*General pinned points:* *Regarding people testifying of extremely quick successes* Several of you report doing this fight in few turns. When doing so please specify whether you are actually referring to the (2nd) *Special* Elder's Lair, not the first Elder's Lair. This video was taken on the 2nd one which has higher level enemies. If you're wondering why you can complete it quicker with your LV 60 monsties than I did with a LV 80 one, this is probably why. For reference, at 0:03 in the bottom-right you can see it says "S. The fight remained consistent for me but if you're getting some difference in move patterns it could be that there are other factors at play such as the amount of damage you're doing compared to this demonstration, or something like that. I would assume quicker damage progress = quicker fight development and slower damage progress = slower fight development, so you may have more/less Tail Stings etc to deal with based on that. That's my theory, it could be something else. If this is the case for you, simply use the video as a gauge, compare it to behaviour in your own experience, and adapt your attack patterns accordingly. If, for instance, it moves onto Hyperfreeze quicker for you, I would assume according to that theory that it'd do so frequently enough so it should be easy to adjust. So far the main issues that have come to my attention are: 1) After Freezing Frost Mantle will it do Tech/Power/Tech/Power or Tech/Tech/Power/Power? The note simply states that it alternates so the first should work most of the time, but even that's apparently not guaranteed, it could start with Power. Worst case scenario just restart the fight with better RNG. 2) Knowing when it will shift from Tail Sting to Hyperfreeze or Freezing Frost Mantle. As far as I know it will always do Hyperfreeze before Freezing Frost Mantle though. 4) Some people say Reverto isn't good. He plainly did fine in this video but if you have issues consider Kyle or Cheval instead. So see this video as an overview of Velkhana's norm to guide you, but be prepared to improvise and possibly take more than 1 attempt.
How do I beat normal Velkhana like from the one in Lilia's quest line? It doesn't use this pattern at all. It starts with speed then goes tech when it applies ice armor then power when flying. After flying the initial time it stops using fly for the rest of the fight. It then seems to apply a better version of the ice armor (still uses tech). The problem I'm having is the frostbite it applies when it does the super armor. It does tech once which I can easily double attack. But after it uses two tech attacks so I can either block one and take the other hit and get frostbite or I can have my monster and me dodge. The problem is after using tech for two turns she does nothing but spam the non typed moves that both apply frostbite and ice blast (because that's a thing now 🙄). I eventually just run out of kinship trying to dodge the attacks and because they aren't typed I can't hth or double attack. The frostbite is blatantly op. There's no way to consistently stop it and once you yet it your forced to use a hot mist since you can literally do nothing (not even heal) until you get rid of it. So basically if you get frostbite and the attack drives you to low heal you have no choice but to lose your heart. This fight isn't just challenging it's blatantly fair. I feel like I'm going to be force into using the skill that negates frostbite in order to win but there has to be another way than that.
Nevermind, just beat her. So apparently breaking her wings instead of flash bombing her kept her from going into super ice armor state, at least the first cycle, and she actually flew a second time for once. I broke them a second time only this time she still went into the super armor state only she was already too weak so I could kill her before she stated spamming her non typed moves. Pretty annoying fight ngl.
With the notes, I defeated Velkhana with surprising ease. I did lose two Hearts from Tail Sting (which dealt over 700 damage!), but I don't think I even saw Freezing Fog. As for Reverto, I've been using him almost exclusively. The only time I switched him out in the Elder's Lair was for the first two trials in Z7, where Kyle helps far more due to having a Water-elemental Bow.
@JanusHoW don't know why when I attempted to do this fight I took down velkhana down in turn ten or eleven , I find it weird as I used lv1 Rathiana greatsword and elderfrost lv1 armorial, it's probably because it's the 1st run of elders lair , I was lv 59

Just a question, as I am struggling at exactly this abbilde against the Elder den Velkhana, but why didn’t you used your monster riding ability earlier, as it was already charged at maximum like through multiple rounds
I don't generally comment on battle decisions made ages ago in a game I've not touched in years. My recall is really bad for that sort of thing. I had a reason probably though my goal with the video was just seeing people through it, not necessarily perfect optimization.

Sorry, I don't recall a notification for this comment so the reply is very late and I'm sure you've beaten it by now. But yeah, the video alludes to this being strictly an Elder's Lair method. Outside of that environment it fights differently. Refer to this cheat sheet: imgur.com/a/YhCnhio
Ok wow on I'm the S elders lair and this fight is so different after the 1st speed speed tech. Velkhana uses hyperfreeze and then just takes a whole new tactic then your fight I can never guess what moves shes about to use
My own experience and general feedback to date suggests that this fight can be assumed verbatim in most cases but there seem to be some variables such as RNG and personal situation which can affect it. I've even seen some cases where Velkhana flat out seems to violate the notes. Sometimes you just get bad RNG in which case just reload the fight. How levelled you are etc may also affect how soon Velkhana moves on from Tail Sting though I assume that's more noticeable in the first fight where you're more likely to be overlevelled. More details in the pinned comment but I still believe my version of this fight serves as a good general battle overview. You just may or may not need to adapt it a bit to your situation. I'm still interested in people's problems with this as there's always more data that comes to light after creating the video and I like to at least cover the variables in the pinned comment.
@@KingX Thanks for the quick response. I had to go to work but when I get home I'm going to fight her again and try to document what moves she does and post it here. When she uses the frost mantle what is the best way to take it down?
The turn it casts that is your window to do what you need to do. If you need to heal, that's the time. From there it SHOULD start with Tech (though I think I've seen it start with Power on the rare occasion and I've had the odd report of that, if so I take that as a bad omen and reboot). So you'd do a Power Attack, make sure someone damages the shield, THEN do the Kinship attack. The reason you wait until then is Kinship is not guaranteed to 1-hit finish it and you can prematurely cause Velkhana to nuke you. The note that indicates it will definitely do such a number of attacks first is misinformation in that sense though I don't know whether it's just a translation issue.
Your sentence needs rephrasing but if it's an "I did it in less turns" gloat that's been mentioned by multiple people before who don't realise I'm fighting the 2ND Velkhana in the Special Elder's Lair. The one in the first Elder's Lair is lower level.
@@KingX no because I actually fartable, and any game because my cousin Jacob actually stores world iceborn and has always been so cool at it and I am now happy cuz I voted and I actually lost about 10 times and I'm actually going to have beat it with your help and if I ask so you know how exactly red mentions how he found a monster in this how to keep volcano in that spot because another dragon and don't understand it's like if I wish I leave
I doubt it. Are you fighting a raid Velkhana? That's completely different and I linked to a cheat sheet on that. Den Velkhana does have some variations but supposedly it's restricted to the in-game notes given.
What level should I be before taking her on? I know gear and setup are more important (working on my gear/monsties as we speak). But I'll level up more if necessary. My team just hit level 60.
If it's your first Elder's Lair you can do it at lower level than I do here. 60's probably fine. If you're on the second you'll want to be around my levels.
Apparently this is a completely normal mechanic. The damage from that doesn't go below 1 HP so you can do the whole fight like that as long as you don't make a mistake. The only way to do it damage-free is to use Double Attacks. Personally I think it's stupid that the Head-to-Head winner suffers more damage than the Head-to-Head loser unless it's the monster winning.
I don't recall ever seeing it do Hyperfreeze that early and I've done this fight many times on both lairs. Which Elder's Lair are you on? The notes do imply that order is a bit interchangeable but it shouldn't be doing Hyperfreeze without some sort of indication so I would assume if you're on the 1st lair and over-levelled, higher damage would bring it forward and the opposite would be the case for the reverse. If that's the case it should follow the same pattern so just adapt to it.
@@KingX the first elder's lair, the fight played out exactly like you showed the first time i tryed it until i screwed up and failed. then after that when i tryed again it started using hyperfreeze instead of tail sting. i figured out it was still following the patterns it does after it uses the hyperfreeze so i just ajusted my strategy and beet it that way.
@@Nijonibi Interesting, I've made a pinned comment to account for that. Though I did a lot of testing I only did it with one setup so it's useful getting feedback.
It should say that in the shop as long as you've seen the material before. Generally those weapons require + materials though so you have to get them from high rank enemies. HR Mizutsune can be found in Elder's Lair zone 1 for instance.
That shouldn't really matter. You'd sustain damage from the Head-to-Heads but that wouldn't go below 1HP so as long as you don't make mistakes you should be fine. But you're not denied a buddy so you might as well use one and finish a bit quicker.
@@KingX My monsties aren't setup for getting consistent HtH's is the problem. I was trying to run a team with all the monstie skills- but that turns out to be a lot of red. Regardless, just having another person there for the potential HtH solved the problem for me.
Oh yeah, my monstie skills team took considerable planning and resource checking now that you mention it. Admittedly I didn't attempt this solo simply because I already knew an extra sword hand would help in this fight, but the theory's sound. Typically someone who willfully does this fight solo is someone after the challenge. There's a reason they let you buddy pick post-game so you can have the best weapon support per situation - though unfortunately only the final 3 seem to be very popular, I think the balance is a bit weak in that regard. Anyway I'm glad you figured out your problem.
@@KingX Yeah, I wasn't doing it to be 'hardcore' I'd just gotten rid of the companion because they mess up certain quests that require finesse. After completing some of those I decided to try to progress in the Elder section again and noticed I didn't have anyone with me a little too late. Usually it's not a bad thing, but even guarding while the Velkhana is doing his non-targeted attack is either almost dead, or completely dead and if you don't have a monstie with Kinship ready it's very tough to whittle down his fog armour - which is often the case if they keep leaving you hanging with skills that won't HtH. It does feel nice though, not having the extra character around because you have more control of the battlefield, and don't have to get frustrated when the enemy targets your companion for 5 out of the max 10 turns you're allowed.
@@KingX the issue for me is that i always tend to survive tough fights by healing but if i heal in this one i die next turn fotr not choosing a corect head to head option by wasting turn to make my party survive
80. Displayed at 9:45. Though levels aren't the issue in this fight, following Velkhana's attack schedule is. Velkhana was completely able to 1-shot my LV 80 team for mistakes. The reason why I was at 80 is because 80 is the requirement to quick-finish mobs in the previous zone and I was taking notes for my subsequent levelling up guide.
(Well I got to 90 on the next floor...) Here's my EXP plan: ua-cam.com/video/9gVFmPVgRR4/v-deo.html&pp=sAQA Also check the pinned comment there as I had more info after making the video.
Thanks, I respect everyone who's tried to cover this battle. It's not an easy battle to sum up simply. If my approach was successful it's probably because I suffered more. It's harder to relate to strugglers when you yourself sail through it, no matter how good a gamer/video creator you are or how eloquent you are.
@@KingX Dude no one even tries to put info, they literally just record the fight and call it a guide, you actually put text up explaining what you are doing, seriously just go look at some of the other "guides" you will see how you are the only actual guide i found
I only saw one before I put this one up. It showed the notes (not in order) and was a bit hard to follow which is what compelled me to make this one. I've not checked any of the subsequent ones.
i didnt start having bigger problems until she got the ice fog on herself, i would get one of two attacks wrong and lose the entire battle since she one shots everything... i may retry after seeing this, hopefully dont get screwed by the fog phase again she didnt use the ultimate move, i missed the HtH as one of the times she did two tech and then two power and then the second time she got the fog she did one power then one tech, i swear i got cheaped out on by RNG and i closed the game tired of instant kills and impossible recovery (i dont have a lot of patience for repeated instant kills in games...)
Yes, it turns out that the Head-to-Head damage was completely normal. This is my first Monster Hunter game and at 120 hours in I had no idea. I hadn't really noticed the feature because I'd been doing Double Attacks most of the time. So my run is perfect after all and the damage can't go lower than 1 HP. In a way it seems weird writing a guide for which the game already gives you some notes, but it can be tricky putting all the notes together and I think at least one of them has an error or is poorly written. So hopefully seeing the notes in action should be helpful. I'd already seen someone else do one of these but I was still struggling so felt another take was needed, one that would have helped "me" at the time. This fight is designed to be done a certain precise way and any deviations are punished severely.
@@KingX yeah, only problem was some RNG during her fog phase that i mentioned, if she randomly does either 1 tech/ 1 power or 2 tech/ 2 power i automatically have the outcome determined by RNG when she gets the ice fog.. hopefully its just rare so i can manage it next time, fog already screwed me twice with this and yes, putting the notes together was tougher than knowing what it was talking about, also why ive already died a heckton of times. if this is just halfway through im dreading how broken fatalis might be... hopefully just long and not that bad since i have lv 3 bloodbath armor
Fatalis... It depends if you bring Ancient Potions. If you do you'll be fine, if you don't - well I gather that fight makes some people's hands shake. I did it ok and my video is already up of that (1st Elder's Lair). I am wondering how the Special Elder's Lair one will go but I'm LV 90 with LV 5 gear so I'd say I'm quite well prepared. There is one move in particular that you want to be blocking with kinship attacks. As for Velkhana, I was sure the odd time that Velkhana itself deviated from its notes, and that's what's going to throw people. This shows what Velkhana "should" do. For that particular issue, both examples you gave start with Tech so try and have kinship ready for after that 1st Tech attack, whether that means adding more kinship to your build or whatever.
@@KingX ok, i dont mind having to use ancient potions as long as the game gives me an actual chance to so im ok with that. idk if he still has the 1 HP panic move which might be very bad since you cant see the health bar gonna retry velkhana, im gonna be sitting on fatalis for a while if i reach him just because i heard you only get 2 shots at making his gear and special lair might be a bit over my head even on the earlier levels, i wont take the completion until he drops enough parts for forging the armor since its likely a long wait for now to get more chances at it
That's what I heard, you can only fight Fatalis twice and the second time is nuts. Make it count by using battle loot charm/prayer. I "should" reach Fatalis 2 today as I have no initial videos I think I need to do before that. Video creation and perfect monstie building really add to the hours...
I lost the first time I did this and saw this video. Then wondered why the heck the next time I won faster than this video as you’re level 80 and I’m level 60. Forgot I had Ratha and decked myself out with fire weapons lol 😂
To clarify; there are *two* Elder's Lairs. After you complete Elder's Lair you talk to the elder again in the same place and he opens a second one. It looks identical but the enemies have higher levels. This video is taken on the 2nd Elder's Lair which has a harder Velkhana. If you're on the first then yes you're going to be able to beat Velkhana at lower levels in less turns. At 0:03 in this video my location shows as "S. Elder's Lair - Z5". If yours just shows as "Elder's Lair - Z5" (without the "S.") then you're on the first lair and that's why you can complete the fight in less turns.
Every single time I've attempted this c***t she does tail sting followed by double tech then when I watch that she's about to do hyper freeze combo my partner who's Kyle will do his Ultimate which obviously cancels hyper freeze but instead of doing two speeds she does tail sting instead so I expect two techs but instead she does hyper freeze instead she cheats on what should be a scripted fight

@@KingX Yeah I've beaten it by now but thanks for replying nonetheless.
Hey I don't know this is significant or not but I'd be feel kind of within 16 rounds so is that like significant or no
Your sentence needs rephrasing but if it's an "I did it in less turns" gloat that's been mentioned by multiple people before who don't realise I'm fighting the 2ND Velkhana in the Special Elder's Lair.
This helped me sooooo much tsym!!
Thank you so much
Dope.!! Thanks so much
Apparently they changed it because I tried to follow what you said and it doesn't do exactly as you said.
I did it at level 48 while following this guide and did it no problem
At first I couldn’t beat it but I’ve gotten everyone’s level to late 50s and early 60s and now I’m about to kill on 11 turn
This is weird the one am fighting when I do head to head with it I always seem to get damaged for some weird reason
You literally saved me!!!!!❤
Nice video!
why is mine using hyperfreeze when you say tail sting?
What level do you have to be so you don't die in one hit? I'm currently level 65
It depends whether you're on Elder's Lair or Special Elder's Lair. If that's happening on the former, your levels are not the problem.
@@KingX I'm on the regular elders lair. I didn't know there was a special elders lair
Thank you!
He one shots me but dies at the 12th turn did i something wrong?
If it dies at the 12th turn you did something right?
@@KingX i was just shocked that he died so fast while he could one shot me anytime, if i even do one mistake😂
I follow the vide but my Velkhana doesn't do it like this... 🥶
What for Material i need for the weapons?
It should say that in the shop as long as you've seen the material before. Generally those weapons require + materials though so you have to get them from high rank enemies. HR Mizutsune can be found in Elder's Lair zone 1 for instance.
How did u start the fight without freezing
The same way you do it the rest of the game really. Velkhana can undo the protection as many times as it wants though if you make mistakes.
I would of never thought of the absolute evasion for the tail attack. Beat it first try using ur strat
Ah, my problem was I was doing it solo - I'd forgotten about having a partner.
In short this must be perfect fight no damage
is this elder lair or secret elder lair velkhana?
Special Elder's Lair. It's displayed in-game at 0:03 in the bottom-right and in my text above it.
what lvl were you?
@@KingX thanks for telling me, but also HOW DID YOU GET SO HIGH LVL
(Well I got to 90 on the next floor...) Here's my EXP plan: ua-cam.com/video/9gVFmPVgRR4/v-deo.html&pp=sAQA Also check the pinned comment there as I had more info after making the video.
The only good guide on all of YT, all the others "guides" are just people playing the battle, no info
@@KingX I watched 4 others before i saw yours, again thank you for for your effort, i finished it at turn 10 thanks to you
i didnt start having bigger problems until she got the ice fog on herself, i would get one of two attacks wrong and lose the entire battle since she one shots everything... i may retry after seeing this, hopefully dont get screwed by the fog phase again
she didnt use the ultimate move, i missed the HtH as one of the times she did two tech and then two power and then the second time she got the fog she did one power then one tech, i swear i got cheaped out on by RNG and i closed the game tired of instant kills and impossible recovery (i dont have a lot of patience for repeated instant kills in games...)
@@KingX yeah, only problem was some RNG during her fog phase that i mentioned, if she randomly does either 1 tech/ 1 power or 2 tech/ 2 power i automatically have the outcome determined by RNG when she gets the ice fog.. hopefully its just rare so i can manage it next time, fog already screwed me twice with this
and yes, putting the notes together was tougher than knowing what it was talking about, also why ive already died a heckton of times. if this is just halfway through im dreading how broken fatalis might be... hopefully just long and not that bad since i have lv 3 bloodbath armor
@@KingX ok, i dont mind having to use ancient potions as long as the game gives me an actual chance to so im ok with that. idk if he still has the 1 HP panic move which might be very bad since you cant see the health bar
gonna retry velkhana, im gonna be sitting on fatalis for a while if i reach him just because i heard you only get 2 shots at making his gear and special lair might be a bit over my head even on the earlier levels, i wont take the completion until he drops enough parts for forging the armor since its likely a long wait for now to get more chances at it
That's what I heard, you can only fight Fatalis twice and the second time is nuts.
Were you on the Special lair?
@@KingX I think so
To clarify; there are *two* Elder's Lairs.
Every time I hit him I go to 1 hp
Every time I hit straight dead. Any idea how to remain 1 hp build?
Best tipp just get yourselve the new glavenus make him genes and than it will be easy xD i got him on 5 round i think xD
Handy new info. There was no "new Glavenus" when I made the video so I welcome updates.
@@KingX just kidding your video helps a lost man :D
Every single time I've attempted this c***t she does tail sting followed by double tech then when I watch that she's about to do hyper freeze combo my partner who's Kyle will do his Ultimate which obviously cancels hyper freeze but instead of doing two speeds she does tail sting instead so I expect two techs but instead she does hyper freeze instead she cheats on what should be a scripted fight
If I could give this video 100 likes I would
I only need 12 rounds at lv 54 🤣
You're one of several who've reported this and I'm glad it went well. That sounds like the 1st Elder's Lair though.
