Hi, it's David Paul Meyer, director of the Daily Show. I just wanted to say that it was a real thrill getting to direct this performance. I remember watching Vampire Weekend in 2008 perform M79 on SNL, and how I became an instant fan. Now, I play VW's music for my kids, and they love it too. That's what's so special about great music. So yeah, this was a dream gig. I also want to say that this would not be possible without the remarkable efforts by staff and crew at The Daily Show who go above and beyond every single day to create these special moments. It's an honor to get to work with such talented people. I know the internet is not a great place for being earnest and heartfelt, but figured I'd put this out there anyways.
incredible production, you guys did great work. sounds great, and seeing everyone just getting so into the performance, really just a rare treat all around
@@sHART1780 im glad you like it to each their own i didnt like it. but i gotta say the fact that vampire weekend has an album for everyone just makes them so much more special i love that about them. i might not like it but so many people do which just proves their diversity.
I’m baffled as to how someone could create a song like this. From an idea to the completed tune it’s just amazing. Also, I didn’t think they would be able to recreate it live - I was wrong.
Vampire Weekend sounds simultaneously fresh and nostalgic, even after nearly 2 decades. Their songs make me feel like I'm reading a classy book under the shade of a tree on some new Ivy campus on a cool day in late spring. Sweaters, lemonades, tennis, youth.
Second time watching this and I just noticed that is Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion) sitting down in the back playing the sitar! I knew they were friends, but it's crazy seeing him back there!
There is a very specific feeling to reading these comments and realizing.. all vampire weekend fans feel the same exact way about them. We’re all living our life, evolving, through the soundtrack of this band… life has a funny way of connecting us threw invisible ties.
I agree. It's almost like a secret club. I know better than to get too revved up over them with friends and family with no real understanding. But for those who recognize their magic....few words are necessary. And being in an arena surrounded by all the likeminded people for their live performances is truly unforgettable.
I don’t know this group but I saw them on Jimmy Kimmel and I thought that this particular rendition of the song was an absolute masterpiece!! I saw the video and it doesn’t compare to the performance on Kimmel. I am African American so when I play this song I get that strange look lol but Excellent music is Excellent music and the visual added much to it. I think that they should re release this version instead of the current video.
Probably best I wasn’t in the audience to view this in person, I almost fainted when the choir started. I’m not leaving til I hear Mary Boone when I see them live in Indy. This is one of their strongest releases in a while
@@DeesBees85 did you read the original comment? Thanks to you tube I have access to the music of my youth, and have zero interest in most anything post 1980;) I’ve been waiting 43 years for something new, not just more RnR or pop. @@DeesBees85 this is untrue - what you have stated is not indicative of no AutoTune. they just get better with age. they've given us incredible albums for over the past decade. truly incredible musicians. this performance gave me chills
Seeing them with my two teenaged daughters in Vancouver, BC mid June at outdoor concert. So stoked. Been a top 5 for me since my introduction to them with contra.
Music is the oldest form of black magic known to the species, capable of causing actual physiological reactions in vast groups of human beings, even against their will. For example: If ever captured by cannibals in Borneo, play Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and they will somehow all know the words and start dancing.
Music's specially quality is its capacity to move us...this happened to me after hearing VW on the Daily Show playing "Mary Boone." What an outstanding tune, the melody and the chorus...simply moving. I can't stop listening...loudly!!! Thanks VW
Saw them on this tour recently , they played A-Punk. Right after someone on the floor yelled play A-Punk. Ezra says , we just played it , get off your phone. Then said ok then , band was caught off guard but second rendition blew the roof off
This is an amazing song and The guys are my favorite band ever theirs songs are incredible their knowledge of music I can’t wait to see them live in Dublin well done Ezra! 😊

Wholeheartedly agree :)
Aw nice! A little corner of the comments section that are My People 🥰
Gotta love lies.
I think that was actually Ezra’s intention! He says every four years is like a new stage: high school, college, etc.
One of greatest examples of a band getting better as the time goes on. One of the best of my generation. They haven't missed yet.

Autotune
