San Diegan born and raised. Had a home there, with an ocean view! Sold it and moved away. Too difficult to move around the city. No parking. Still, the best place to live in the country though and I have lived all over the country. I’ve been to nearly all the cities on this list and San Diego is by far the best.

@ModernMoneyHabits NYC is no bargain, today! Rents are through the stratosphere like everywhere else, even more so! Used to pay 90 dollars a month for a one bedroom/one bathroom apt. on the trendy classy upper East Side in an old brownstone apt building, today that same apt goes for over $2000 -3000 dollars a month! Lived there for a couple of years in the early 1970s when I worked as a fashion illustrator until my apt got ransacked and robbed, terrifying experience, other than that, the city is beautiful esp gorgeous Central Park, lots of history, great architecture, the arts , more beautiful today than it was when I lived there, but you pay for that beauty, big time!

I really feel blessed to live in Marin County, CA. I've been here for about 13 years now, and feel so fortunate. Novato is a nice town; the whole county is so magnificent. It was expensive back in the late 1980's, too...Salem was a short drive away, as well. I was able to do it because I was teaching at a boarding school, so my room and board was subsidized or free. Spain is only for a vacation.. When you have enough money, the whole society's efficiency is more important that they have the ability to process things quickly. While Spain just can't.
