Located in Henderson, NC, Chestnut street court has a rich history and was built decades ago which used to be the location of a tobacco barn. Henderson is a poor community and is a tier 1 city which means it's eligible for the most funding possible from the government. Across the street from the court is a church which used to be a safe house for the black panther party and a block away used to be a location mentioned in the historic green book. The green book was published from 1936-1966 to help traveling African Americans know which establishments in southern cities were welcoming to African Americans. A few times a week 2 homeless gentlemen come to the court and help pick up trash as this court means so much to so many people. Chestnut street court is a place where folks within the community can come together to collaborate, have conversation, play basketball and enjoy life. Revitalizing chestnut street court would breathe life into this community and show that folks really care. We thank you for your time and consideration!
