No they loved him like bill mahars audience does… because they are idiots. They clap and laugh when he’s done speaking because they have no brain to reflect on what was said or why.
There will never be anyone like him. So original. Such a unique and rebellious outlook and spirit, while still maintaining a feeling of innocence. He played it perfectly.
@gargantuaism not true. I understand what you're saying. But genius is always entertaining (for me). Just experiencing his nonsense would continue to be again for me. 😀
Andy Kaufman has be dead 40 years now and I miss him, he was and still is one of the funniest men I have ever seen and still makes me laugh to this day. What a gift. Thanks for the ride funnyman. T.
I love how he wants an apology from Lawler, saying he was just playing the role of a bad guy wrestler, as he plays the role of someone who wants an apology from Lawler.
Andy was the original "troll". He was a master that very few people understood. Just like Bill Hicks (different style) when Letterman cut his act for nothing. Both were ahead of their time
I still watch his videos whenever I go through bad times...the bad times go away very quickly absolutely genius!!! They will never be another like him!!!🤔😥
I guess the ultimate art of being a "Troll" is to never be outed as being one. I discovered Andy Kaufman after watching "Nathan For You" which I think takes it to the next level, because the "platform" isn't a slot chat show but a while series (or 4 currently) in it's own right. Long may skillful trolling like these continue!
His three adopted sons...I'd never seen that before.... what a genius... that couldn't have been funnier if he'd written it.... I love that they're cracking up during the bit..
Real communication with the audience. Jerry " doing it for the publicity " talking about himself. Which is funny. Andy is excitement. Pure originality. True joyous WTF was that 24/7.
I love the look he gives the audience when they laugh at the idea of him having a good time with himself.... he's a great comedian without except he doesn't have any jokes.
Andys career kinda feels like one of those stories where someone makes a deal with the devil and asks the devil to make him funny. And he ended trapped in a world where no matter what he did everyone thought it was a joke. Like what if all his rude characters and getting into fights and his akward bits was him trying as hard as he could to not be funny and end his career but the devils magic just made it all seem like a joke to us.
I see it more like a comedic genius who kept pushing the envelope of humor. Like there's a scale of on one side being the easiest, most comfortable, and saving face or having your ego feel good about itself(?) and Andy took it to the other end of the scale, which is amazing to watch, because you have to be so fearless... it's an act of artful brilliance.
I'm reading the Bob Zmouda book. The idea of Tony, a kind of totally sociopathic offensive guy, came from Bob's stories of working for Hollywood screenwriter Norman Wexler@@vampoftrance

The Original Lawler incident was so we'll done...no wonder why everyone thought it was real as did I as kid in the early 90s I was like whoa... couldn't believe that happened on live t.v. very similar to the will smith thing recently. STILL shock's people unlike anything else whenever the unexpected happens on live t.v.
I was a kid in the 80s so I liked wrestling up until about 85-86 when I turned 12 but I remember this also and thought it was real they did such a damn good job and it's really cool to see Lawler's interview about it how nice he actually is in real life is cool
@@saturnociris2724 lol, your you're same age as my eldest brother. Yeah they sold it pretty good if people thought it was legit decade's later. Lawler looked way bigger back than than he did later in the 90s early 2000s...
This guy is a must for all modern comedians. Especially right now. Someone who was never funny... ever. Never articulate. And never seem to know where he was. But that was his thing. People would laugh and laugh.. not really knowing why. But that was their thing too.
I highly recommend you look into a man named William Montgomery. You might not like him, it takes a minute, but the guy was and still is a genius as a comedian.
14:30 Lol he almost breaks character for a sec during this guys gold performance. It'd be nice to go back to a time when people could still realize this was just some silly shtick and appreciate it for what it was. They clearly know he's doing a silly character.
Andy said himself that he was a "song and dance" man. A lot of people say he wasn't funny and he would probably agree with you that he wasn't a comedian
Jim Carrey was obsessed with Andy Kaufman. It’s obvious that his idea to have 3 African American children in Me, Myself, and Irene was inspired by this bit Andy did with his “adopted children”.
That was horrible when Andy got socked with a neck brace on and everything. I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ if Andy Kaufman did sue him but he should’ve. It’s so sad that Andy died so young, so good to his parents, hugged so many people and loved them all. Bob Saget recycled a lot of what Andy Kaufman did, including the funny eyes and stuff.
The whole thing was planned. He and Lawler were friends. I'm sure his neck did hurt after the piledriver but the neck brace was not necessary. He told Lawler to slap him for real on the show.
His goal was to make you feel uncomfortable and he was very good at it. That was his schtick. It was a fall-back position because he couldn’t actually be funny.
People hated him with a passion back then, not understanding that it was all an act. Others like myself got it, seeing this madman pull his little pranks on people and on national TV. I am a die hard fan and may be the only one to believe this but I truly believe Andy never died. It was his final stunt before retiring. That he pulled the ultimate Elvis impersonation in faking his death. Remember many people think Elvis faked his death. Sadly if he did, Andy can never come back because it would destroy his genius. I believe he said what needed to be said, made his mark on the world and is now living a normal life outside the spotlight. If you look deeper in more recent supposed Andy Kaufman incidents about him I think Andy may have been involved. I think he is giving weird clues he is alive and for a strange reason I also believe that in the movie Man on the Moon Andy played Tony Clifton at the end.
The reason people love him is because of the courage he had to be awkward and bomb on purpose, that was the joke. He was the ultimate troll.
No they loved him like bill mahars audience does… because they are idiots. They clap and laugh when he’s done speaking because they have no brain to reflect on what was said or why.
That’s not it though
@@oblivionzzzmike well thought out.

Theres an indian standup comedian named Naman Arora. You can search him on UA-cam but idk if you can find a translated version.
Tim Heidecker does the awkward thing pretty well.
Andy Kaufman has be dead 40 years now and I miss him, he was and still is one of the funniest men I have ever seen and still makes me laugh to this day. What a gift. Thanks for the ride funnyman. T.
4:40 the almost indignant delivery of that line 😅
- 'Did you write that?'
- _'No, I found it in a joke book'_
I love how he wants an apology from Lawler, saying he was just playing the role of a bad guy wrestler, as he plays the role of someone who wants an apology from Lawler.

Absurdity is a type of humor that only few people understand. It is rare to find this type of comedy at any time. Only few people really "get it"
Grandma? I love you......I love you too. That was a very nice moment. I love Andy

His three adopted sons...I'd never seen that before.... what a genius... that couldn't have been funnier if he'd written it.... I love that they're cracking up during the bit..
I think that was shortly before his death.
The actors playing his kids, fabulous!
Absolutely, and I think they were ad-libbing because the 'Pop, you did Elvis' nearly broke Andy....
this guys better than Marcel Duchamp, he should be in art galleries and museums, superb performing artist.
He was excellent as Latka. What a good comedian.
Latka was played by Bob Zmuda, not Andy.
whoever made this is awesome. thanks!
Real communication with the audience. Jerry " doing it for the publicity " talking about himself. Which is funny. Andy is excitement. Pure originality. True joyous WTF was that 24/7.
I swear when one of his 'sons' says 'pop you did Elvis' Andy broke character and laughed.
Jerry Lawler was the perfect character to go against Andy.
I love the look he gives the audience when they laugh at the idea of him having a good time with himself.... he's a great comedian without except he doesn't have any jokes.

I think Andy actually did adopt these folks
Very funny and original man! Thank you for this video! BR.

For me, the highlight of this vid is watching him and Freddie Blassie 🙏
Instant chemistry
I know. Freddie Blassie waving his cane telling him to sing and the look on his face had me laughing to the point of tearing up. 🤣

Beloved by aging obese accountants and dentists?

yes
Andy Kaufman was the last comedic genius. Comedy died with him.
Oh, go lay an egg!
The original before Erica

He was over 30 years in the future!
This was when Dave was at his coolest putting on unique talent like Andy and Pee Wee Herman!
I'm sure Kaufman and Lawler spawned the Jerry Springer Show!!.
The original “it’s a prank bro”
Listen to the laugh @ 13:29 😂
Perfect!
