- Today I tried getting the Not One Step Back Achievement for Hearts of Iron 4 HOI4 No Step Back expansion. I'll try and lead Russia to victory by getting one of the hardest achievements in the game!

The reason why tanks didn't reinforce first was because the order of reinforcement has been changed to random. As I understand it, divisions with higher initiative will now not only reinforce faster but are more likely to reinforce than others now.

I played with unhistorical focuses on and because the German Kaiserreich and the Allies had a revival of WWI (trench warfare with no breakthroughs) and democratic Japan wasn't able to win the civil war I got this achievement basically for free because nobody declared war on me until 1945.

tbf, it kinda is... I got this achievemnt completly by accident when i did my /second/ attempt at playing russia. My first attempt didn't go so wel, so i tought "okay, lvl 3 forts don't even buy me enough time to get a more proper defensive lien up further back, so i'l just build lvl 5 forts" then i ended up managing to build lvl7 forts on the entire frontline adn teh germans didn't even try to push when Barbarossa started... So i just sat there for a couple years, building up my military industry...

Offense is the best defense! just get Poland before Germany does when they are weak yet and get your fleet up in the black sea and the baltic, shit ton of AA and after then just be AFK. If they have too many mediums, AT infantry is the way to go :)

Thats what always happens to me. Im terrible at encircling. I always over extend the front line and end up losing 5-10 divisions. Never lost an entire army groups worth of tank divisions tho lol

Not a Step Back achievement? That was easy for me. Go historical and build a massive Maginot Line. German AI won’t dare to attack you
Its even easier if you just play historical and attack poland then Germany asap. Your starting army will be able to push through the small german starting army if you rush.
They do though. At least in some games.
just did race for Germany achievement, rolled over Axis in 10 months without any allied help and relaxed for the rest 3 years to get this one. Germany just cant do anything if you prepare a proper army and no need for the forts. You can even go fully aggressive battleplan after initial 1-2 month and still get achievment for less than 1 mil men lost.

Guard your ports and coastlines. I hold the germans so well but lost one tile near the ports and i lost the achievement :(
When you lost that tile to the Germans i litterally got an warpath ad saying
“In 1941 a KV2 Heavy tank defending a bridge managed to defend the bridge destroying a fleet of 300 german tanks”

How did they win the war then?
The german tanks were going too fast and the soldier's corpses were speedbumps for them so they crashed. (My comment is sarcastic).

Just fyi, the achievement only fails when you lose a state. Not a tile. As long as you don’t lose a core victory point you’re good (defend against the fucking Italian northern naval invasions, oh my god).

I cant remember the details when it comes to allies but i loved when the enemy allies iran somehow and i need to rush down there to block them from getting any states. And also the lag after 43 was so painful
The game is virtually unplayable with the lag after 1943...
Hour in game at 5 speed takes 5-10 seconds.

I'm planning on trying this soon and I currently feel like rushing flame support tanks would be the best. Give infantry insane armor and soft attack. Let germany break themselves and walk into Germany. Taking Poland early would be a big help as well to create a buffer and deny Germany Poland.
btw, you can lose provinces, just not control of the state. lost like 7 different provinces, but no states and still got it

The key is doing superior firepower and grinding one of your level 3 infantry leader generals like vatutin or meretskov to be an infantry specialist advisor.

Light tanks worked in my Germany game but thats because I took out Britan and France right away.
If you do the air war as Russia: there are focuses you can take that modify your airforce and give ridiculous good bonuses
Or, alternatively, you could ignore the air force, build lots of light tanks, and lose all of them in a single encirclement

Damn, I really should've played my USSR game in Ironman. Would've gotten that achievement.
The Axis managed to make it one state into Poland, which is to say non-core territory, and no further. Not even because they pushed me back, I pretty much let them have that state.
Ended the war in 1943 after the Germans grinded on my border for a while.
Alex personally directing a giant blunder and proceeding to blame his general is a very Soviet move if I've ever seen one

i once accidentaly did this by geting over 100 infantry divisions whit every slot filled 4 Artilary 2 rocket artilary and 4 anti tank the rest infatry supported by a massive airforce the germans stood no chance

me over here just chad af making 40 widths and scrolling through reddit and checking in every now and then to do focuses, research and production and construction.
It was pretty easy since after their initial push, which failed to take a single state, although they got close to Minsk ( i didnt take eastern poland ), so I just held doing the thing above, pretty much afk, then got some 10 Medium Tanks, the good kind, and encircled them between Estonia and Lithuania in Northern Eastern Poland, and I also got We dont really like statistics, 2 in 1 yay

I used the Shinra Tensei from TommyKay's video ( found it on the Tommy Japan vs Impossible AI China one ) It had like 650 Defense and up to 800 when you research the tech ahead nd all.
The German army could NOT penetrate the divisions, HOWEVER the German Armor was infact able to break through, probably because these do not have the best Hard Attack, I have not confirmed if this information is correct, im just relying on the things I saw happen, The Tanks are the ones that can break through, especially the Medium Tanks.
A counter to this may be in the form of :
> CAS
> Mechanized Infantry
> Light Tanks meant for defense
> Medium Tanks
> Encircle where you can
At the start you can't really produce all the equipment needed so you can just like all the tank divisions into a single army and then distribute them in defensive lines just behind various parts of the front and then call upon them if a tile starts breaking.
Try to encircle them as a base necessity yes.
If you just keep their Armor in check you can do this extremely easily.
Got on my first iron man no step back , No more Partitions. Don’t know how hard it is, but basically just used mechanised with rockets soon as I could afford it

I did this a few days ago but I never got the achievement… forgot to check Ironman. Got it the next day.

The funny thing is that he could just take the Turkey,Romonia and Czechs, before germans do that. And then you take the Baltic countries including Finland. By that moment you should have 75k guns ammassed at the moment (1940-1941 on Elite). The last step is to deploy sterlykova divisions with anti air guns and some Arty.

Honestly its a pretty easy achievement.
It just needs a few things to happen for it to be basically impossible not to get, looking apart from the fact that you first need to REACH 1945 - a thing basically impossible since dlc release because after 40 it runs on Eoanb speed (before i was easily reaching the 50s)
I was able to achieve this. I uh.... may have cheesed it a bit. I turned off historical AI and let the german empire go monarchist.
Things went off the rails when the allies started declaring wars. This lead to japan allying all of them.... including the now monarchist germany. I was able to make it to June 1943 as the soviets without a war. I was a freaking powerhouse at that point. I did come close to losing 1 province. If they would have taken 1 more VP in that province the run was over. Luckily they were out of supply because chinese mountain ranges.
In the end I capped europe then turned and almost capped china. Then Jan. 1 1945 hit and I got the acheivement. I promptly quit because there was nothing left for me to do.

I got this achievement and I have no idea how. I think I killed a tiny Socialist Republic of Germany in WW3 and it counted. I also got the "don't capture stalingrad" as Germany by annexing a two-state SSSR in Siberia.
The achievments are busted.
This achievment is super easy, you just need to conquer poland ASAP, take just Danzig (Germany looses his focus for it) puppet rest of Poland, take bessarabia through focus, don't bother Finland and Baltic states, leave them alone. And thats it, you just need to deffend Romania border (dont call anybody to war). If you are Lucky, you might even turn Romania communist, so it becomes even easier. You can put some Unist on soviet-japan border, just to be sure. Oh, and i forgot, put some Unist on baltic shoreline, just in case some naval invasions.

The HOI4 wiki has a guide for this achievement that basically amounts to "turn off historical focuses, force Japan and China down historical paths, and hope Germany chooses Oppose Hitler", lmao
an easier way, just build a lvl7 fort line on the front.

I Got the achviment on accident… i was the sssr declared War on poland and germany was just Old germany… the demo one and Then they gaunteed poland ans Then they JOINED ALLIES AND NOW AM OFFED LOL

Uhhh, hard? Well...
Either go no research immediate war, and have a decent chance to win
(Unless a bad purge happens)
Or for guaranteed wins, fortify the German-Soviet border in Poland, also Romania, and watch out for naval invasions, and don’t take all of Finland if you choose to fight them
If you’re fortified well enough, you can just leave, take a nap, and come back to Germany being mushed by the Allies
As for the Baltic’s, that’s an unnecessary border extension, but it could be fun

I got it by accident. Just stopped the Germans in Poland, then didn't trigger the hot Cold War until after Jan 1, 1945.

Light tanks are great from 36-40ish. After that, they get obliterated. By the time Germany invades, theyre a complete waste of time.
Found an easy way to get it. Scorch earth all of the parts of Poland you get. Germans don’t attack because it isn’t a good idea cause of how ai is now smart
