    Not to be picky, but they usually added pemican, venison or fish, whatever they had. Post colonization chicken, pork and goats. Especially in winter.

    Before I became an herbivore, I loved watching and making Chef John's recipes. Your channel and recipes are even better. Delicious recipes from a good relatable cook. The final picture of the stew had me thinking about adding a Serrano chili or two.

    Looks delicious! I am a displaced New Mexican, so I go through a large jar of 505 green chile about every week. Also love red chile...Anyway, there is plenty of squash in the seed end of the butternut squash ~ it's just a little harder to use. But the seeds dry roasted in a pan are delicious, either to munch on or top stews like this one. Oh, and I just wash the squash well and leave the skin on bc it's pretty good for you. But that's when I roast it. I will have to try and see how it works with this delicious looking stew.

    Yes… but the origin of the ingredients is key… that’s why it is working for them in the documentary to boost their longevity… our food industry is processing everything mostly for conversation…. canned beans 😢 full of conservatives, yellow corn coming from US is grown with pesticides… so, it is harder to reach that quality… that’s my take. But I love the recipe… thanks

    Firstly, this video was very good, helpful. Thank you.
    Secondly, you said: "The Native Americans were so healthy before we got here".
    This is only partly true.
    As in Central and South America, the health of the various tribes varied widely, depending on their culture, geography, conflicts, eating habits, farming practices etc.
    Some indigenous people were healthy, but some tribes were hanging on by a thread; impoverished, suffering from malnutrition, and weakened by the impacts of continual tribal warfare, raiding, politics.

      @@w0mblemania yes but when the europeans came to north america it got worse and it was a paradise when they saw it.

    • @w0mblemania
      @w0mblemania 4 роки тому

      @@edmundooliver7584 You have missed the point, presumably because you were trying to make some ideological point. The point is that native North American life wasn't some romantic ideal: it was brutal and tough. Some tribes had it much harder than others. Some thrived, some lived at a subsistence level (or worse).
