Not to be picky, but they usually added pemican, venison or fish, whatever they had. Post colonization chicken, pork and goats. Especially in winter.

I'm here because of the documentary "Live to 100:The Secrets of the Blue Zones" this one culture in Costa Rica ate this daily
Me too homie
I dreamed about three sisters gardening last night ... and here I am watching your lovely video. It looks yummy 😋🤤😋
I honestly think you are so awesome! You upload frequently and your recipes are lovely. keep on going man i hope your channel will grow more, cause your laid back videos deserve more recognition
I made this for my wife and we both loved it. Thank you.
Before I became an herbivore, I loved watching and making Chef John's recipes. Your channel and recipes are even better. Delicious recipes from a good relatable cook. The final picture of the stew had me thinking about adding a Serrano chili or two.
That chopper is magnificent! Bam!
You are so genuine and honest, and I really appreciate that. Reminds me of my home in Alabama.
My daughter and I made this stew and it is absolutely wonderful!!!! Hats off to you for creating these recipes!!🎊🎉👍👍👍
This looks amazing. Great way to get squash in too. I am making this for lunch at work. Can't wait. I love new recipes.
This looks like one of the must make once a week recipes! Looks really good!
Chuck this recipe was amazing and so filling. I'm making another batch for the coming weekend. Thank you
Love the inspiration behind this recipe. Nice.
Looks delicious! I am a displaced New Mexican, so I go through a large jar of 505 green chile about every week. Also love red chile...Anyway, there is plenty of squash in the seed end of the butternut squash ~ it's just a little harder to use. But the seeds dry roasted in a pan are delicious, either to munch on or top stews like this one. Oh, and I just wash the squash well and leave the skin on bc it's pretty good for you. But that's when I roast it. I will have to try and see how it works with this delicious looking stew.
I love your recipe videos. You make it all look quick and easy. Just my style!
Subscribed. Love the content. Watching from Bangkok Thailand ค่ะ

Looks WONDERFUL!!!!!
You are awesome!! What a great recipe. Will be trying it soon.
And I just ordered the chopper with your link. Amazing.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do
Dude! All I need is the squash. This is happening. Although, my precious daughter in law, who’s Ojibwa, said she’s not touching it. Lol! Looks great to me!
I'm with your Ojibwa daughter-in-law. All that canned stuff, uggghhh!
This looks so yummy I just might try it.
Looks delicious, what brand is your vegetable chopper?
You can find my review of the chopper on my channel
Yes… but the origin of the ingredients is key… that’s why it is working for them in the documentary to boost their longevity… our food industry is processing everything mostly for conversation…. canned beans 😢 full of conservatives, yellow corn coming from US is grown with pesticides… so, it is harder to reach that quality… that’s my take. But I love the recipe… thanks
Ok I’ll try it, it looks really good!
Do you have a description or link for the wooden bowl?
I’m currently looking for some wood soup bowls.
I think i bought mine at my local Fred Meyers
Ah, ok, thanks. :)
Please please purchase organic as much as possible, we need to support it so we can eventually be only organic ✌🏼
I live in England when you say Veg broth what is that is it like veg stock? I haven't seen it here. Great video by the way!
Yes, that's what he means.
@@Whatsername4224 Ok thank you
This recipe worked great but can u pls be a little more elaborate for the quantities
Do you ever toast squash seeds for a snack later on?
I know they are very healthy
Thanks I’m going to try this
Yammo...👍🏻

Firstly, this video was very good, helpful. Thank you.
Secondly, you said: "The Native Americans were so healthy before we got here".
This is only partly true.
As in Central and South America, the health of the various tribes varied widely, depending on their culture, geography, conflicts, eating habits, farming practices etc.
Some indigenous people were healthy, but some tribes were hanging on by a thread; impoverished, suffering from malnutrition, and weakened by the impacts of continual tribal warfare, raiding, politics.
he's talking about north american native's .
@@edmundooliver7584 So am I. Read up on the history of the tribes... it wasn't a paradise.
@@w0mblemania yes but when the europeans came to north america it got worse and it was a paradise when they saw it.
@@edmundooliver7584 You have missed the point, presumably because you were trying to make some ideological point. The point is that native North American life wasn't some romantic ideal: it was brutal and tough. Some tribes had it much harder than others. Some thrived, some lived at a subsistence level (or worse).
@@w0mblemania I'm sure you believe what you have written.
