In 1989 I pre-ran about 70% of the track but on race day 1 I DNF'ed at about the 80kms mark which is 1/3 down the track. In 2015, I pre-run about the same but the track was quite different from 1989, still very fast but a lot more standing up. However, I made it to Finke on Day 1 and returned in one piece on Day 2, about 230 or 240 km each way. I was much slower in 2015 than I was in 1989 - old and out of touch with what was required 🙂@@frenchbulldogdad1003
I watched the whole thing hoping to see my camp. (South of Rodinga) How much skill and confidence has David Walsh got, looks over at the helo and gives the thumbs up. Legendary. Brilliant chase footage
I could not stop watching this from start to finish and I've watched everything. I was planning to do this event one day but a recent crash will stop any thought, but you made me feel that I was aboard.
To understand the fitness it takes to do this is truly on the highest of levels. To give an example would be to say starting doing body squats as fast as you can for an hour or hour and a half and squeeze tennis balls as fast as you can at the same time. Hats off to this young man.
@@eddean9674 haha yeah mate 100% a lot of people say this is a flat dirt road, honestly the toughest fastest track in Australia by Far! Takes a lot of fitness and dedication to compete in this race 💯🙌
I didn’t know it was Australia. I’ve been out of riding for a while. A friend sent me this. Remarkable footage. I love watching this. True professional right here.
Do ya reckon it's far enough back in a worst case scenario, toby cooking along at +200km/h, shit could get pretty wild losing control or braking something at them speeds, I don't think distance is the issue, a bit of common sense from spectators when the race is on wouldn't go astray.
Shame the event organisers are so useless as to not make the viewing experience of the event worthwhile at all unlike this video/ Yay years of only watching the vehicles start and arrive, so much fun. They had an extra camera this year! That showed next to nothing. What are they doing with all our money? Getting a camera and equipment and broadcasting to the live stream along the track from various points and even organising a helicopter like this video is easy with the money they get but nah they run off with the money and make it as hard as possible to enjoy the event without being there, even then the cost of racing is a scam for the normal bloke.
Totally agree, it’s like why would we go to fink as a spectator now. Granted there was a tragic accident, but similar events around the world don’t have these restrictions. Aussies are too knee-jerk, and then too lazy to stand up for common sense.
The insane cardio and muscle fatigue these riders endure must be incredible! On top of the mental fatigue running wide open and staying so focused on whats ahead!
Some of the finest desert racing footage in the world. Thank you for your work.
I raced the event in 1989 and 2015.
Were you able to ride the course prior to the start or was the entire race first hand experience?

Madness.... some top notch riding.
I could watch this all day!!! AMAZING

The big question we all want to know is can price beat walsh. Would love to see that in 2024
You obviously haven’t watched the 6 in a row that price has won the race on his bike
Both in cars ya mean aye. Now that would be interesting... 😅

Ross Branch.. all time favorite
Great vid, thanks all.
Thanks mate 🤝
You started 4th unbelievable
Crazy that people have to stand so far back compared to similar events around the world.
It’s probably the safer bet to stand back only takes one mistake from a racer and things can go real bad
I think it's because a spectator got killed last year hit by a car, liability I suppose.

@@trentprewett7223 on corners yes, but on the straights no.
Similarly crazy is the fact that he’s filming from a helicopter and you can still faintly hear those 4 strokes.
Full throttle action
🤝💯
Those guys are fast.
450 or 500 cc
500 EXC

Not impressed with the race course. No trails or technical sections. Guy's going fast but it's kinda boring to watch.
Bloke can pedal a bike

Desert race? You mean drag race? Yawning,
