Kip Metcalf is a well know storm chaser and meteorologist. He gained recognition for his work in storm chasing and documenting severe weather events, particularly tornadoes. Storm chasers like Kip Metcalf play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of severe weather patterns, helping to improve forecasting techniques and enhancing public safety awareness.
Storm chasers like Kip Metcalf often work in conjunction with meteorological organizations, research institutions, and media outlets to gather data and footage of storms. Their efforts contributed to the scientific understanding of tornado formation, behavior and moment, which in turn helps communities prepare for and respond to severe weather events more effectively.
Kip Metcalf, like other storm chasers, utilizes advanced equipment and technology to track and monitor storms while adhering to safety protocols to minimize risk associated with storm chasing activities. His work, along with that of other storm chasers, continues to contribute valuable insights into severe weather phenomena and their impacts.
Thanks kip. Because of you giving locations to me, we were able to relay to local NWS offices. Thanks so much. And be safe
Go check on them. What’s up

It's wild to see you drive right past my mother's house in Russell's point.. this storm destroyed a lot of lives. But the community is strong and will recover
this is my community the whole south side of lakeveiw is destroyed and part of russel’s point but our community came together we cause it the “lake effect” we come together and become stronger than we were before its amazing what our community has done so far
Prayers to all those affected by this terrible storm. It’s so frustrating to see people’s lives turned upside down because of mother nature. All we can do is go with the flow. I am so happy there was no more than the 1 fatality. Unless there are more now. Really messed up this community. Thanks for what you do Kip~~you are a good man. God Bless you
We live in mother natures planet. We are at her mercy.
We lost three people
Man, that's some crazy lightning! And it's constant too. Sending prayers for all who have been affected by the storm. I live in Ohio too,and I'm so fortunate that it wasn't quite as bad here. Be safe out there!
yes...it was crazy. thank you
I live at Indian lake in lakeview...scary and the devastation our beautiful town is gone...and part of Russell's point too
Does that include the grocery and hardware store? I was going to try to move there a couple of years ago. How about the Bank? Are yu all getting money to rebuild? Take care.
Grocery store and hardware store destroyed
@@we-tha-ones Wow!! Thank you.
Welcome I live in Lakeview as well
@@we-tha-ones hope the recovery is going well.
I am 32 miles south of there around Piqua. We had a tornado warning and strong winds but nothing touched down. I know our little village rallied to help those affected by the tornados there. Its amazing how people can come together in times of need. I know those areas have along way to go.
Me and my husband from Lakeview took a direct hit lost everything ty for sharing we hid in a closet and got threw it Jesus held us threw the sorm
Amen I drove in it driving towards my moms in Rushsylvania and Jesus kept me safe
Amen and Amen...Glad you are safe.
💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏
I drive this way for deliveries once a week, and when I saw the debris at 2am I was shook. I didn’t know a storm came through with damage like this. Blessings to all.
You can’t stop Mother Nature. She’s gonna do what she’s wants to do when she wants to do it.
Thank almighty God for Savior king Jesus!
U can actually
I got to thinking about Flip Wilson, and he'd say the following after making a point:
"And that's the end of that tune in one note!" Thank you for bringing us along with you during that terrible storm. I really hope the community's getting back on its feet again after that one. I was so surprised at how early that tornado struck, and Ohio doesn't get that many tornadoes each year either.
I just want to say thank you for a great video I am praying for all the people that have lost their homes and the people family that lost their loved ones a great job thank you for being a great storm chaser thank you God bless you and yours
Ohio is soo PRETTY!!!!!! Love the white and white barns🤍🤍🤍
Seen a lot of chasing vids but this one is very good sir thanks
Many prayers for everyone involved in this horrible situation. God be with all of them.
It's very scary watching tornado footage and knowing exactly where it's at
It's the most important thing is getting the word out to people.....Most people dont listen to radio or TV. The Cell phone is the best method currently. Farmer's watch the weather the most beside storm chasers
I also believe that most folks should have a battery powered Nova radio in their homes as well in that part of the country where the potential for tornadoes is great.
government recommends calling 72 survival kit @@rolandmiller5456
Wonder if any linemen will leave any comments? I just skimmed thru the video but walking in and around those lines is crazy.
The lines was broken in half couple poles down. Pole breaker with it was tripped or jarred lose
I am and Yea pretty stupid move on his part too many people think they know what they are looking and they don’t at all.
I’m not far from Lake View? I’m 180 something miles south of there. 😬 that same storm hit my area and almost did produce one right above my house around 3-4 am. Nice work Ohio and WV NWS for not knowing to issue a Tornado warning for my county…
😢wow so sad for the people there hope everyone is ok.Great video Kip the power of these storms is amazing.
Thank you...
These tornadoes had to be higher than an ef2. Destruction beyond Destruction
F1, maybe EF 2 I only see flimsy structures.
3
@@mikezylstra7514 NWS confirmed EF3
Officially confirmed EF3...was upgraded from an earlier estimated EF2
It's a confirmed 3. My father and I was one of the first reporters when it first touched down. You actually see us in this video fly by this guy. I have videos of confirmed satellites coming off of it and another video of it being a Deadman Walking tornado.
GOD BLESS OUR TRUCKERS✝️❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
At 14:24, tailgating did not influence slow car in front to speed up or move to the right (until it passed the truck).
because the tornado was just to my right side I wanted out of the way. Situational awareness.
However i wasn't to close the camera was zoomed out... If you watch people on the other side was starting to stopping....
Do they just let anyone be a chaser as long as your willing to let the weather destroy your car, I would think you should of got out and helped someone instead of just driving around trying to take pictures of the destruction I guess anyone can buy a yellow flashing light and a camera and play chaser,to bad I live in Oregon we don't get to many storms unfortunately! Boy you were helpful, what happened did you get wet?glad you made it back to your car before you got hurt or actually did anything! I'm done thanks for the entertainment.
@@danielkelchner5467 Yes... Anyone can chase. I would recommend linking up with a known chaser and/or somebody who has experience chasing. Most chaser are willing to help you get started. Safety is isn't as much as a tornado, has it other chasers on the road or others that might prevent you from making safety exists. There is National Weather Service "SPOTTER TRAINING CLASS" offered for FREE. They usually have these classes virtual or in person. Here is for a scheduled by the Wilmington Ohio of the National Weather Service. It's best to start Here. www.weather.gov/iln/spottertrainingschedule If you need help finding a class in your area, please let me know. Kip
That coke belch at around 1:46 was priceless! After what you'd been through, I betcha feel better! I needed a good laugh, too.
We saw lightning like that in October, 2019 here in Dallas with the sttorm that tore through North Dallas. Sending prayers for all affected and their families and friends.
I’m not criticizing, but this video that you took is in Russles Point Lakeview is like five minutes down the road from that and it was destroyed. My mother lives there and I drove through right after the first tornado touchdown. I left my house right as our tornado alert system went off for the second Tornado touchdown that rip through Lakeview trying to get to her. The devastation there was astronomical the homes and buildings and boats and transformers, laying across roads, peoples couches and chairs, and other pieces of their homes, laying all over the place. It was very, very, very emotional, and very, very, very devastating!!
Great chase. Thanks for what u do.
It looks like Xenia in 74
My cat's name is Xenia
4/4/1974 xenia
I remember that. The bank the only thing left was the foundation and the vault.
It's in Logan county Indian lake Ohio and rushhel point
I'm north of Dayton. Just north of 70 and I could see and hear the constant lightning from here. Cool video !
I’m near your location. Scary.
@@suemoo22It was a scary night and we were so glad to see it in the distance but it was impossible to to sleep till it was truly over. Stay safe my friend !
Love Ohio ❤️ that blizzard flurry is epic man I would drive all through that dangerous storm picking up beers, weed, and grub all while on my scooter while lightning and thunder surround me it's perfect 👌
Tornadoes seem to have a radar for mobile home parks
That's the truth
Replay: I like seeing the funnel form then come down out of the sky. Hopefully in to a large field.
Yes....empty field
great job Kip God bless you sir 😊
Thank you... I try to produce the best quality video on my live feed during my chases & support those affected ..
My storm chaser friend
The number of times I have been at that truck stop at Wapakoneta over the decades on my way to Detroit...
Mother Nature had no hand in this. This was 100% weaponized Weather. No God Damned Funnel clouds. Check wid duh white trash at NWS, no PHucking rotation
Hey Kip be extremely Careful with lightning ⚡ I've already almost been Struck by lightning ⚡ 6 different times. Kip I don't like lightning ⚡ ⚡⚡⚡ myself. Thank You Kip for this awesome video 👍👋😃 Kip I've just found your Channel I'm BRAND NEW HERE 👋👍😃🌪️
Thank you... Be safe as I can
Thank you for taking your time out of your day to share this video with us, I live in Kentucky and I'm so sorry for the loss of those ppl who losted their lives to this very bad Strom my condolences to their families God bless stay safe. Be kind to other's
Welcome.... Thank you...
Hey Kip, just thought you should know that your vehicle needs a wheel/tire alignment.
ok.... it's going in for body repair next week. Then I'll get tires balanced and alignment
I'm from Van Wert ohio and we are no strangers to this kinda thing . We had severe EF4 in the fall of 2002. It was so horrible and tragic, hopefully logan county can recover from this just as fast as we did thoughts and prayers to the 4 victims. It seems like Northwest ohio is Tornado ally or even the intire state of ohio for that matter
your a magnet for tornado's in that area. A favorite chase area... I come up there an sit under the wind turbines.
Rare when we get above 1 category tornadoes in NE ohio along the lake. Only natural disaster we are familiar with is flooding. When I moved to north columbus and worked in newark, I saw the geography was ideal for a tornado. After living in a rather safe zone my entire life, I can just look at an area and come quickly to the decision that it’s unsafe, and it might not even take much time for disaster to come! It only took a couple of days of extreme rain before countless main roads in my area were permanently closed from roads and bridges washing out, thousands of residents misplaced, and whole estates abandoned.
Those poor people!!! As an Insurance Investigator I know first hand what these storms can do and how much it effects those who have lost everything. Prayers to them all.
I am already having trouble with my insurance !!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that.@@melvinrotroff6108
Butt dialing 911 really cause alot of trouble. They then have to try and track your call and send an officer out. It takes away time and resources from someone who actually needs help. I'm a former 911 Operator...
I did speak with 911. They informed me that the car up ahead was trapped with power pole and lines on the car. They asked for me to help block the road until rescue and LE could arrive.
@StormChasertKipMetcalf Great. So glad you were able to help.
Thank you for sharing this.
The best of the Best Video!!!🎉
Worst experience of my life I got hit by the bank in Lakeview in my truck and watched a semi get rolled absolutely terrifying
I live in Santa Fe, just a few miles west of lakeview, the tornado narrowly missed my house by about 500 feet, probably less than that.
I live in Lakeview (Midway) we got hit really bad the old sane have it one minute gone the next don't wish this on anybody alot of people's life's are destroyed can't sleep every time the wind blows or lightning & thunder or rain hits we are up I pray that the people of Indian Lake recovers
They have never cleaned up anything at Konneta Rubber factory since the tornado on April 1st 2023. One of these tornados in Wapak is going to kill someone from the flying sheet metal loose on the building. NO EXCUSE!
Hot area for tornado's... wapk to ft wayne...US 30 corridor
Yeah I drive that way to work everyday and always wonder when they are going to clean it up. I just missed that tornado, had passed maybe less then a minute ahead of it on my way home from Honda on 75. Scary. I’ve had too many close encounters with tornadoes, but oddly enough they are a bit of a hobby for me.
Great video 🎉
Thank you
Prayers to all we need to get better warning systems out there or people need to get out of trailer homes because they’re 🌪️ weapon.
That was a bad one!
Keep a very close eye on the weather and I mean a very close eye on it
Great video!👍🇺🇸 Greetings form Poland. 🇵🇱
Thank you. Welcome from Poland... It's about to start our tornado season. Spring is here... But not today in Ohio. Snow showers. blah
Thank you for the video. The power, strength and destruction of a tornado is unbelievable. The wind can cause so much damage in a short amount of time. Theres no way i could be out chasing a storm but I know how important it is to know where these storms are headed so people can take cover and be safe. Seeing people out walking down the road to check on family and friends is heartbreaking. Thank you for helping people and gathering information so we can learn more about these dangerous storms.
Thank you...
Tragic event. I'll post my video monday
I respect u kip and ur videos
Awesome video 👍💪
Thank you...
i live an hour and a half from here, i'll never forget this night, sirens blaring at 4am, it was pouring rain, and i was like "what the hell is going on?"
Hi Kip I'm new to your channel
Welcome to the channel
i know where wapakeneta i used to go there when i worked with an egg factory i worked as an truck aid for semis when new drivers started
Whenever you pull over like that, especially on an incline, you should turn off your headlights. Even when on dim, the incline makes them bright to those coming toward you... you're blinding them. Even if you're not on an incline, if you have several lights (like the newer Chevy and gmc) you're still blinding people with your lights.
I'll try being more mindful.... I get so damn busy... it's my time to look at the computer, radar, models, msg before making my next move
Crazy lightning
yes it was
I'm in ohio and the news did upgrade the tornado to an f3 and the death total was 3. We're northeast of here and didn't have any problems, but we're glued to the weather. It was scary.
I'm near Akron, was watching this storm, but was more concerned with the one that went through Plymouth, as it's initial path was straight at me before it pushed north.
The last time I missed the exit you got, I had to go all the way to Sidney to turn around !
Being from there, I can tell you, if you are not on the interstate, you better know those backroads and country highways. You can get to St Marys from Sidney in less than half an hour. People think I am crazy for saying I know West Ohio like the back of my hand. They think it is bragging, but you have to know where you are.
I had to move or get hit... but once i got off, i shouldn't had got back on. My mistake. I thought cars and trucks got hit...
I sure could have used your help during the chase
Respect to you Storm chaser, you help people by your job.
I'm watching the video from Italy. Terribile storm, massive disaster
Pray for you 🙏 How many people died ?
Hope your National fource helps you soon
Hell if a storm, you did good work!
Thank you... I try to produce the best quality video on my live feed during my chases ..

thank and welcome aboard
I live not that far north from Lima and ibwas covering these storms and when i saw that first PDS warning go out i knew that this was gonna be worse than April 1st of 2023 for Ohio. Thankfully where i live was not affected by any bad storms
I wouldnt have walked bear that downed utility power line
The T/A truck stop you passed was hit by a tornado about a year or so ago
So that's why it was closed last year...
My goodness what a mess. Hope everyone is OK.
Nature gets angry sometimes.
Hi kip in Kentucky yesterdays thunderstorms was two different types one first went thru moved fast cloud to ground lightning
Who looks the wearther in Cincinnati?.be all safe.hope nobody is died 😢
sadly, 3 people lost their lives...
Tornados can kill! Jesus saves!
Not smart to walk on wet conductive ground next to those lines. Easily could of filmed himself dying.
We live 9 miles from Winchester. and they got hit hard but no deaths. which is good
Tank you oh is crazy 😮
As quiet as the cab of your vehicle is I'm guessing you might be a ham. If such is the case I would recommend looking into it. The SkyWarn program has a lot of free training available.
I used to help with NWS Annual Basic Spotters training, advance Classes, x 16 counties per year surround Columbus Ohio and attended training @ SPC annually for 10yrs Yes I'm a LID
@@StormChaserKipMetcalf outstanding! I lived in Xenia and started storm chasing after our tornado. A hobby I pursued even while in the military for 28 years. I'm getting a bit old for that now but we have you young folks to do it.
@@DaveJohnsonad5nm young? Lol. First all “Thank you for your 28 years of service to this country”. I visited a supplier Ihad there in Xenia fora decade, and ride my gold wing there couple times a year. Another Xenia anniversary in 2 weeks. I helped move the NWS from Columbus to Wilmington in 97/98’. Again Thank you!!!
Those tornado warning sirens remind me of the Cold War
I’m new here greetings from Oklahoma
welcome from OK. OKC?
I'm a big fan of the nation weather center in Norma
This was the one that crossed Indiana Ohio boarder line through Greenville headed to Urbana.
En el Nombre de Jesús que todo tornado se a cancelado , Dios tu tienes poder padre, protege a todas esas personas que están en peligro.protege sus hogares y ha todos los habitantes .
i can slightly hear a 2001 srn going off
Horrible! Indian Lake is devastating
It will be back....it's going to take time
супер виши сили няма няма Европа няма Америка Господ ги кълца приятно гледане
Another effect of this is homesickness! The midwest farmland.
You know what's funny and the truth we get more rain in the winter than we do any other time of the year. Sure not summer time we go into a drought every year. Here in Springfield .we get one inch of rain a month...if we are lucky.
snow showers today
God bless you! Jesus saves! No such thing as luck!!
we can't see it.
People on the highways be like....I'm just going to sit here in the middle of the road and impede all the traffic. Pi$$ Poor Planning. Great Job to the storm chaser out there making sure people are safe and not still stuck in downed homes.
Were they supposed to just keep driving right into the tornado's path?
The tornado was jus to my right...i pushing to clear myself or waiting to long to move out of the storms way
Can't help but think Nikola Tesla storm because of the lightning ⚡. Hope everyone was safe through this
I was in this Strom well shall I say driving in the first of it and Boy pink lighting surrouned me I was scared
Very intense electrical storm
Had tornadoes in 7 states indiana was one of themgolf size hail

We get thunderstorms lve l been waching tornado and l been waching them every day l never been that close to one before
What the heck...the car in front...scoot!
Yes....the tornado wad coming from the right... i wanted out of the way

Im in Marysville.... Yes. Used to live in Hiliard, Plain City and Dublin
@@StormChaserKipMetcalf, Hilliard Rome Rd., and just east of, was the hardest hit. Wasn’t sure if you were here when it actually happened or afterwards. Was curious if you were able to capture it as it happened.
