Bought the older version (2nd hand) a month ago. Its replaced a scott Scale 29er and my god its awesome! Flies round Dalby and was just enough travel for Grizedale and south lakes bridleways. I wanted an XC race full sus but also 2 bottle cages so this limited me. I dont regret the Supercaliber at all 😀
I'm in the process of arranging almost the same move. I'm ending my affair with the beloved Scale and pulling the trigger on Supercaliber. Expectations are to go faster';-))))
Your reviews are always absolute BANGER! Thank you so much for what you do! That is one awesome update Trek has done with that bike. I’m SUPER happy with my 2023 Top Fuel 9.7. No racing in my future, so I couldn’t have made a better choice! 😀 Cheers.
Cheers Kirk, glad you enjoy them. Yeah they’ve done a great job on the Supercal, just got back in from 25 miles over the moors on it and it was flying. If you’re not racing or chasing climbing KOMS though Top Fuel is definitely the way to go 👍🏻
Excellent review. Thanks. I just ordered one. I have a gen 1 SC and love it.
Same! Love my Gen 1 9.9! But I’m ordering the Gen 2 XTR build shortly! 🤙🏻
Wow awesome, amazing bike! That really is the perfect bike for me and the trails l ride.
The OG Epic World Cup lol lol
Nice bike!! I guess the Carbon Red Smoke color looks much better in person.
does the new frame design fix the fragile chainstays?
Love these videos! Riding a 2021 Top Fuel, really nicely specced weighing 11.75 kg with pedals, cages, garmin mount. New bike on the horizon and trying to decide between Oiz M 10 or Supercaliber 9.8 XT. Racing trying to get good results but only 5-10 races a year. Like the capability of my TF but feels a little sluggish going fast uphill and on the flat sections... any advice?
The Current Oiz has more suspension travel front end rear 120mm
Sorry I missed this Mattias. The Supercaliber would definitely feel a lot sharper than the TF on the climbs and uphills. You'll be working harder on descents for sure though. Hopefully getting an Oiz to test very soon so stay tuned.
Those handle bars are super DUPER wide. Beautiful bike
They're 750mm but you can chop them down
@@GuyKesTV, I chopped mine to 580 for a more comfy and sportier ride
I cut the bars to 690mm and slammed the stem/bar combo.
would you recommend sizing down? I was told by some that the wheelbase also grew quite a bit where almost a bike size down to get the same wheelbase was recommended by some. Just curious on your thoughts there- thanks!! your reviews are awesome!
I'd say stick with your normal size as they've shortened the stem to compensate for the reach growth
Great review of a super bike. I do not mind the cables as I am a form over fashion person...but the price makes my eyes and bank balance water.
The cheapest SL spec is actually relatively reasonable and the frame is only 200g heavier
Yes I could be interested but the high cost of living in the UK has shattered my savings for a new bike.@@GuyKesTV
What I don't understand is how can this bike frame weigh 1.95kg but the Epic Evo is at ~1.65kg, Orbea Oiz at ~1.75kg, Scott spark RC ~1.8Kg. These bikes all have much longer travel plus they have the linkages? Is this supercaliber way more stiff or how does it compare to the longer travel (not downcountry) pure XC bikes?
I’d say it’s slightly stiffer torsionally due to the shock but the shock itself is much heavier. 130g heavier than a SIDLuxe of the same stroke before you take all the hardware and extra slider etc into account.
Hi there, do you think a 2.4 tire will fit on that SID ultimate SL ? I really like the bike, but that fork is a little limited...
Cheers
Officially RockShox say no which is why it comes stock with 2.2. All I can say is that I switched to 2.4 versions of the same tire and didn’t have any issues while riding. I can’t speak to whether there could be an issue with an extreme bottom out with that tire or a 2.4 in another model
With the tires trek specs the 2.2 that it comes with measures more like 2.0 and treks 2.4 measures 2.25. So you should be fine with the bontrager 2.4 tires
Did you cover the brake caliper bracket difference.... 🤔
They're both Level Stealth Ultimate 4 pot on post mount or am I missing something?
Wished they bring back top fuel xc, then update x-caliber to boost TA
Xcall need update. Geometry and Thru-Axle at rear
Hi, I hope you still have the bike. I am planning to get a Supercaliber G2, the same color as you have on the video. is that a real black ? or there are red nuances ??? At trek website it seems there are some red "smoke" effects on the black colour. I my bikes have been black, so that is something I want to avoid....Cheers and thanks
Hi Nuno, bike has gone back so I can't send a close up photo but the red is definitely obvious in the frame.
@@GuyKesTV Thanks , meanwhile I talked with my shop and they also confirmed that
Specialized world cup VS Trek Supercaliber SLR 9.9 Gen 2 that is what I want to see
That’s all covered in the live ride uploading next 👍🏻
Am I crazy to think that this frame could be a very interesting candidate for a bikepacking build?
Not at all, probably the best short travel FS bike you could pick. You can fit a frame bag for a start!
how long until we get the live ride video Guy? btw this would be my choice of race bike if i had the money lol
It’s uploading now boss. Had to shoot some extra audio after a video chat with the Trek design team revealed some interesting stuff
@@GuyKesTV ok Guy thank you, i've put it in my watch list for later :)
what beter this one or S-works
This one
A few tie rips would fix the cables mess
Yep, the bikes running Flight Attendant shock and fork at the Worlds looked super neat so hopefully that's not far off.
Sounds like the bushings are again too tight and will need to be manually sized. No mention of the lack of lockout lever option??
They are hand sized but they’re still pretty tight. I’m about ten hours in now though and it’s getting smoother. The dampers are same as a standard SID and SIDLuxe so you could fit a shock mounted lever or a single poploc but TwistLoc is the only twin cable system from RockShox currently AFAIK
@@GuyKesTV so it looks like sid luxe shim tunes can be retrofitted then? Do you know what shimstacks come stock? Stoked sidluxe has tuning options available
@@milliebays1801 I’ll ask the design team
@@GuyKesTV looks like the tuning guide doesn't list other options for isostrut. I didn't look at shim dimensions, maybe itd work. Sadly it doesn't look like you can retrofit a lockout lever. Big miss.
Rockshox Suspension with a Fox Dropper Post.
Hilarious.
It’s the lightest option. Some come with Reverb AXS or Bontrager
weigth of tyres?
718/722g for the 2.2 (with some sealant residue) 786/794 for the 2.4
I would have happily taken the extra 30 grams to not have the controls take gouges out of the top tube
Acoustics
Those cables….
Yep, the bikes running Flight Attendant shock and fork at the Worlds looked super neat so hopefully that's not far off.
Claimed weight is 200 grams lighter than you stated here…1760g or so is claimed weight.
No it's not. Both the Trek launch PR and the website state 1.95kg for the frame and that was confirmed in conversation with the designers.
@@GuyKesTV you are 100% correct. I mixed it up with the specialized. Thanks. Great work.
@@tapuzak no worries mate, always worth double checking!
At that price point that bike is screaming for a Reverb over the Transfer for aesthetics and to match the AXS.
Yes but a Reverb is 300g heavier
headset look like a mess with all those cable...
Agreed, but still prefer it to headset routing for long term servicing
where is the chainguide...
That's a good point. None fitted and no obvious mounts either
MRP now makes one for the 😅21+ Supercaliber, Procaliber and the 20/21 Top Fuel. MRP 1x SL chain guide.
Unacceptable cable mess 😮
Yep, the bikes running Flight Attendant shock and fork at the Worlds looked super neat so hopefully that's not far off.
