      For an even deeper look at the financial underpinnings of Japan's rise to prominence as a modern military power during the span of history covered by your informative video, check out a book titled: 'Empire of the City: The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde nature of the British Government'. Published in 1945, it was researched and written by an American Great War veteran who became disillusioned by the stated reasons America entered that conflict.

      Little-known history.
      President Theodore Roosevelt sailed the American fleet around the world in 1907, two years after the Battle of Tsushima.
      The fleet consisted of 16 battleships and was named the Great White Fleet.
      The fleet called at Yokohama Port in Japan on October 18, 1908.
      The purpose of the US fleet's visit to Japan is to show off the strong military power of the United States and draw concessions from the Japanese government on the immigration issue that has already caused anti-Japanese riots on the west coast of the United States.
      It also aimed to prevent Japan's victory over the white nation from adversely affecting colored races in the United States, especially blacks, and to make Americans aware of the need for increased military spending.
      The later Pearl Harbor had already begun around this time.

    I'm curious about Japanese logistics and supply during this time. Were they already producing sufficient numbers of arms and ammunition for this war? Or how much of the Japanese arms and ammunition had to be bought from other countries?

    • @ThePacificWarChannel
      @ThePacificWarChannel  7 місяців тому +1

      Britain and the United states were financially backing Japan, while France and Germany backed Russia. Japan was purchasing some ships from Britain, but they manufactured their own rifles, munitions and such. By the end of the war both Russian and Japan were verging bankruptcy, however Russia simply could have borrowed more and gone on longer. In other words Japan's logistical capabilities brought her to a halt after she won at Mukden/Tsushima.

    You got it wrong. Wilhelm II was 1st cousin to George V of Britain (Willhelm's mother and George's father were sister and brother.) George and Nicholas II were cousins, their mothers being sisters. Nicholas and Wilhelm were not closely related. Some modern British authors get that wrong too.

  • @MaitlandJones

    The information is good, the issue for me is you talk too fast to the point where you sound out of breath, and have trouble annunciating, and sometimes your sentences are cut off at the end in the editing. You are trying to say in one minute what should be said in five. Also while the movie clips are great visuals, they are rather jarring when sped up, I would recommend slowing them to normal speed unless that is causing you to be hit with the banhammer. I criticize not to be a hater but because I see what could be an AMAZING documentary. If you got to stretch a 30 minute video to be an hour so be it, that means I got more video to enjoy. It's frustrating like I have been presented with a fine wagyu steak, only to be told that I must scarf it down in five minutes without taking the time to savor and take in the taste.

    • @ThePacificWarChannel
      @ThePacificWarChannel  2 роки тому +2

      Everything you say is true. I was so pressed to shorten it time wise that it hurt the quality. I learnt from this episode and wont make the same mistakes. If I could go back in time I would have made 2 episodes 20-30 minutes each.

    • @MaitlandJones
      @MaitlandJones 2 роки тому +2

      @@ThePacificWarChannel Personally, I wouldn't mind sitting down for a much longer video. And the praise in the comments is well earned. Not to mention I wished there were more documentaries on this specific war. I really think you should revisit the topic sometime in the future! Part of my deciding on what topic to pick for a paper I'm going to work on is, checking out some documentaries. I'm still torn on whether I'd cover the Sino or Russo Japanese war. I'm going to subscribe, since you got really good information, and I'm doing my master's degree on Modern Japanese military history.

    The fact that Russia denied an amazing deal of Manchuria, for Korea…. Is just Fcking boggling.
    -Russia keeps its warm water port.
    -It can secure the protection of its railway.
    -Also just get way more land.
    Only down side I see is they don’t get to use the mountains as a defensible border in North Korea. But that’s it…

      Yes you are right they were not all first cousins
      Wilhelm’s mother was the sister of George’s father; George’s mother and Nicholas’ mother were sisters from the Danish royal family. All three men were also fifth cousins, being equal descendants of King George II of England.
      Wilhelm and George were first cousins, George and Nicholas were also first cousins, and Wilhelm and Nicholas were third cousins.

      Well, the Japanese only had to fight near its main supply base. The Russian literally had to travel thousands of kilometers to reach the battlefront.

    Maybe his story could be interesting ... but only if he would speak much more quickly. And, oh yeah: when he uses those little figures to represent all of those ships --- particularly during the battle sequences, like that at Port Arther --- he should NOT USE different colors so as to differentiate the opposing sides; rather, he should have ALL of them the same dull gray color. Hope this helps. [Click OFF! Unsubscribe!]
