Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this lesson. I'm wondering about the use of the phrase "doomed to success". Is it a Russian idiom or just the way Putin chose to put it?
Hi Adam! "Обречён на успех" is a common phrase that´s worth learning by heart. The opposite is "обречён на провал". For example, эта идея была обреченá на успех (провал) с самого начала.
Well... it isnot an idiom. It is a putdiom
In English, we would say destined or fated to succeed.
@@songcasserole3773 Thanks - after reading other comments it sounds like "fated" is the word with the closest connotation - definitely not an exact translation.
It's interesting how trying to translate can be fraught with pitfalls. One word Putin once used to describe Donald Trump was "яркий" which translates as something like bright or colorful or even flamboyant but Trump took it to mean bright as in intelligent.
i used to speak a little bit of Russian but its was really weak and not at all grammatically correct. watching russian movies and hearing my russian family and friends speaking the language helped boost it and this video helped so much more so спасибо вам большое :)
Рада помочь! Try to practice Russian with your friends and family as much as you can and you´ll see great results quickly
putin is the reason i do learn russian
Me too
I agree enthusiastically with Vagn Jensen. I have been watching (often for less than 60 seconds) speeches and broadcasts on the regular Russian news. But I keep getting blown away, because it is like trying to drink from a fire hose. This video breaks it down to bite size pieces.
Then I´ll record more videos like this one. I´m glad it was helpful!
I love the Russian language, thank you I needed this!
Happy to help!
