Brings memories back to my days of growing up in West Scranton and my dad owning The Lackawanna Bakery on South Main St - I loved the area back in the 1970s,it was a great place to be and grow up in
You could smell the various restaurants ambiance wafting thru the air as you walked around the town, diesel from the buses and trains, people with beer breath were common as many drank around the clock !!!!
We Love Scranton us Martinellis...my Dad was born in Dunmore but He Loved this City and served on its City Council and as deputy controller under Roseann Novembrino...and it was during Mayor McNultys days early 80's...when our city was so Beautiful and a Happy place to live!!! God Bless Scranton...And Happy Thanksgiving to all of us Scrantonian s!!!
My Dad worked a second job...at American Auto.during the Holidays..to make sure his children had toys for Christmas...they sold toys there...what Great Christmas s we had!!!! Great memories!!! The downtown was AWESOME back then..his loan office was there as well!! Signal finance it was called..
Can still smell the bread baking over by the rail yards, Williams, and Spaulding bakeries mixed with the diesel smoke from trains and the fried onions from Larry's railroader restaurant !!!! If the wind was right you could smell bananas from the wholesale block !!!
Agreed. I could not last more than 30 seconds with that crappy Irish music. Various nationalities live there. You’d swear it was 1850 with that folk music.
Haunting song. So much is gone. This South Side misses the old times.
