- If you want to know which pages your visitors are landing on, you need to use a landing page report.
In this video, I will show you how to build a landing page report in Google Analytics 4. But there is an unexpected (and weird) twist to it.
Alternatively, I will also show how to view landing pages in Looker Studio (previously known as Google Data Studio).

Great! We really like your videos they are amazing. And since you guys in the United States are light years ahead here in Brazil in content and strategies, without a doubt, we just have to congratulate you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This was a message from heaven! I was thinking about this today and trying to figure out how to get the results right. Nice to hear the solution and explanation from a real guru. Thanks! 🙏
same here
This is life saving info, thanks Julius
This was enormously helpful. Thanks!
love your work
super clear and useful. Thank you
I re-created this "workaround landing page report" in Looker Studio, using the session_start filter with dimension 'page path' and metric 'event count', but I'm not seeing the same numbers as in my GA4 landing page report (ex: seeing 18,205 homepage sessions in this Looker Studio 'landing page report' but seeing 58,543 homepage sessions in GA4 landing page report). Any ideas as to why there's such a big difference when this report is meant to mirror the landing page report?
When i compare landing pages in GA4 to those in UA, the numbers are way off. GA4 is always significantly less. Any clue as to why?
thanks!
Hi Julius! Thanks for the video. In the Landing Page report you show that you should analysed it as being the total number of pageviews that Landing Page URL generated. Is there a way to see what those or the first URL user visited after landing in that specific landing page? Is it only possible to track that with paths exploration? Or there's other way?
Hi Julius, thanks for sharing the twist with us. I have a 2 part question:
1. I noticed that the numbers are not tallying for page path and page location. Do you have any explanation for that that can help clarify the discrepancy?
2. Numbers for Page path and page titles match so would it safe to assume that the number presented by either of those dimensions would accurately represent the actual numbers of views and users visiting those pages?
Your content and insights are highly appreciated 🙏
Thank you for putting this together. I'm wondering if you know how to add Entry & exit pages in Looker Studio
Around 5:40 mark, you mention you can select between Page path or Page title. The data changes & has higher numbers when I switch from path to title. Why is this happening?
Julio, I have G-4 set up but not specially for landing pages, considering the landing is the homepage. I need to collect data from another landing page. Created with the autoresponder I wish to pass it to G-4, noticed it's requesting Landing page + query. Looking you give a little more or clue.
Is there a way to add entrances and exist as custom dimensions in Looker Studio? Thank you!
At mark 5:30 when you remove the event_name=session_start from dimension and add page_path how do you know that the page_path it is showing you is the first landing page?
I watched in the future and Landing Page is available. It worked like a charm. How do I get transactions that resulted from this landing page?
Hi, I have seen that google data studio numbers are not the same as google analytics. What is the reason? Thanks
Same as Ryan P - not seeing it on my end, either. Also using 'Landing page + query string" and can confirm it matches views from path page dimension as well.
Heyo - be careful if you use explore to create a report to show views by landing page. I believe I am running into this issue here. Still doing a qa but I noticed when I added in page_path or page location to the report I would be shown subsequent pages and when I filtered to the landing page based on page location the views looked more realistic. Still working through this but just wanted to give you a heads up theres a chance this could still be an issue
Thanks Julius. A question: Why User metric decrease in your example?
Hi Julius, I have seen your videos they are great.
I have one question how to block post login all the pages permanently like /login, /dashboard, /projects and all the pages on google analytics 4. Since these pages are appearing in my landing page reports. I have tried using filter in GA4. Landing page ->Add Filter -> Include-> Page screen Hostname. Still these pages appear login, /dashboard, /projects. Can you please help me related to this thanks.
What if we are looking to see where they went after the initial landing page? How do we see the 2nd and 3rd pages they visited in Looker Studio?
Looker Studio how to index all pages on google when people do searches and find my dashboard
Thanks a lot for the video, it helped me a lot. Do you have a similar tip for the exit pages on Google Looker studio ?
Looker studio does not have "exits" metric yet
Hello. Could you help me resize a Looker Studio report to A4 size for printing?
Hi Julius, why did you use Looker Studio to build the session start report instead of using the Explore section in GA4? Thank you
Because I just wanted to show how that can be done
From my own experiences, explore section in Ga4 isn't very convenient, no visual setting to make it custom and more readable, and if i share my dashboards to my customers they can't even edit the date unless they duplicate my work to be owner of the report, very weird system from google. Datastudio is better to share report to customers, but sadly dimensions and metrics are missing.
How long is a session?
A customer asked me to do a small dashboard to follow conversions by conversion name for each landing page, i didn't had issues to do it in GA4, but i thought it would be better to do it in datastudio. I was surprised that "landing page"'s dimension aren't available in data studio. It doesn't made any sens, why did google chose to not include this dimension very important?
They just did not update the connector yet (I don't remember when was the last time they updated that connector. But it's been a while)
Can u make a video about how to make a report where i can see how much conversions each landingpage generated? Thanks for the good work.
i just made it for a customer in GA4, quite easy, but not possible in datastudio because this dimension is missing sadly.
@@desmarsentreprise6572 could u share how u did it? thanks!
@@markmarketer landing page in row,s event name in column, in value you put conversion and event value, and in filter you put "is conversion" = true, that's will give you your report with conversions by landing page. If need help i can maybe do it for you.
Wondering if anyone help me. If I have a web form that's on multiple pages and a conversion event has been set-up for submission of the form. If someone lands on the homepage and then goes onto a page where they submit a form, will this be attributed to the first landing page i.e. the homepage?
and on the pages and screens report would the web form submission only be attributed to the pages where the actual submission can happen?
Yes to both questions
Can you please share Looker studio templates
It is already fixed, even though right now the Landing Page tab is available under the Engagement tab cat. However I found out that for some properties it can be invisible, I mean I can see 4 options under Engagement while the last one is clickable but there is no visible text - Landing Page.
It's a gradual rollout
Great hack, thanks! The fact that we actually have to hack this kind of report together speaks to what an inferior solution GA4 is, however. Just sayin.
Interesting - not seeing that on my end. If I use landing page + query string (land page not available) it matches views from page path dimension 11/22/22
Looks like GA4 changed this several days ago
I se the same thing as Ryan
@@AnalyticsMania I'm still seeing discrepancies on my end between landing page + query and page path as of 11/29/2022, in the US.
update: I dont dont see this issue if I go to reports -> pages like in this video but I am seeing it if I create my own report via explore in GA4. This resulted in my views metric being double or triple counted in some cases - scary. Im hoping I can get around this by adding a page_location filter.
Landing page is now available in Looker Studio but it's still useless. You still can choose a specific event or conversion, if you try and do that it just errors ...
Thanks. Not being able to have nor even build a report with landing page + conversions is a killer zone: GA4 is failing here.
You can build a landing page report with a conversion in it. Plus, you could also add the session conversion rate metric too. All of this can be done in the standard GA4 reports section. Not sure where the problem is.
@@AnalyticsMania I followed the video above and it shows how to make a report in GA + Locker Studio for landing pages, but then you say (6:30) that you can not just do it in Studio without other tools and paid connections (or did I misunderstand?).
I think this should be possible out of the box in GA, or at least feasible in Studio without hassle.
It's ridiculous how hard it is to get to specific page analytics ... I rarely want to see what my overall site metrics are because the site is so huge. I want to see specific pages ... and the inability to click through to these pages is a big loss in GA4.
now it says landing page +query string?
Not a problem
A video about (not set) by landing pages would be fine.
coming soon
50 odd days left and we still don't have the landing page dimension in Looker Studio. Eeek!
You just use sessions as the metric instead of pageviews
Yes, that's the point
GA4 is clearly not ready... wtf is google doing
