That intro with the TV footage, history, and photos was great! It adds some very interesting context and I'd love to see more of that. Thanks for making these videos!
It's more the drain brought on by casinos than internet shopping. If a casino takes in, say, $100,000 a day, that's a hundred thousand that isn't being spent at the mall. How many casinos? How many hundreds of thousands every single day?
The silence just adds to the eerie empty feeling of being in a place like that with nothing in it and no one there. I can only imagine what actually being there is like.
I went here as a teen all the time back in the mid to late 90's and it was booming packed wall to wall! Such a sad shame to see the way it was here and in video's of how it is today. My favorite mall,so much better than Greeceridge,Marketplace or even Eastview . being the only Two story mall in the area made it big but still easier to get around and back in the 90's all the stores were filled and the food court maybe had 1 empty spot but mostly upcoming expansions! The arcade was at the end of the food court! R.I.P. My favorite Mall :( THANK YOU FOR THIS NOSTALGIC TRIP!
I'm getting a tad obsessed myself. I think because the shopping mall represents, to me, the height of early-mid 1990s nostalgia...the era of my childhood. A time of some amazing memories I made. Many an afternoon, I'd head to the mall with one or both of my parents, have lunch, throw pennies in one of those huge fountains that were always so beautiful to me. It's a little sad to see a piece of my childhood disappearing because of the internet and other factors. But also fascinating and poignant.
From hanging out in malls in the late 90’s early 00’s to working, to working in them, I just love seeing the old stores. I can picture them being open.
I think for those of us who lived in this era...born in the late 80's/early 90's...raised in the 90's....this was what we grew up with and its so sad and shocking to see that these malls are becoming farther and fewer in between, and so its only natural to wonder what the heck is happening here?
Wow! I can't believe you were able to walk straight in, but yet there is no graffiti, damage or signs of scrapping... Amazing, dead mall gold! Keep up the awesome videos :)
Crazy thing is... this mall never had a problem with any vandalism before it got changed into its current form. Many malls in the time it took this mall to get plans underway were already ransacked.
Beautiful ! Really enjoyed your walk through and the intro was excellent - Dan Bell is a fave of mine but I have to say , I'm definitely going to be watching your videos regularly as I appreciate your style , very calm and focused on the right things . New fan here !
Ace's Adventures i do not mean to sound like a repeat parrot...i do not know if you already answered this in other comments or by the end of the vid as i am only in the middle...sorry in advance How did you get access? i know its not your style to break in...so i was curious
From 16:08 to 16:48, that area is now part of Irondequoit Recreation. The immediate area in front of the former JCPenney is now a gymnasium. The stair case is of course gone and much of the second floor has been reconfigured. The only thing left in place from the original design of the mall is the skylight. So the brief glimpse we get of the skylight at around 16:25 now looks down on a hub of activity of people exercising and small children playing and taking basketball classes. Seems like a good start to rehabilitation.
Good ol Rochester NY. My home for 21 years. I remember going here when it was packed and when it was empty. It's much worse now, alot of water damage and mold.
Wow, it's weird seeing this mall again. My mom took us on a mini trip to Rochester I think back in 2006 or 2007, to go to the Strong Museum, and we stopped in this mall. It was really creepy walking through a massive mall that only had about 5 stores open, and only about 3 other people walking around.
It's just so heartbreaking to see so many dead malls in the country. I'm 36 so my youth was built upon malls. That was always the Friday night or weekend night thing to do, go to the mall, wander around, get some food court food and head home just before the doors locked (even once I had to take the emergency exit out of Freehold Mall and Woodbridge Mall in NJ). So to see them just these dead buildings is just a sign of the times but at the same time proof of how something so amazing can fall to nothing. Thank you for bringing this. I wonder if this mall still looks as pristine inside as it does in this video.
The town and police have been doing a great job keeping tabs on this property compared to other cities. Of course it helps too that this mall is out in the open where everyone can see it from all sides.
WOW, just left one of your other Dead Mall ventures where you listed this as your favorite Mall so I ventured right over here. I agree! Although Rolling Hills got a lot of attention, this Mall is actually more beautiful. Love the colors as well. Thanks, Ace! :)
It's really cool to see these storefronts. I worked in malls from 1986 until 2009 and remember so many of these stores. The Lerner New York store brings a lot of memories back, as was a manager for Lerner for over 11 years. My last stores storefront looked almost identical to the one in this mall. I worked at Macys for 9.
I miss this mall... hard to imagine it booming now, but this used to be a REALLY busy place. It had so many unique stores, and as I recall it was the first in the area to have the double decker carousel (Greece ridge and eastview got theres just 3-4 years later) I always made a point to go there just before school started, loved the (original) KB toys...never understood why they moved...god this looks depressing now though, it used to feel so lively and vibrant. Hallmark, Carlton cards, the Disney store, waldens books and that collectible store by the fountain...just an amazing place this was. None of the other malls in this area can compare with how they were, nor how they are now to this mall. Even after all their remodeling none of them have as much skylighting as this one has. Wow the country store place still has its sign, that was gone forever. Yep...memories, I kept visiting this place right up until they closed the doors for good. Still my favorite mall.
I grew up in the late eighties and going to Christiana mall in Delaware was the social spot lol.I was there this past weekend and after gigantic renovations many times and adding to it, it seems to be still flourishing
This is your current masterpiece. Of course you'll do even greater videos but this sums up the dying culture of malls. It's like being in a museum. Always enjoy your videos Anthony
I tuned into dead malls by accident & Dan was the first dead mall video I saw & I absolutely love it I see where you get your inspiration. I didn't realize there were so many dead malls around the country. Too bad you & Dan weren't in Columbus Oh when Northland & City Center Mall shut down I would've loved to see footage of those malls before they closed & was torn down Northland was turned into an office space City Center went through the same transformation.
This Mall is SO BEAUTIFUL!! I love the brightness, the natural light that embellishes the environment. Wish I could have been there back when it was alive with a girl by my side . So sad... :(
thank you so much for this video! I spent my childhood going to this mall (I got my ears pierced at that Claire's when I was in fifth grade!!) and am so sad it's abandoned now. I'm afraid it might get torn down eventually so I'm grateful this video exists - even if the building is demolished, this video will help me to remember what it was like.
Used to go there all the time as a toddler. I pass by the mall all the time to get food or something but it’s kind of depressing to see it abandoned. Since I don’t really remember what it looks like on the inside it was really fun to watch this video
I remember going to this mall on opening weekend. Looks exactly the same as I remember! 2 tier carousel was pretty amazing to see as a kid. I have some pictures of this place from an art contest I was in back in 91- nothing has changed.
It's now a federal fema building . When the Shit hits the fan the mall will be a base of operations for L.E. and FEMA . All of these malls border black neighborhoods , that's no mistake .
I moved due to the crime and hostile blacks at every store and gas stations . it's a hate filled city . No where is safe . If you have nice things the blacks want them and come take them .
Wow! What an amazing mall! There were so many old school stores and logos in there. I totally forgot about world of science and athletic x-press and that old school Claire’s logo! This reminds me of Freehold Raceway Mall, one of my local malls growing up,
This mall looks in pretty good condition. Depending on its location and surrounding area, looks good to turn into apartments and local shops on first floor. maybe something like call center in the anchor spaces..
I remember when that mall first opened! Was a nice one on the other side of town from where I lived, but always had a nice time whenever I made the trip over there. Can't believe the carousel is still in there!
great footage. This is some of the best/last footage of this mall in this ghost town condition, before it started being damaged and looking like a construstion zone. Carousel is even still there. Like the mall was just closed for the day or something. It's kind of erie, In my head this is how it still looks, like I could go there now and it would be open. It doesn't seem like the past even though it's been closed so long. It's just so familiar looking to me. I miss this mall. I can still think of the names of a lot of these store even though the signs are gone. KB Toys, Sbarro, Electronic Boutique, Walden books, The Wall, The Disney Store, McCurdies, Kaufmanns.
A lot of these malls in these dead mall videos are big fancy looking high end places, or were high end places. It's a shame so many of them ended this way. I wish there was some "living mall" videos or some mall success stories. You know malls that were on the brink of closing but pulled out of the nose dive and survived. I guess that doesn't happen often or at all it seems.
I used to go to this mall quite frequently in it's headay. It had some unique stores there. The Science store was one and Northern Reflections. I still own a sweatshirt from that store.
Love your vids, I've been watching them for the last two days!!! I like it when you talk about the place so maybe a bit more of that during the video; maybe mentioning interesting things you see or notable pieces?!
I think it's great you were able to get nice, clear shots of the store fronts. Sometimes it can be hard to see them on videos. Great stuff, I can't wait to see the rest of your channel.
+Ace's Adventures it looks great. You using a phone for this? There is a mall near me I would love to video but big equipment expenditures are out for me right now.
Incredible! It's such a beautiful place; so sad to see it empty! I too have never seen an abandoned mall with the store signs still in place, and the doors to almost everything open. And it hasn't been vandalized! I kept thinking, where are the people? Beautiful carousel too. Subscribed!
Wow I used to go to this mall 2 times a week minimum. Its crazy to see it empty. I hear that its going to be remodeled in to a community center and space for other businesses.
Great footage of a beautiful mall! Man, I would've loved to have been here in person when it was still open. Some of those stores I haven't thought about in a long while! What a shame that it ended up closing, and other malls like it are going under. :(
Markquite Mall opened in 1990 as a successful project but other malls such as Medley Centre Mall, Destiny USA and Mall of America showed up and squeezed some of the stores off the mall but still was successful. It remained so until 2018 when it closed and in 2019 when it demolished.
Wow, I'm astounded at the lack of roof leaks in a mall that has sat unused. The only odd things I saw was removal of floor tiles in a few places. It's also puzzlingly dust free. Are the ventilation systems still in operation?
Can't believe the apparent condition, and how many store signs were left up! 😮 My cousin took over the sports card store there at one point, because of the location, I gave him six months, tops - he managed to keep it going for fourteen!
It's great seeing this mall in such good condition! Thank you for a great video! Was there a movie theater here? It seems like they took great care to preserve it seeing that the live plants were removed and holes covered. One thing I would love to see are the service hallways and back rooms of the stores. Those are parts we never get to see that would be quite interesting. 😉
That's a gorgeous two level carousel like the one on the Erie County Fair that I ride on! At the Boulevard Mall near where I live it had a one level carousel and a food court but the food court closed and got replaced with Dick's Sporting Goods. Now that Sears is closing, I hope they make a new food court.
I haven't been in there for more than 10 years but it still looks familiar. It is odd to see a sign for Kaufmann's though. I thought it was replaced by the Macy's.
great video. I love the style. it is amazing how clean it is. was it completely abandoned or were the anchors open and the mall closed? it closed after Rolling Acres and it is still in a condition that could be reopened with minimal effort.
As a Rochesterian and a 90s nostalgia enthusiast, I really wish I could get into this mall just to check out the old storefronts. Was there a "The Nature Company" storefront that you could see? I thought I might have seen it in this video but couldn't really get a good look.
I grew up for a bunch of years going to that mall in the 80s. The food court did look a little different but not much. The rooms above the food court area was a roller skate park. It was strange compared to the real roller skate park in auburn called reva rollerdrome & your typical skate places designed in a elongated circle. This one was a bunch of rooms split down the middle by bumpers. you skated in one direction through various rooms. The rooms went from one side of the food court over that sort of bridge into the other sides rooms. I always loved the old school vibe of that mall. I usually swing by to check it out every couple years when I go back to visit family. Not sure how many more years it’ll be open due to amazon & online shopping but bass pro has kept it alive albeit barely. I had some good memories there skating & watching movies like Freddy & Jason in the theatre. I’m sure one day it’ll prob be on the abandoned malls UA-cam tours like tons of others.
Holy crap. This mall is still in almost mint condition. The ONLY thing I saw that was ANY sign of decay was that some of the floor panels were missing. While I imagine THIS mall still has seen better days, these days might as well be as good as those days.
I never knew Charlestowne Mall, which I've visited twice, had pretty much the same design(and developer, I assume) as this mall! Great tour, though I clearly see 2 minor differences. One is that it isn't a straight shot from the west to east end(and back) of the mall, and Irondequoit/Medley has what appears to be 2 slight bends to give the illusion of it being a longer hallway than it really is. I'm not sure if there are more storefronts here vs. Charlestowne, but it seems like it might be. Great video! I can't wait to watch part 2 of your Irondequoit Mall walkthrough, a little later. Still have a lot of vids to go, to catch up on your dead mall videos. I just discovered your youtube channel later, than I did Dan Bell. Like I said earlier, you won't be disappointed if you visit the dead Grand Avenue Mall in Milwaukee, or The Orchards Mall in Benton Harbor, MI. You might want to even try the abandoned Lincoln Mall(except for Carson's, which is still open) in Matteson, IL, though I worry from recent youtube videos(and Seph Lawless getting there, I just don't like how he publicizes his pics and videos all over the TV news) that the condition of that place isn't as good as it used to be.
they need to take some lessons to what some malls did in Canada......just convert some of the retails space to either office space or private schools as then you have students coming in to spend in the food court among other places in the mall. The owners of this mall are not being creative.
bizzman4u update! They are doing exactly that but I'm bummed about it. A beautiful mall and piece of history destroy for something so boring. So unfortunate 😢
Was part of it re-purposed? The Sears is all drywalled up like its exterior is still in use by another store while the other anchors appear truly empty.
Thanks for sights like these. I couldn't steel up the nerve to sneak in. If anyone was going to be arrested for trespassing, better you than me! Just kidding. ;-)
I was born in Irondequoit and lived walking distance from that mall. When it opened it had a LOT of promise!! But due to other malls competing with them and supposed crime (it is near the east side of the city of Rochester) but that news may have been exaggerated. A new tenant (not retail but an enclosed large private business office) FINALLY moved into most of the old MACY's and should be all set up by summer 2018. This may have brought hope to this area. There may be a new community center moving in, hopefully. But in the day 1990s, it was a fun mall: Babbages, FYE and nice food court.
This was my childhood mall. I was 9 months old the day it opened in March 1990 and my mom took me to the grand opening. I've read several articles on it from old newspaper clippings, sounded so much fun. Loved the 2 story Santa House at Christmas, my mom has a picture of me and my older sister in front of it at Christmas 1992. The food court, Cindy's Cinnamon Rolls, the glass elevator, Original Cookie, the Carousel, the Disney Store, the slides in the back of the Children's Place . . . I miss it so much!!!!!! They even had the school bus safety fairs in the parking lot.
There were talks of actually converting Medley Center into a residency block. How does one actually convert a mall into an apartment square complex? Especially Irondequoit Mall, with its overhead glass ceiling enclosure?
Excellent video, what a catch! Such a shame to see such a massive space disused and so quiet, if you could pick that mall up and drop it in Devon, UK where I'm based, it would probably do very well as there's no proper malls around here for miles. Was the electricity still on, I heard the usual 60Hz buzz at one point?
That carousel is absolute beautiful !! I don't understand why they don't take it out and sell it to someone , and that little kid play area you think they could take it out and donate it to a childrens hospital or something.
Ps - I was so excited to see the carousel I'd been waiting for at the end , but I wish you had shown more of it . Amazing everything is just how it was left .. Did it smell stuffy in there considering it's never opened ?
didnt smell bad at all, just lots of weird sounds, and i will be doing a part 2 hopefully where i can spend more time, i was a bit rushed, and got as much as i could
I was hoping you would of gone inside the Carousel n take a better video of it and the other kids section, I'm sure their are kids out there that went to this Mall kids section and would like to relive the memories of this beautiful Mall.. This Mall should be converted into Condos apartment or Hotels Rooms and each Store Name would be a home name... I could just visualize it, I think it would be awesome. even make restaurants in it, a theater too.. that would be a awesome living place to live in.... what a shame they letting such a beautiful Mall go to waste when it could become something else..
Sad thing is, you can have one state with some malls in it, and almost all the malls will have been bought by or are owned by the same companies. In Connecticut, it's the Westbrook company, which owns the Post Mall in Milford, the Meriden Square Mall in Meriden, and a string of other properties. They strangle themselves due to not enough competition. The internet and crime around the malls just makes everything worse.
This mall is in my hometown. I use to work there in my ‘20’s. Just watching the tour brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing.
That was pretty cool seeing a KB Toys, Gadzooks, and Ritz Camera. Forgot about some of these stores.
That Lerners storefront!!! I worked at that store in a local mall. The original storefronts are amazing! Great job with the video!
That intro with the TV footage, history, and photos was great! It adds some very interesting context and I'd love to see more of that. Thanks for making these videos!
This Mall is beautiful! So sad it couldn't be revived! Thankyou for another great Video! Keep up the awesome Work! BB! )0(
Beth Cialek welp thanks to Internet shopping not long before all of the malls will be dead
Definitely has an early '90s look to it.
I was here many times when the mall was open, thanks for the flashback.
I remember as a kid going to the Carousal when it first opened. It seemed like it was the premiere mall back in 1990ish.
I went here as a teen all the time back in the mid to late 90's and it was booming packed wall to wall!
Such a sad shame to see the way it was here and in video's of how it is today.

R.I.P. My favorite Mall :( THANK YOU FOR THIS NOSTALGIC TRIP!
It was called "timeout" . Me an my buddies always asked our parents to drop us off so we could play some video games.
This stuff is my porn! Why do I love watching these dead mall videos? They give me the tingles. Worries me a little bit.
Same! So true for me.
Rodney Kingston *Me too. Destruction porn anyone?*

This place was jumpin when I was kid. All the rumors killed it

One of the only Dead Malls to have left the Signage up...This is great and makes it more historical and eerie..
The town and police have been doing a great job keeping tabs on this property compared to other cities. Of course it helps too that this mall is out in the open where everyone can see it from all sides.
A bit puzzled if it was closed due to high crime but it is pristine unlike Rolling Acres what caused this difference?
The poor clientele .... Everyone went to the suburbs because nobody wants to deal with trashy people
Because it's been bought and then sold a couple different times
WOW, just left one of your other Dead Mall ventures where you listed this as your favorite Mall so I ventured right over here. I agree! Although Rolling Hills got a lot of attention, this Mall is actually more beautiful. Love the colors as well. Thanks, Ace! :)

Facts.
Loved that arcade !!!

I lost track of Rochester after I left in 96. Irondequoit was still a safe place to shop, I guess a lot has changed in the last 20 years.
I moved due to the crime and hostile blacks at every store and gas stations . it's a hate filled city . No where is safe . If you have nice things the blacks want them and come take them .

Thank you so much! I was nervous as hell filiming in there but i think it came out ok
+Ace's Adventures it looks great. You using a phone for this? There is a mall near me I would love to video but big equipment expenditures are out for me right now.
K.B Toys! I remember that store ahahaha
I loved going to that Disney Store as a child with my mom! And the science store they also had in that mall!
Identical to the Charlestowne Mall in St. Charles, Illinois. Same builder and same opening time.
Hey, he did that one. You should check it out.
It is, looks like they used the exact same materials to build the places, just changed the layout of the building some!
You can really see it in the fountain area
Is that one closed as well or still alive ?
Are the ventilation systems still in operation?
this mall actually has a lot of water/leakage problems if you watch his newer video on this mall.
Great footage!!Very good condition mall!! liked n Subbd
Just awesome
great video. I love the style. it is amazing how clean it is. was it completely abandoned or were the anchors open and the mall closed? it closed after Rolling Acres and it is still in a condition that could be reopened with minimal effort.
Thank you! Yes its mint, ZERO vandalism
I now know why Irondequiot sounded familiar, its because i live not too far from there!!! So cool!
As a Rochesterian and a 90s nostalgia enthusiast, I really wish I could get into this mall just to check out the old storefronts. Was there a "The Nature Company" storefront that you could see? I thought I might have seen it in this video but couldn't really get a good look.
I bet it feelt like being in the 90's sort of when stayed in the mall.
Another great mall video! Keep up the good work!
Awesome mall I love the fountain!
How do you get the permissions to explore something like this I really want to do a photography shoot in the mall it is very intriguing to me
Wow, this is AMAZING. Is this place just unlocked? So pristine for being closed so long! Just found you today, you have a new fan!
I have never seen one of these dead mall videos where the storefronts are open to go into like in your video.
Was in very good shape. Rolling Acres closed after that and look how bad that is.
Louden Noxious The interior of RAM closed Oct 31, 2008. They list the closing in 2013 because the JCP outlet stayed open that long.
Holy crap. This mall is still in almost mint condition. The ONLY thing I saw that was ANY sign of decay was that some of the floor panels were missing. While I imagine THIS mall still has seen better days, these days might as well be as good as those days.
subscribing cause i love to watch dead malls
Some of our malls have gyms in them, like planet fitness
This was awesome
Buildings like this one, which is actually in my town, tell stories that enduce chills.
Was part of it re-purposed? The Sears is all drywalled up like its exterior is still in use by another store while the other anchors appear truly empty.
Thanks for sights like these. I couldn't steel up the nerve to sneak in. If anyone was going to be arrested for trespassing, better you than me! Just kidding. ;-)
I love explorations like this. You've got yourself a new subscriber, my friend. (On a side note, I'd love to know the name of that intro song.)
They even had the school bus safety fairs in the parking lot.
seems like it was open one day and closed the next. nice mall in great shape
Was this re-uploaded? I swear the song in the intro was a bit faster and higher pitched last time I watched. Was this due to copyright?
There were talks of actually converting Medley Center into a residency block. How does one actually convert a mall into an apartment square complex? Especially Irondequoit Mall, with its overhead glass ceiling enclosure?
Thank you for the honor of us viewing this video.
I use to go to this mall when I was young back in the 90s and early 2000s.
Excellent video, what a catch! Such a shame to see such a massive space disused and so quiet, if you could pick that mall up and drop it in Devon, UK where I'm based, it would probably do very well as there's no proper malls around here for miles. Was the electricity still on, I heard the usual 60Hz buzz at one point?
thank you and cheers from the states!
That carousel is absolute beautiful !! I don't understand why they don't take it out and sell it to someone , and that little kid play area you think they could take it out and donate it to a childrens hospital or something.
This mall was in great condition! Beautiful building. Such a shame!
Ps - I was so excited to see the carousel I'd been waiting for at the end , but I wish you had shown more of it . Amazing everything is just how it was left .. Did it smell stuffy in there considering it's never opened ?
didnt smell bad at all, just lots of weird sounds, and i will be doing a part 2 hopefully where i can spend more time, i was a bit rushed, and got as much as i could
As more of these close around the country each year, what is going to be done with these huge vacant spaces?
would have loved to have seen this one in it's heyday. looks like it would have been really nice.
Keith Holm oh it was great, was my favourite mall. I kinda wanna go inside it. Its within walking distance of where i live
Nice video! Keep them coming! I'm wondering how in the world you got in there. I heard that place is locked up tighter than fort knox.
it is, just the right place at the right time, an extremely rare opportunity, and just for the record, i DID NOT force entry, nor would i ever lol
Doris Rosa was worried about being seen by the windows
Sad thing is, you can have one state with some malls in it, and almost all the malls will have been bought by or are owned by the same companies. In Connecticut, it's the Westbrook company, which owns the Post Mall in Milford, the Meriden Square Mall in Meriden, and a string of other properties. They strangle themselves due to not enough competition. The internet and crime around the malls just makes everything worse.
Similar condition to the newly minted Northridge Mall video in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
That Victoria's Secret at 9:55 omg so amazing!!!!!
Jessica the whole mall is unreal :)
I found this mall on Wikipedia, it was opened only 19 years? what happened to have it so close so soon?
Try to imagine the amount of labor that went into building that joint! The floor tile alone.
That mall is massive. How many sqft of retail space would you guess was in that mall?
Oh, man, a Gadzooks! I haven't seen one of those in years!
Remember JnCos and Kikware?
