I agree with you 100% about getting nostalgic over old architecture. When I see places that were built in the 80's and 90's that haven't changed it brings back memories of my youthful days. I miss the 80's. Thanks for sharing and hope you feel better soon!☺
On a serious note though, great job man. They just keep getting better and better. With Dan Bell doing mostly non dead mall videos now, i'm glad someone else is keeping it alive.
Such a beautiful work of architecture and design. Love seeing malls still in their original look (more or less), even though it's gone so far downhill. Always a shame. I wish I could go to all these places but thank you for your work in documenting these for those of us who can't be there in person!
talk about a time warp with Schuylkill mall love to see places like this. another great video and I enjoy your narrating about the mall it's nice to get a little history on these places
I live roughly 45 mins to an hour away from this mall. I seen this mall go from almost full to vacant in the span of 10-15 years. I think there were a few reasons this mall died. First off the general area and just losing of jobs. Second down the road about 5-10 minutes they built a big plaza with a Wal Mart and Home Depot. Plus there is another pretty full but way smaller mall right close to it as well with a Harbor Freight and a Boscovs. It's sad to see this mall go down the drain. Black Diamond was a good store, they had a Chik Fil' A for the longest time (the only one that used to be in the area) and some decent local stuff as well.
Great video. In 2000 I came all the way from the San Francisco Bay Area to attend PSU Schuylkill. I went to this mall a few times, its so sad to see it empty. When I was there it was very busy and the Bonton was having a great sale. I cant believe its almost been 20 years since I graduated from Penn State UP!!
Thank you so much for doing this mall. It really is a sad place now but love the vintage look to it. And your right about all the deaths lately and now Carrie Fisher and her mom Debbie too.
Love your well informed videos Dan . The history is always very interesting and makes your videos top notch .. All the best in 2017 to you and your team .
My grandparents lived in Hazleton, PA, about 20-30 minutes north of this mall. My parents and I have shopped here before, either going to Hazleton or traveling home to York, PA. I enjoyed your video! And I look forward to future ones! Lots of luck and be safe on your travels! :)
Just hearing tunes through those funky old mono speakers makes me wonder where the hell I am. I never thought a mall could have such a haunting effect.
I've heard from some of my friends back in the Burlington and Florence area that it's basically a real shell of it's former self. Which is really sad because I remember shopping there in my teens and early 20's
1. Nothing came out of the first auction and the mall was pulled from it, I tried to ask around but couldn't get any official information. 2. The Arby's was purchased by another independent franchise after the original franchise closed several locations in the northeast PA area. 3. When the coal mines and factories closed up, this area kept dying. Surrounding towns like Shenandoah have up to 25% vacancy. 4. Up until about two years ago, this mall was holding on. When the Sears left, it was the beginning of the end. I think everyone knows the writing on the wall about this mall, sadly.
Just hit the subscribe button. You do these videos with similar purpose to why I started taking pictures around my hometown. You never know when some of this will disappear and despite today's technology, not everything can be googled. Great videos.
Fantastic video! Seeing your proximity to Canada you should check out the Niagara Square in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There is nothing left in the food court. It's a great example of a vintage mall interior !!
This is an excellent video. I'm originally from PA, not from this area, closer to Philadelphia. For the most part, malls in my area are doing prey well: King of Prussia, Willow Grove, Plymouth Meeting. However, It's sad to see many malls in Pa that are not doing well. These malls are in less populated areas that possibly cannot economically support the malls.
What shocks me is that there used to be easily a dozen Kmarts in the area I live (Illinois' St. Louis suburbs) just 10-20 years ago! After this round of closures is complete, there will ONLY BE ONE LEFT to serve this corner of the St. Louis Metro (which likely has at least a 1/2 a million people at this point), as well as NO MORE THAN 4-5 to serve the rest of the Metro (2.5 to 3 million people)! On the other hand, Sears has yet to shutter any more regular Sears department stores, although both Appliance/Hardware stores outside my house just vanished like magic very recently...
I'm shocked there were working fountains, even though a couple were clearly jerry rigged there was at least one original at the beginning. You never see working fountains, they are usually the first to go.
You should check out the sunvet mall. Whats left of it in long island ny. Holbrook area on sunrise highway inbetween sunrise and veterans hway. Great work keep up the great work
I know I'm becoming a broken record saying this, but your getting better with each new episode you produce. Your choice of locations and editing are really good for video shot from your smartphone. Happy New Year to you as well. Next year I'm sure you will top over 100K subscribers. 👍😉
The Schuylkill Mall is being demolished soon, only Pearl Theater remains open until the end of the year. I believe it's going to become a warehouse/distribution center. Good location for one, considering it's proximity to I-81.
I like watching these videos. I first looked it up when I noticed that I was like 1 of 10 people shopping at the mall and was wondering why the hell it was so dead when it was so alive in my childhood.
The Mom and Pop places are in a way creepier than empty spaces. Just the idea that a small indie store could afford what should be a 'Big Mall pricetag' is quietly worrying. It must be nice for the locals to have that place just as they remember it - till a bulldozer turns up :(
I loved this mall. It was a really nice mall from what i remember when i was little. The main attraction there was the movie theatre. Now we have to drive an hour away to go see a movie.
Hey Ace !!!! Just found your channel !!!! Love your work !!! Been a long time Dan Bell fan and just wanted you to know , in my opinion, you exceed his work !! Never thought I would ever say that !!! Keep it up and thank you for all your hard work !!!
can you come out to Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, PA? that mall has the makings of a dying mall, with two of its three anchors (Sears and Macy's) pulling out by Spring 2017 and only Jcpenney left as an anchor.
Merry Christmas, Anthony! I hope you are feeling better. here are some recommendations. drink herbal tea and lots of it, have soup, and Halls cough drops in a Blue bag. I'm look forward to your Lincoln Mall episode, but please don't upload until your better. your videos are excellent and love the info.
Arby's - Closed due to the franchisee skimming profits.. reopened in 2015. The mall is going back up for sherriff's sale this year. the sale did end last year due to bankruptcy. This was a nice place back in the 80's/90's..
A friend and I always stay at the Holiday Inn near the mall when we visit Knoebels. We've always called the mall "that super creepy death mall" and have never gone in. Though we were always curious what it was like inside.
This is so sad! We were here yesterday and it is so much worse than this. Three stores open, plus the movie theater. The fountains were off and the statue is gone
Thankyou for the Video! Awesome Footage! Hopefully this Mall gets rejuvinated! I heard Burlington Mall in Burlington MA is starting to loose Business. Maybe you can possibly film that?
Beth Cialek While it's possible Burlington Mall in Massachusetts has suffered a mini-exodus recently, I assure you it's doing very well. They have an Apple store, Lord & Taylor and a number of mid to high end stores. It's exactly the kind of mall expected to do well in the 21st century.
I been to that Black Diamond Antique Shop back in August 26th 2015. It felt kind of haunted being in there. Maybe it was the overall atmosphere in Frackville. Plus it was night time and cool. Felt like i was being watched. But then again i get easily spooked =P I was visiting my girlfriend for a week. Only week i ever been in Pennsylvania =( But anyways.
if are looking at dead malls in Huntsville, Alabama. there is a million square mall called Madison Square Mall that might be demolished or revamped. the planed closing was because of crime in the area.
I love your videos! You should go to Great Northern Mall in Clay NY. That mall is almost dead, so sad to see that but it's a small mall but worth a trip to it.
Just so everyone knows: The mall officially closed on August 31, 2017 (just 8 months after this video was shot). The Pearl Theatre 8 may still be open (it had its own separate entrances), but I'm not sure.
thanks for sharing. officially it will be closed within 90 days. i will try to visit it before then but its almost 3 hour drive in the opposite direction of anywhere i would want to go lol
...why are there always FYES still in operation in dying malls? I mean I would think they'd be first to go, everything's so damn expensive in there and nobody buys dvds or cds anymore! Don't get me wrong I love that store but I rarely buy anything when I come across one because everything's priced so high...
I don't why people stopped shopping at malls hell I still go to the mall I did my Christmas shopping at Westfield mall in San Francisco so 2 me malls aren't dead they're dead to people who only shops online I love malls & it's sad to see malls like this go to waste n get demolished so dead malls are fascinating to me
please come to are dieing mall called east Hills mall in Bakersfield California. it is a gohst town the only thing keeping it alive is the movie theater. it may not be there much longer as someone just brought it. it was built in the 80 and it is like stepping back in time. look up on yelp and Google.
Eric Eckman my local news channel 23 eye witness news has a you tube channel and they did a video and said a local Investers buy it. they will reveal plans for the mall next year. I thank turning it into an outlet mall would be a good idea. the mall starting dieing when the 3 anchors went out of business at the same time. I hope someone does a video of it.
you and Dan bell have the best quality dead mall videos I seen so far on UA-cam.
I agree with you 100% about getting nostalgic over old architecture. When I see places that were built in the 80's and 90's that haven't changed it brings back memories of my youthful days. I miss the 80's. Thanks for sharing and hope you feel better soon!☺
"The Schuykill mall, we're better than ever, we're better than ever for you!"
TheBigj777 singing it now :)
On a serious note though, great job man. They just keep getting better and better. With Dan Bell doing mostly non dead mall videos now, i'm glad someone else is keeping it alive.
TheBigj777 If you like REALLY dead malls, check out my videos. I've been to 2 abandoned malls and one dead mall.
Oh god now that song is in my head again LOL.
Mr Sprite this is basically "this dan bell"
Such a beautiful work of architecture and design. Love seeing malls still in their original look (more or less), even though it's gone so far downhill. Always a shame. I wish I could go to all these places but thank you for your work in documenting these for those of us who can't be there in person!
The videos just get better. I look forward to every new one that comes up, thanks for these!
Love your work and already looking forward to your next video! Thank you!
Love these videos - I think you do great work! Have a great New Year's!
talk about a time warp with Schuylkill mall love to see places like this. another great video and I enjoy your narrating about the mall it's nice to get a little history on these places
My favorite store at this mall was Chess King. Anyone remember them? Great 80's clothes!
It's weird how in the 40's people ordered from catalogs, malls opened in the 70's, now with the web it's like everyone is back to catalogs again.
I live roughly 45 mins to an hour away from this mall. I seen this mall go from almost full to vacant in the span of 10-15 years. I think there were a few reasons this mall died.

Great video I have spent HOURS watching all the vids you have out keep them coming !!
I love your work. This mall reminds me of the mall in Dubois pa.
Thank you so much for doing this mall. It really is a sad place now but love the vintage look to it. And your right about all the deaths lately and now Carrie Fisher and her mom Debbie too.
I find these dying malls and businesses kinda depressing.
Black Diamond Antiques is gone? I really enjoyed my visit there last year. Yes, the mall was quite bare, but we enjoyed it anyway. Love your video!
Love your well informed videos Dan . The history is always very interesting and makes your videos top notch .. All the best in 2017 to you and your team .
Randi S i am NOT dan bell
lol
Randi S
Not sure if this comment is self aware or not lol
Yes i like dan

I'm Canadian and I'm blown away at how long some structures in the US stand empty and abandoned for. Such a shame.
Remember Montgomery Wards? R.I.P.
Nice video! Do the Burlington Center Mall in Burlington Township, New Jersey!
I've heard from some of my friends back in the Burlington and Florence area that it's basically a real shell of it's former self. Which is really sad because I remember shopping there in my teens and early 20's
Dan Bell did a video at that mall, including the elephant fountain.
Great video, I really like the fountains.

Late 80's/early 90's mall music. Brings back lots of memories!!

Carolina Santos thank you!!
yeah you definitely came a long way in editing, I love watching your videos
Dan Bell mimicking the jingle after the advert ended and seeing this now has me chuckling a bit.
Nice video. I know Jamestown well. I spend a lot of time in the Salamanca area (Little Valley). Keep up the good work!!
thank you for making these videos. it's really nice to see things that I can relate to my childhood your filming is awesome
I'm shocked there were working fountains, even though a couple were clearly jerry rigged there was at least one original at the beginning. You never see working fountains, they are usually the first to go.
Keep them coming!
You should check out the sunvet mall. Whats left of it in long island ny. Holbrook area on sunrise highway inbetween sunrise and veterans hway. Great work keep up the great work

Hess's also briefly became Bon Ton. They moved from their original location, to the former Hess's, then moved back to where they were most recently.
The Schuylkill Mall is being demolished soon, only Pearl Theater remains open until the end of the year. I believe it's going to become a warehouse/distribution center. Good location for one, considering it's proximity to I-81.
Id love to see you do videos at some of the different resorts in the Poconos 🙏🏼
I like watching these videos. I first looked it up when I noticed that I was like 1 of 10 people shopping at the mall and was wondering why the hell it was so dead when it was so alive in my childhood.
You sound fine. I have been battling something myself. Great video!
An early case of Covid maybe
Also, what is the name of the intro song starting at 0:45 ?

Love that mall, was there last Friday
I loved this mall. It was a really nice mall from what i remember when i was little. The main attraction there was the movie theatre. Now we have to drive an hour away to go see a movie.

USA factor outlets..!! WORST retail store Ever !! Thanks for the upload !!
Hey Ace !!!! Just found your channel !!!! Love your work !!! Been a long time Dan Bell fan and just wanted you to know , in my opinion, you exceed his work !! Never thought I would ever say that !!! Keep it up and thank you for all your hard work !!!
Bernard Demski thank you!!
Ace's Adventures the gallery mall in Philadelphia
With every video, he gets better and better!
Sears and Kmart were anchors? that wasn't a good omen.
Yeah, but also Hess (a regional store sort of like Macy's)
and the Bon Ton
wild bill I don't mind Kmart in malls, but when they're owned by the same company, there's problems.
They were put in there when they were two different stores in the 80's.
They merged in 2003 I think. The worst retail blunder in history.
2005 - but yes, huge mistake.
can you come out to Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, PA? that mall has the makings of a dying mall, with two of its three anchors (Sears and Macy's) pulling out by Spring 2017 and only Jcpenney left as an anchor.

The outside curving brick structure is similar to the Wayne Hills Mall in Wayne, NJ
NorthPark mall in Dallas has all of its original 60s architecture, though it is far from dead.
UPDATE: the mall is going to be demolished in January
wow I see an FYE in the background
Big one too.
Crow Migration lol yeah we are in the DME group together on Facebook :-)
It closed recently.
No, it is still open. For now. Major discounts going on
I found that out today from a friend
Good video. Interesting.
Arby's - Closed due to the franchisee skimming profits.. reopened in 2015.

the vaporwave adds a certain weird and creepy touch to it lol

But anyways.
Was there a few times in 2009. Helped a Church do concerts at the mall.
if are looking at dead malls in Huntsville, Alabama. there is a million square mall called Madison Square Mall that might be demolished or revamped. the planed closing was because of crime in the area.
The mall was sold a month or two ago and all the stores have to be out by august I believe.
I love your videos! You should go to Great Northern Mall in Clay NY. That mall is almost dead, so sad to see that but it's a small mall but worth a trip to it.
glad to know about your mission to document these malls
Just so everyone knows: The mall officially closed on August 31, 2017 (just 8 months after this video was shot). The Pearl Theatre 8 may still be open (it had its own separate entrances), but I'm not sure.
Businesses were told to be out by end of May 2017.
Was part of my childhood. :(
I haven't had much opportunity to see a dead mall in Canada because it seems like the malls here are constantly going through renovations.
Love these dead mall videos
You should hit the Beaver Valley Mall, outside Pittsburgh. Its the mall of my child-hood, and, soon to be an ex-mall, sadly.
you should do Crossroads Mall in Omaha, NE bud
What's the name of the song at the end of your video ?
awesome
They have closed at the 8th of October 2017. RIP MALL...
Ace, you should do Marion centre mall. Marion, Ohio.
Update: Tenants received notice today that they have 60 to 90 days to vacate stores before this mall closes for good.
You NEED to visit Chapel Hill Mall in Akron Ohio! may not be here in a year.
I see you boss... Archaeology....
thanks for sharing. officially it will be closed within 90 days. i will try to visit it before then but its almost 3 hour drive in the opposite direction of anywhere i would want to go lol

Jerome Shelton I never go to the mall anymore. It's mostly just a bunch of annoying kids there anyway who aren't there to actually buy things.
As a heads up, Schuylkill Mall is spelled wrong in the title.
esw01407 wow ty i totally missed that
The blue ceiling used to be a burnt Orange color. It looked way better.
I know this is an old video, but the mall is all gone now as of like 2 weeks ago they knocked down the last part of Kmart. 😔
whats funny is that a new fye jsut opened up in the mall but fye came and goen in our mall like 3-4 times lol
So sad to see malls close down for stupid town centers. I prefer a mall to town centers for sure
great vid! whats the music?
Find your way to the Indiana, PA mall if you want to be in a time warp!
It's Really Kevin He was already there.
Nice! Looks like about 6 months ago! Thanks!
Well done Anthony!
I wish someone would do the Whitehall Mall in Whitehall and South Mall in Salisbury Twp
K-Mart is your rip-off store....
Go in rich and come out poor...
Any kid of the 80s has got to remember that parody!!
Can you do military circles mall as dead mall. In Norfolk va.
I’m a little late to this video but I️ live close to this mall and this is the only place we have to watch movies
please come to are dieing mall called east Hills mall in Bakersfield California. it is a gohst town the only thing keeping it alive is the movie theater. it may not be there much longer as someone just brought it. it was built in the 80 and it is like stepping back in time. look up on yelp and Google.
Heard the reason why the owner de caired -bankruptcy was to keep the place opened
Eric Eckman it went up for sale this year and someone just brought it said they will reveal plans for the mall next year.
Bobby and Dana Majors do you know who bought it??
Bobby and Dana Majors and that would be nice too
Eric Eckman my local news channel 23 eye witness news has a you tube channel and they did a video and said a local Investers buy it. they will reveal plans for the mall next year. I thank turning it into an outlet mall would be a good idea. the mall starting dieing when the 3 anchors went out of business at the same time. I hope someone does a video of it.
when I was a kid back then this mall I was pop around
