    R50 gang, subbed for the most underrated 4x4 out

      That's what I like to hear! Can't wait to find its limits :)

    When remove the back seats and have the 2 bolts , put them back in the holes so not to lose them, may eventually need again. In tail gate area remove the tie down brackets put them in area under the carpet. Adding a few pieces of 2x4 for legs would be much nicer to hold weight. So So true that huge amount of storage under platform.. nice job and thanks for showing an easier build on Pathfinders.

      Thanks for the tips and kind words!!! I ended up using some excess plywood to make the new supports in the back, I show them in my Salt Spring camping video from June :)

    I'm in dilemma. I can either bay an '01 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 with 149k miles or an '02 Nissan Pathfinder LE 3.5 V6 4x4 with 156k miles. The 4Runner is in great condition with newer tires and I can get it for like $9k and the Pathfinder is in good condition with newer tires for $5.5k.... What do you or anyone reading think I should get? I'm not a crazy off roader or anything. I would use it on the road 90% of the time.

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  Рік тому

      Hmm that is quite the dilemma! I might be biased, but I think the Pathfinder is the better buy between the two. You could put a lot of work into with the $4.5k you save, and I'm guessing the LE has a lot more features than the SR5. Also that Nissan 3.5L makes a lot more power than the 4Runner's V6, just saying!
      I'd say go for the Pathfinder unless you like the 4Runner more and can get it for less than $9k haha.

    awesome video thanks so much! you don´t have the measurements of your wooden plates by any chance?

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  Рік тому

      Hi Rebecca, if you're still interested in the measurements, here they are! The rear 'table' piece is 4x3 feet, the middle piece is 4x2 feet, and the front piece which goes by the front seats is 4x1 feet. I made it using a 3/4" 4x8 foot piece of plywood. The whole platform ends up being 4x6 feet when in the vehicle.

    what would be the bed length leaving the rear seat bottoms in? for people under 6’ tall, thanks for this video and the dimensions, it’s the only place i could find it. also which exaxt model pathfinder is it? i think i saw some models of this generation pathfinder are 178”, some are 183”. thanks

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  5 місяців тому

      Just measured, looks like about 64-65” with the seat bottoms in. Hmm I wasn’t aware of that! Mine seems to be about 175” which I guess would be the shorter one.

    sick pathfinder. im looking at an '03 for 7k and really thinking of pulling the trigger and making a platform like you have

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! They're great vehicles for sure, but $7k does seem a little steep unless it has really low mileage, maybe try talking them down? Also, keep in mind that the 01-04 models have the VQ35DE engine which makes WAYY more power than mine (240hp vs ~165), but they are less reliable and more prone to burn oil.
      Let me know how it goes!

      Are all Pathfinders 4WD? That's what I thought when I bought a QX4 (basically an Infiniti Pathfinder) but I ended up with a 2WD.

    Is the floor really level without the platform? Looks like the seat backs ramp up at a slight angle? Thanks

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  2 роки тому

      It's pretty close to level, but not quite. You're right that the back seats sit at a bit of an angle. I slept on it before I made the platform and it was very comfortable.

    Thanks for showing us how easy it is to remove the bottom seat cushions. Have you tried moving the passenger front seat all the way forward so that you don't have to sleep on an angle?

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  3 роки тому

      Glad I could help! Yeah, I usually fold it forward because it's nice to put my pillow on and I don't need to slide it forward.

    what is the actual space (to sleep) in inches between the back of the front seat and the back hatch? i cant find it anywhere online fsr

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  3 роки тому

      I can take some measurements and get back to you. You want the length from of the floor? My platform is 6ft and is pressed between the front seats and hatch so the floor is probably only a couple inches longer than that.

  • @theshreditor625

    Grab some metal L brackets for your legs. I did that and there very sturdy they wouldn’t bent how yours did

    • @TotalOutdoorsBC
      @TotalOutdoorsBC  3 роки тому

      Good idea! I can't remember if I explained this in the video, but I'm planning on replacing the legs with plywood ones that run the length of the "table" piece. It would allow me to mount drawer sliders there if I decide to one day, and hopefully be really strong. I might get L brackets to reinforce those though.
