Thanks man, great review. Just about to order one now! 🤟
Great review, very nicely done. Love the guitar 🎸.
Gorgeous colour and finish. Just ordered a SC-Custom II in silver burst, cant wait till it comes :D
thanks for the full around review! I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio which I adore and this may be my 2nd guitar.... want it mostly for Eb tuning Slash style through my blackstar ID15 TVP.
Looks great, sounds great... nice vid. The Amber color seems to vary by batch. My SC-550 in Paradise Amber Flame is towards the yellow end and this one is towards the orange end. They all look good. I have an SC-Custom in Honey Burst that has no coil tap/split and has Wilkenson PUPS. I think the bridge is like 14.5K ... closing in on active electronics territory. I have the SC-550 in Tobacco Burst as well, and they are the lowest output of the three. They all sound good, and all i changed were the tuning keys, from the very long stemmed stock keys to Grover Deluxe. The holes needed to be expanded by about 20%.
And all of the electronic chambers are shielded with graphite paint. Well done! The only thing I did after buying SC-Custom II Paradise Flame Satin was oiling the fingerboard and changing strings to my favourite pack of Ernie Balls. Aaaaand it was ready for action! Greetings from Poland / Emil @ BONImedia netlabel
Sweet jam!
Thx for the video. The colour of Your guitar really seems to look like on the Thomann page. That is great. Mine looks more yellowish than redbrown.
Well done! And oh boy... i really have to start practicing again 🙈
Your playing is getting a lot better brother, keep it up
Thanks for saying that. Means a lot.
@@BasementGAS Getting better yes. Opinion seconded.
Ik heb een Harley Benton SC Custom II vintage Black made in Indonesie en ik heb hem nu een maand. Wel ik ben er super tevreden over ZEER VEEL GITAAR VOOR WEINIG GELD
A very nice top on this guitar, imagine what it would look like with a gloss finish! Thanks for sharing!
Playing is getting better mate. Especially in the intro song. May have to pick one of these up.
Thanks Llama!
@@BasementGAS Price for shipping to down under is a real bummer though :'(
@@lieutenant-llama6950 How much?
130 euro. Not the worst though. Might still get one when they get more in stock. Already have an ldt eclipse though...
In aud was basically 2/3 the cost of the guitar
Nice hat!
Changed the pickups on my two, those Roswell LAFs just don't cut it.
Just discovered your channel - fantastic, informative and honest videos. Been playing for 15 years, had a myriad of guitars over the years, but Its because of your vids I've just purchased a Harley Benton strat, potentially put few upgrades into it see how it goes.
Any recommendations of what would be good to change/upgrade?
Thanks!
Tuners and nut are always a quick and easy fix to increase tuning stability. Pickups would be the next thing but I think the Roswells always sound pretty good.
Thanks for the support.
Tool army yeah!
Nice 👍
hi, can somebody tell me please if this guitar does have a switch off volume ? thanks
Wow stunning guitar for that price point. Anything silver bursty in your possession, yet? 😬
Excellent review, Jack! I just came across your channel and after watching this review and your Harley Benton Gold Top Classic review, I'm a believer/subscriber. Thanks for taking the time to provide such in-depth reviews of so much gear. QUICK QUESTION: The sound of the Gold Top was exactly what I've been looking for in my next guitar, but I also appreciate the modern features of the Custom II. Was the sound difference due to different amps being used between the two videos or was it due to different pickups and slightly different bodies of the guitars? In other words, can you get the Custom II to sound like the Gold Top did in your video? THANKS
They both sound different due to pickups and body size/depth. If you're going for more of the classic Les Paul tone go with the Goldtop. I personally prefer the Custom but it has more of a modern sound. Both sound amazing though. Although I do prefer the heavy chunky body of a classic single cut guitar. Plus the satin gold finish is brilliant looking.
Thanks for your support.
@@BasementGAS thanks for clarifying and the prompt response! The gold top is currently sold out, but I'm definitely grabbing one once it becomes available again.
Ur playing has improved a lot since the last time I saw one of ur videos, nice job! This is the best sc custom review I've seen so far. U should also check out the sc 550. I'm doubting between the 550 tobacco burst and the custom vb with the floyd because of it's unbeatable value and versatility, any thoughts?
Really depends. Do you use a Floyd a lot? I'm not a Floyd person so I can't really say which is better. The 550s are really nice though.
Thanks for your compliments. Always appreciated 😊
@@BasementGAS it would be my first floyd guitar but who knows. The other thing that the custom has and the 550 doesn't is the coil split. But the 550 it is supposed to be more of a real les paul than the custom... Tough decision
@@alvaroruizruiz7538 Well the good thing is that you always have the 30-day return guarantee. So maybe try the Floyd one out and see if it's right for you. Otherwise send it back.
Hello! Should I overpay 2x for a used LTD EC 401? Or order this guitar and install other pickups?
The pickups are comparable to Epiphone es 339 pro so what pickups do you want to install on this guitar?
I got mine but one volume knob is not turning smooth and there is a huge diff in pickup volume when both are at max. I hope I dont have to send it back it seems like a hard thing to miss when doing quality control. So well, my first HB and I am not really pleased. It feels good though playing and it stays in tune but I kind of feel like they already tried messing with it as the cover plates at the back have been scratched and thus look like they have been removed. It makes it look used to be honest. No, I am not quite happy.
Sold! Just picked one up based on your vid. Thanks. Some of them look redish, some orangish. What's the real world shade of yours?
I want one of these in vintage black :) I'm still working on my wife. 2 more slots in my guitar stand - doesn't seem right not to use them. Perhaps a DC Custom as well - shame it's not in black tho.
Just got a black one
@@quagmiremusic6250 Nice. What do you think of it? The good and bad?
@@yetigoosecreature8682 it’s a great guitar, loving it, really nice to play, lovely low action
@@quagmiremusic6250 Good to hear. I've never really taken to LP shaped guitars, but the SC Custom looks amazing. I'm waiting for my PG Spark amp to arrive to keep me going for now, and will work on getting the SC Custom in the new year. ;)
@@yetigoosecreature8682 get ya self a Katana, love my Katana
hey, I'm wanting to get one of those sc custom II's, I heard that one problem is the neck dive? Can you please reply if that's true, is it a big neck dive or not noticeable? thanks in advance
It's a bit of a neckdive. Similar to an LTD guitar because of the thin body. But nothing like an SG dive.
@@BasementGAS so would you say that it hurts your playing or....havent played ltd but i have heard of sg huge neck dive
@@ivanostric3178 it's noticable but it doesn't hurt your playing. If you get yourself a good strap there should be no issue.
@Basement GAS: Hast Du die Gitarre noch? Wenn ja, würdest du sie ggf. verkaufen. Ich suche genau noch einer solchen Version, die auch wirklich so Rot-Braun aussieht, wie auf der Webseite von Thomann.
Great tune at the first. I'm really considering one of the new sc they just released with emg pickups. Do you still like the guitar?
Thanks. Still loving the guitar. I saw the ones with the EMGs. Maybe I should've waited a bit longer 😅
@@BasementGAS who knows, I might end up putting other pickups in it. I like a more classic sound. I have an se prs that comes from the same factory I'm about to pull the trigger I believe.
Can confirm. At least my Ltd is crap versus my HB SC custom ii. My Ltd is crap either way really lol
hast du noch die SH4 oder SH6 in dein guitar Gibson?
Mittlerweile wieder die SH4
I'm a bit salty that my sc custom doesn't have that improved upper fret access. But it's still pretty easy to play. And I paid 251€ for the floyd version so.. Yeah I'll just choose to not bitch about it. These new finishes are great as well. Especially this one you got.
Nothing wrong with that matte black finish. Also beautiful.
@@thehound2161 Yeah mate. Even if I had all these options (with the floyd), I would've still went with this one. Because my roots are in metal and I'm all about black + gold.
Where you been? 😊
Here are there. There and back again. Mordor. You know the usual places.
zebra pickups typically have white on the outside... hope they didn't flip these guys accidentally? great review
I don't think so. Doesn't sound like they are out of phase or anything like that. And the highs and lows sound find so I think we're all good
By design.
LOve the guitar. On a silly note: That wide-angle lens makes the guitar look VERY problematic. LOL
Harley Benton Uber alles.
Harley Benton=all in one device for every purpose [germanwise: "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau"
...you have a serious case of BAT ;) nananananana...
Bro should i get sc-550 or sc custom?? Which one you prefer
The 550 is more of a traditional full body single cut and the custom is a more modern take on the Les Paul - similar to what ESP produce. Really depends on what your preferences are. I enjoy both but lean more towards a traditional style. I prefer the full weight.
@@BasementGAS thank you brother.. My kind of genre is pop punk and post hardcore.. So i go for the SC CUSTOM?
@@robsonhaha0108 Sounds like a good choice!
@@robsonhaha0108 The Active White looks pretty sweet and has active pickups which might suit your genre.
@@BasementGAS ok bro thanks.. I already have active pickups for the hb progressive line sc-1000
P.S. Here is a photo of my Paradise Flame looks like: www.zupimages.net/up/20/47/3mor.jpg Do You have some photos, too?
coil split😀
Sounding kinda Tool-esque here
Thank you ;-)
You all deal with HB processing. That's at a pretty good level today. But nobody solves the sound of HB guitars. LTD and other brands sound much better and that's important to say! Low price = cheap sound.
Would have to agree with you there. I just bought my first Charvel guitar (Duplantier signature) for around €500 (b-stock but in amazing condition) and it sounds and plays better than some of my really expensive Gibsons. It's become my go-to guitar for recording. Absolutely amazing.
Haha not a chance...
Owned the custom and custom ii - only difference between the two is the custom ii has a push pull.
I also own the ltd ec1000 and there is a massive difference in everything, build, quality, hardware etc
The Roswells are OK for a beginner guitarist given the guitar is budget. Any bog standard guitar will sound decent through a good amp or computer, but you can’t beat a decently built guitar with Seymour Duncans.
I hated the SC Custom for the quality element and yes it’s a budget guitar but the buzz across the whole guitar and frets were levelled, nut was poorly cut, binding was a mess, chips to the finish... and it wasn’t b stock.
I gave Harley Benton a try, just never got on with it.
I have six of them and aside from dry fretboards and scratchy frets.. that after 15 min of playing or a polish are good. Zero neck adjustments.. but i did mess with the intonation, and height of the bridge on all of them... simply because i tinker with everything. They all came without flaws and i will be keeping them all. I would indeed put Duncan's in most of them, but then i am spending a decent % of money with perspective to total cost, when the purpose was not to. I waited 10 days on my longest delivery to the U.S.
