smacznego! My Slovak grandmother and Polish aunts made Poppyseed and nut rolls all the time, but I never learned to make Poppyseed rolls and I made nut rolls only a few times. This looks delicious! Your videos really give good tips... even the unspoken tips I get from just watching how you do it.
I haven’t had this since I was in my 20s.Babci made it, but didn’t speak English well, and had difficulty sharing her Recipes. Thank you for sharing this recipe with me.
I bought 2 of your cookbooks (1 for my husband and 1 for his mother). I really like watching you cook the recipes, it helps me a lot with the techniques. Yes, they are the polish ones, and I am the Scottish one doing the polish cooking. Thank you for your channel.
I just received my cook book package, I ordered all three of them. The books are beautifully bound & the photos are gorgeous!..🥰🤩🥳 I am very excited to start cooking & baking all the foods from my childhood! Thank you & God bless you & your family! 🙏🙏🥰🥰😘😘😘
growing up, a neighbor made the most delicious Makowiec, I loved to separate the layers and eat it from the inside out. This makes me nostalgic for the good old days.
Love the new kitchen, love the new recipe. Looks like the stand mixer could use a slight adjustment. Please put Mark to work on that bouncing mixer adjustment. Simple to do. 😂
Omg thank you for coming back and making cooking videos!!!!!!! I will always be grateful to this channel, you taught me how to cook so ty, idc if ur cutting up carrots and celery for dipping in ranch i will always stay loyal to the channel ty again. Just please keep making cooking vids love from vegas!!!!
This was my dad’s favorite dessert. My grandmother never made it, but we frequently bought it from the Polish bakery in Elizabeth, New Jersey. So glad to watch you make it.
I remember my mom making this and with almond paste filling, which was my favorite. Maybe one day I'll try to make it. Thank you for sharing your recipes with us and showing us how it's done. :D
This is my favorite Polish “special occasion” food. Controlling the starter and proofing temperature helps ensure you get the same product each time. If you have a food dehydrator that you can set at 110°F (or 43°C)… perfection. And do lots of filling!
Adding lemon juice to the poppyseed mixture brings the flavour to a new level. Poppyseed filling was also used in Roshki cookies that added variety to the ground walnut filling used in the roshki.
My husband and I will be visiting Krakow in May and I am looking forward to the foods to try and shopping for the poppyseeds in the local market. Thank you for all the wonderful foods and the adventures around Poland.
Beautiful recipe. Mark is a great camera man! I love that he asks extra questions that might come up while one may be baking this at home. I've made things from recipes before and wished the recipe specified salted or unsalted butter...it can make a big difference sometimes! Another lovely video, Anna. Thank you
I just received a gift from a neighbor. She got it for me and my wife for Christmas because she knew I am Polish. The box has kolachi (spelling on the box) written on it. It is a poppy seed roll. It is delicious. I can't find anything with that spelling. Other spelling is kolache and shows Slovakian and or Czech origin.
Makowiec uwielbiam...
I love the new kitchen ! One of my favorites for the holidays or anytime. I like to put good butter on it while it's still warm. Also using a walnut mix for the filling, same dough recipe. So glad you're back, I miss my friends.
Made these rolls a couple years ago per your recipe from my copy of Polish Your Kitchen. Used Helios poppyseed spread and they were magnificent! Brought back so many memories from Babcia’s home.
I did find Helio Masa Makowa poppy seed filling on Amazon but not just ground poppy seeds. I don't have a grinder attachment 🙁so I might try this filling instead. Expensive!
I made this for Easter. There was so much that I put some in the freezer. The week after it took some to a birthday party. Many polish people were present and they love it. They didn't believe I made it. It tasted great, a bit of a split but who cares. It all about the taste.i will be picking another recipe to cook for my polish husband. Maybe pierogi next time.
Glad to see a cooking video! I’ve made this before from your recipe and it is delicious! The poppy seeds can be hard to get in such large quantities, and yes, mail-order is your friend here. My Russian wife and daughter loved this roll. My wife said the poppy seeds weren’t as flavorful as you can get in Europe, but it was still a knock-out.
My dad used to make this at Christmas. He called it povatista (Sp?) bread. A friend who is also Polish made it one year and called it Christmas bread...
My Matka loved this cake. She would make it during Christmas and Easter. As she got older and couldn’t use her hands so much because of arthritis we used to buy it for her from a local Polish bakery and her eyes would light up with such joy. Thank you for the memory. I also want to buy your book for nieces who always ask me for recipes for my Mom soups, stuffed cabbage pierogies etc. Which cookbook would you recommend first out of the three?
That looks amazing, but I won’t try this recipe, because I don’t need to! You see,I have the greatest neighbor ever. She’s in her 80’s,and she makes poppy seed rolls that are pure heaven,as I’m sure yours is also. Her zucchini bread is downright legendary, too! But I enjoyed watching this video very much, thank you!
THANK YOU!!! I make the Slovak version of this from my Gramma's recipe but they always seem to burst on the seam. I'm going to use your parchment paper method and see if this fixes it.
Can the poppy seeds be ground in dry form and then soaked and cooked? I have poppy seeds they're quite tiny but I think in my spice grinder I could grind them fairly fine and then soak them and boil them. Just curious if you know how that would work.
As a student, I used to work in a delicatessen; we sold poppy seeds that we would grind on request. [These days, due to a large change in migrant demographics, it is harder to find poppy seeds and forget about any store with a grinder.]
There are a lot of Amish and Mennonites in the area I live in and so there are several bulk food stores around and I can usually get poppy seeds at a reasonable price in bulk form which means high stick them in my freezer then to keep them fresh. I like to keep them on hand especially for poppy seed chicken. I will be trying this grinding them in my spice grinder and then soaking them
I like poppy seed cake, but I prefer a poppy seed cake in which the poppy seed mass dominates the cake, covered with chocolate and served cold from the fridge.
Yay ! for new recipe. They turned out so perfect, omg I want some. Mark is a lucky guy.
We need a tour of the new house :)
A favorite for Wigilia! I like the parchment paper trick! Wesolych swiat! 🎄🎅🎄
Your new kitchen looks great. So much more room for you to create your magic.
Congratulations on the new house.

So good to see you back in the kitchen. My mouth was watering watching this. I ordered your cookbook .
Great to see a new video. Looks good 👍.
You are amazing. I am married to a Polish guy for 45 years. I’ve made poppy roll but your dough is much better. ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I love your channel, I remember my grandmother making something similar called nut roll, walnut, gram crackers, and brown sugar filling.
Nice to see you back. When do we get a tour of your new home? Also we hope to see more kitchen closed. My wife also from same town.
woow finally a video will make it n yes how about a house/kitchen your 😊

Thank you, Anna, and Mark, too!

I make nut rolls and one time I made one poppy seed mixture for my friend from Germany

Thank you for bringing back memories of my Nona's poppy seed roll. I sure miss her cooking and baking.

Learning about the poppy seeds hydration and I have the kitchen aid attachment 👍🏼
Made these rolls a couple years ago per your recipe from my copy of Polish Your Kitchen. Used Helios poppyseed spread and they were magnificent! Brought back so many memories from Babcia’s home.
I have made this many times, but not with dry poppy seeds. I will try this. Love your kitchen,
Thank you for this video. I need to bake with yeast more and so I will be making this Poppyseed Roll soon. Lovely kuchnia
Dzieki za wspanialy przepis na makowiec. Zdecydowanie go upieke.

That’s so sweet. I’d recommend the „Polish Your Kitchen, My Family Table”.

Welcome back ❤
Oh I can’t wait to try this. I love poppy seed. Yum. Thank you for sharing.
Great video! This was my Mom’s favourite ♥
Thank you for the great tips. Love makoviec and maybe the next one I make will come out perfect.
Wow look at that kitchen. Glad your back. FYI I sent you and Mark an email.
Oh, that is pretty
I. buy poppy seed already processed.. It comes in a can from Solo

Thanks for the recipe...
I'm going to make this.

I miss seeing your cooking videos. Are you thinking about making any new ones that would be wonderful ❤
HELLO! Do you have a video for nut rolls?
Love the poppy seed can't have it though.
Do you have a recipe for nut filling?
Yum! my Polish gramma used butter, cream and sugar only in her poppyseeds. Is that a regional difference?
I have a Vita mix, would that work for grinding the poppy seeds?
I think maybe with a bit of water (you can cook it off later in the pan).
How far is Krawkow.?.
Could I use this dough for nutrolls?
Absolutely 👍🏻
smacznego
Could you "grind" the seeds in a food processor if you don't own a grinder?
Perhaps with a bit of water, I think a good blender could handle that.
❤
😊

I never tried that, but would be curious to know your results.

Wow, I just attempted to order your book. The shipping is 2/3rds of the book price. guess I'll have to live without it ..... bummer.
Yeah, unfortunately shipping from Poland is quite expensive. Perhaps an ebook is a good option for you. Thanks for your support! 😊
💝YUM💝
I like poppy seed cake, but I prefer a poppy seed cake in which the poppy seed mass dominates the cake, covered with chocolate and served cold from the fridge.
Just the same as my dear mama used to make.
Sadly the mass produced poppy seed cake I buy in the UK no the same flavour far to sweet.
I do not subscribe if the recipe is not easly available.
Babcia had a heavy metal grinder that we attached to the kitchen table, that is now mine. 🍥
Definitely not too much filling. 🤎
