I’m glad that the Gerudos home deserts like all deserts have life no matter how barren they look sometimes I believe Twinrova was just the final nail that made Ganondorf evil aside from Demise’s curse.
Like I always saw him as the Random bad guy who did bad because yes like bowser, but him being petty not just from his own reasons but from what happened to his people really makes me see him as a tragic villian. someone so Caught up in Venegace and Envy he's blind to his own Race's success despite their harsh land. That he finnally sees his own envy isn't making Anything, its just getting in the way of his people's development, so he has a choice: keep making the same mistake and be beaten by the same Elf boy over and over, pushing his people away even more each time. Or choice to let go of a grudge that just hurts many, and adapt like they did, Become just as strong as they are and grow with them. Maybe even use his own minions to expand the Gerudos into an even higher plain of positive domanition. I hope after Years of doing the same thing over and over Ganon finally chooses to change and give up a petty squable, that he can rest and new villian can appear to mix things up. Or Legend Zelda ends with it since it feels like a worthwhile ending, The villian you've been fighting for decades Comes to overcome their own flaws in how they saw their world. I guess well see what decision Nintendo chooses.
Honestly, the whole game is about adaptability. Even with a near apocalypse 100 years ago, Hyrule and it's people still manage to cling to life and thrive. As one girl in the Dueling Peaks stable says "Peaceful places like this make you almost forget that the world ended years ago." Unrelated, but I think I play this game too much.
Deserts get a bad rep in video games. They can be bland worlds but so many of them are amazing and beautiful locations. Gritzy Desert, Originull Wasteland, and especially especially Torna. All amazing locations that use its setting really well.
In OoT Ganon fights like his grandmas and he’s dressed like a Hylian. His default state is a weeb witch, but in WW he dual wields scimitars like a Gerudo. I think he’s just depressed that every time he wins some magic bs steals it away.
Oh would you look at that, the best part of Zelda's worldbuilding! Sure there are plenty of other great legends and cultures in the series, but the franchise as a whole rarely lets them stick around long enough to develop into anything meaningful, and those that do have their themes too heavily focused upon to really *build* something meaningful. These are the fish people with an aquatic society, here are the rock people adapted to living in volcanic regions, their cultures are too often just "Ok, so what is their Pokemon type?", any deeper explorations like "Ok Gorons do sumo now!" getting scrapped for whatever the secondary theme will be in the next installment. The Gerudo though? They're just humans, so some legwork was actually put in to make them distinct as this video so eloquently states. Their lore and history HAS to matter, because that's what makes them special. And they could've stopped there, but they went the extra mile and made some neat parallels historical inspirations, everything from taking traditional Amazonian myths to paralleling the Arabia vs. Europe conflicts with Gerudo vs. Hyrule to that kickass flamenco remix of Gerudo Valley in Smash Bros. Every one of those real world homages brings so much weight with it, making the Gerudo culture feel so much meatier thanks to those parallels making it effortless to extrapolate more from them. More than any other society in Hyrule they feel active and ALIVE in the world, including the Hylians themselves! Would love to see some more of that creativity injected into the other peoples of Hyrule someday, I'd love to be invested in them as much as I am the Gerudo.

You're making a solid argument and highlighting why we need a Zelda game to have a Gerudo protagonist. The Same game can be experienced so vastly differently from different settings.

Interesting. I also have never played BOTW but with Tears of the Kingdom coming out it has me interested in giving it a go - probably because I didn't get my Switch until late 2019. When I got to be an adult and replayed OoT, my thoughts were that the tribe had mostly been colonized by the Hylians and that lead to Ganon becoming evil. Really good video, I love your perspectives. ❤
It would be cool to se the Gerudo and DC Comics Amazons interact. It seems like they take different elements from the mythological Amazons and I'd like to see if that would cause tension or broker a better understanding between them. Also, Link using the Lasso of Truth like a hook shot.
Yeah, it's got a lot of... uh... nothing going on. Nothing is definitely a thing it has. Wait, no, I lie, it has pausing at sunrise/sunset in order to swap out your gear. Oh, and sand seals are kind of cool... can't use them anywhere else though... can't use my favourite horse either... ...Yeah sorry I don't get it.
For being a fan since nearly the beginning I just now noticed is that mother-freakimg Kaiba at 0:08 ?!??!!! Edit: you better use "The Hot Wind Blowing" at some point or I'll ratio the heck out of your video.
Wait... so if the Gerudo only ever leave the desert to settle down and only come back to visit Doesn't that mean they're no longer going to exist as an independent tribe within a few generations? If the Gerudo only ever visit their home, that means there are no native Gerudo being born
He only does so if you wear the Gerudo Mask and show it to him. ... which you'd only get after receiving all three Spiritual Stones so you could give the Bunny Hood to the Running Man, so it's REAL unlikely to ever be seen. But it is there, I assure you!

Okay to give a serious response, I think the Gorons are incredibly underutilized as a race. Most of their appearances center around them being dopey little dudes just wandering through life caring mostly about food, bombs, and sometimes mining. The other aspect they lean into is mostly on masculine strength and bonds of brotherhood, seen in stuff like Darunia or the sumo wrestling of Twilight Princess. And that stuff is cool, but they don't really seem to develop that much of a society alongside it. The Gorons seen in BotW obviously have their mining colony and whatnot, but that's mostly separate from the silly man being like "hey don't tell anyone that you can just cook food if you put it on the floor" or the ideas of strength and bravery that Daruk tries to embody. Gorons are just kinda "goofy big guys" when they have the potential for a lot more (that the other tribes tend to more fully explore), and while that's absolutely fine and I'm content with them, and certain ones more than have their moments...
