I love to think that Groose, after being rejected by the Goddess Hylia herself, went on to found an all female race of people
Very possible tbh
Why would Link and Zelda exile Groose after he becomes a nice guy?
@@chrispork1443 like when Zelda rejected dating Groose
@@aidanhazard463
Groose gave up on winning Zelda’s affection after seeing Link taking on the Imprisoned. At least I think so. Besides, he returns to Skyloft, leaving the two alone together on the surface. By the time he comes back to visit his new friends, Link and Zelda may already be in a romantic relationship and he’ll fully support them being together.
I thought the same thing!!!😱
Another thing. The whole “is another male born literally every hundred years or is it after the previous ones dies (generally around every 100 years),” isn’t as debatable an issue. Riju mentions that another male hasn’t been born even after 100 years. Probably because Ganondorf is still “alive” as we see in the BotW 2 trailer. So I think it’s pretty much confirmed that only one male Gerudo can exist at a time.
Wel there ya go!
But that doesn't explain the male outfit in their new stile of clothes. Of course we only saw the male armor and a robe worn by Gannondorf.
@@georgedobbs7915 Well, males still exist, albeit not Gerudo ones. Perhaps the male outfit was specifically designed for Hylian males, not Gerudo ones.
@@thegreatkingofevilganondor1500 I think you’re on to something with that. Gerudos (both female and male) are generally of a much larger build than Hylians. So unless that armor was made for a child, it was meant to be worn by a Hylian male and not a Gerudo male.
If this is true, then the green hand-seal thing makes even more sense. It would keep ganondorf in a mummified stasis, keeping him alive and preventing the cycle of gerudo males from continuing. However, it had some unforeseen consequences.
I love the Zelda fandom! Instead of the classic “oh you’ve only played the most recent game you must not be a real fan” bs you can get from a lot of fandoms you get videos like this and statements like “I understand that a lot of people have just played botw but are interested in the lore and other games!” It’s so inclusive and absolutely no gatekeeping!!!!
:D

Well, this isn’t the first time a new game has taken Zelda to that next level of sales. Last time it was Twilight Princess, and before that it was Ocarina of Time.
Groose: Where should I start a nation
(A) Nice rockland
(B) Grassland
(C) Over lake
(D) Desert [BAD CHOICE]
Groose: D No question
The desert in skyward sword is called the lanayru desert, the lanayru area in later chronological games are twilight princesses northern hyrule castle and lake/Zora region, and botw eastern section also home to the zora.
So it may be possible that groose picked a very habitable spot but time wasn’t kind to the area.
@@reneemondy2357 Lanayru Desert is Gerudo Desert. There are Gerudo Fireflies in Lanayru Desert.
The locations from Skyward Sword also match perfectly with Breath of the wild
LOL Did he think there was an oasis in that desert?
@@ZeldaLore hmm, you have a point...I apologise for my ignorance.
Groose: "I'm gonna live in the only place as hot as I am, and all the ladies will be dressed like belly dancers!"
Riju is super adorable but I feel sad thinking about how fast she had to grow up though, due to being forced into the position of leader at such a young age.
Surprised you didn’t mention how the BotW Gerudo have more Hylian traits than in previous games, namely pointed ears and green eyes. Possibly a result of thousands of years of procreation with the Hylians.
Getting those desert cheeks clapped!!!!
And some have lighter skintones as well
Green eyes 💚
That is actually canon. It's mentioned in Making of a Champion and Hyrule Historia
Not just them - the Sheikah also have more Hylian traits than before, and there's a distinct lack of round-eared, non-Hylian humans in the Faron region compared to Twilight Princess.
I miss Urbosa too much, I got very attached to her character in a mother figure way
Yeah...
I love Chief Urbosa as well. Such a great character in general. Kind, beautiful, strong, wise, skilled fighter, and mentor to Zelda. She's amazing.
She. Is. A. Queen.

Lol right? She's barely a kid anymore, poor girl had to grow up too fast.
@@cifge_404 Alright chill out, she’s legit 12 in BotW. She’s pretty mature for a kid but, a kid nonetheless.
Riju should've given Link a Gerudo Token after he stopped Vah Naboris, and if not after that, then after he literally solved the problems of everyone in town and Riju entrusted him with a precious family heirloom
ikr i was wating for that ever since finished the game
Maybe she enjoyed the sight of female Link too much 😂😂😂
@@lostlinkle7190 lol
I love cross dressing tho😩😩

Surrogate parent is like adopted parent; so the witches raised Ganondorf after he was born, possibly when his birth mother died.
Perhaps
Or they could have just kept her from seeing Ganondorf. Something tells me that the witches would have wanted absolute control over who could influence him.
He could have been cast out
@Chris Pork @@HyruleGamer Though the Japanese tekst call them his ' parents' not surrogate, just his parents.
@@hopegallows1392 I wonder who ruled Gerudo before Ganondorf. We know that the witches are like over 300+ years old, so that means they probably got to serve the other Kings of Gerudo (unless Ganondorf himself was real old in Oot which I doubt)

Weird how little the Gerudo show up in the franchise considering its main villain is one of them.
Exactly. You'd think they'd show up a lot because Ganondorf is the tyrant Gerudo King.
They probably are infrequent because they most likely got exiled and/or massacred after the whole “giving birth to the incarnation of evil” thing
@@Isuream6331 they all collectively gave birth… oh Hylia
Good. They’re cringe and annoying bunch of folks. They over did it with making them muscled lmao

Perceiving himself the most powerful, in the downfall timeline, he wiped out his people possibly believing that another Gerudo male could be as powerful as him and not wanting to outdone
How would he wipe out his people?
Alternatively, it could be that, as he was apparently sealed in the sacred realm, the kingdom of Hyrule opted to eradicate all Gerudo remaining in their realm as accomplices to the Demon King.
Interesting that the Gerudo don’t appear at all in the downfall timeline however Yuga who we can assume is the Lorule counterpart to Ganon looks somewhat like a Gerudo so maybe he’s a Lorulean Gerudo
@@Doodle1678Obviously? I mean Lorule is a separate universe
Also, yeah, this fits with his actions in the backstory of A Link to the Past. In that game, he slaughtered his whole band of thieves, wanting his power all to himself. It's not beyond beast Ganon to kill everyone who once followed him
Your last theory of what happened to the male Gerudo that were born is morbid, but I had the same thought too. There is another idea I have though. Maybe they were abandoned and picked up by the Yiga. Look at the Blade Masters and compare their size to the Shiekah and Hylians. Now compare them to a full grown Gerudo woman like Urbosa. The second in command Blade Master in Age of Calamity is huge. The Gerudo males that were born throughout that time were raised and trained by the Yiga.
That's a really good theory I never thought of it like that
How could they pumping out that many Gannons? They’re mortal, I think it’s just more likely that Gannon has been mummified for years (not alive but not dead) & that’s the cause for the halt with not every 100 years. Can’t have two First Born Male’s in 100 yrs be only 2 years apart. This is such a cool idea though, wish we had people with this much creativity on the writing teams!
@@averykobs8692 evolution and environmental changes. The Gerudo used to be the same size as the Hylians and lived in terrible conditions. As time wore on, they genetically evolved to handle their environment until BotW and during that new state they were able to churn out more Gerudo males than before without the century long gap. Male Gerudo births were kept secret from Hyrule and the mothers had to abandoned their male babies (or kill them) in order to prevent a new Ganondorf from showing up. This action is due to fear and past history showing that male Gerudos have the potential to become evil if the living situation is not safe. In BotW the Gerudo are no longer suffering from the past harsh conditions, but they still keep up the secret tradition as I described above.
This could make sense since
A. The Yiga support Ganon
B. The Gerudo are trying to avoid another Ganon, or Ganon-like villain being born from their race
C. The Yiga seem to have a particular hatred towards the Gerudo women, which in this scenario, it would explain why
W/o knowing all the chronology to a tee, I always assumed the yiga were the male geruado

But fr tho gerudo valley = god tier
Continuing the idea that Groose was affected by Demise's curse, it's possible that the idea of Groose's descendents being all women is a slap in the face to the masculine boi. Also, we can see in Oot how Ganondorf didn't really care about his people. Once he's taken over the land, he brainwashes his people to keep control over them. His intentions were probably good, but Demise's curse was too strong

"in my opinion, besting a gerudo warrior is a patience game" Ha! My deku nut says otherwise.

Yeah they are rather easy to defeat.
In fairness, deku nuts beat most everything in the game.
When you were talking about the Gerudo during the events of OoT, I couldn't help but think of Firelords Sozin and Ozai and the Fire Nation as a whole in Avatar. Their leaders were evil, but the people were just following orders. There were some bad people like Zhao, Azula and the Twinrova, but also some good people like Iroh and Nabooru.
Although I suppose that could be the case with every nation in the world today. Evil corrupt leaders, some good people who just happen to be following orders.
Long ago the four nations lived in harmony (Hyrulians, Zora, Gorons, Rito). Then everything changed when the Gerudo attacked. Only the hero chosen by the Goddess, master of the sword that seal darkness, could stop them. But when the world needed him most he vanished.
A hundred years passed and the hero has awaken from his sleep. He has a lot to learn, a lot of items to collect, a lot of side quests, and a lot of heart containers to consume.
But I believe Link can save the world.”

Omg I just had a thought. If the next male is only born after the current one is actually death, then the Gerudo must have realised in BotW that no boy was born and Ganon might still be out there? Or is there a fault in my thought process?
This is definitely true! Like very very possibly the case! I was thinking about it too :)
Yeah!
Have you seen botw 2 trailers? He is definitely there!
@@Felipera_ yea. i montly paid attention to the wierd blue-green symbols tho cuz i thought they were cool
They might not know that they can birth males at all. Their last male birth should have happened so long ago that the possibility of them birthing males is considered a legend from ages past. Afaik even the fact that the Calamity was originally a Gerudo is treated as a legend with uncertainty if that’s actually what happened. So they wouldn’t question the status quo as they wouldn’t know that it’s supposed to be different.
I haven't watched yet but the Gerudo have always fascinated me & having their own Goddess makes me love them even more! Like we know the all consuming Hylian religion but why not about the Sand Goddess?
Maybe it’s a branch of the Hylian religion? Maybe Hylia was changed to fit the harsher environment of the Gerudo
Every time I think I'm over how good Breath of the Wild is, someone makes an in-depth video that talks about it, and I appreciate it all over again.
It would be cool if you could do a Zora/Roto history, seeing as how they are intertwined.
Yes
i would like to see some roto history, for sure
Gerudo fortress IS fairly high, when compared to lake hylia. Remember, you had to cross that chasm to get there, and jumping into the chasm would lead to a river that flows into the lake even further below.
Regarding the downfall timeline, the Gerudo likely rebelled against the demonic Beast Ganon, probably very unsuccessfully without the help of sage magic and shieka tech.
I would love to see a game where the current male Gerudo, who's not named Ganondorf (or maybe he is, that could be interesting), who helps Link & Zelda against the antagonist, staying on the side of the hero the whole time or being seduced by power and pulling off a painful betrayal. I think that would make for a good story.
It would be cool to have a zelda game with a pregnant Gerudo that you help. Maybe she craves some far away delicacy 😁
Then she gives birth....
To a male...
Ooooh
why do i want to see that now?
I’m working on a Zelda fan game where a new Gerudo male is born, Link. And 17 years later Ganondorf is resurrected and the two of them fight not only over the fate of Hyrule, but for the rightful title as King of the Gerudo
Ayo man you down bad
I always thought Ganondorf didn’t age in between oot and tp because he was in some kind of “limbo” in the twilight realm for most of that hundred years after he almost died from the execution attempt. He does sort of look like a disembodied energy ghost in that flashback when Zant explains his newfound powers.
I remember me and my dad trying to get into gerudo town in ocarina of Time we had so much fun Zelda was one thing we could bond over (poor guy had to suffer through a LOT of Barbie and princess's 😂)
The details are always important. Groose is the original Gerudo, no doubt. He wanted his own land, and he got it.
True true!
"Fies everything toge-.....ties everything together" lmaoooooo🤣
Excellent video, love the Gerudo especially Urbosa. Thank you for checking everyone on Lady Riju. She's a sweet very strong little girl. Go HG! Hugs from Texas!
Thanks!
Did you ever notice how the runes resemble the features and fears of every race?
The rito love bomb arrows, metal attracts lightning, the feature of Urbosa, Goron’s weapons hit heavy for each swing, water can freeze into ice.
The other way, gorons fear bombs because they’re made out of stone, the Zora fear lightning because they’re fish, the Rito are very fragile being birds and.. Can the gerudo even swim? That could be their perk.
Then Zelda liked taking photos, the mastercycle is Link’s divine beast and amiibo is for losers.
Interesting
The Gerudo may be susceptible to drowning since they mostly lived in an environment of limited water and may not practice swimming often.
EXUSE ME?!
Maybe koume and kotake had ganondorf as twinrova? As weird as it seems, it could be possible as both sisters can combine into one woman.
It's just... really... weird.
"ge-ru-do" sounds like how the german word 'geld' (gold) would be transcribed into japanese. the gerudo have a lot of gold...stuff. maybe a connection...?

Covering the other races would be very cool! especially with the added theory :) always quality vids from you!
Noted!
Genuinly enjoyed getting a video on my number one favourite video game race of all time. I've been deeply in love with this race ever since OoT first came out here in the west, so I'm always eager to soak up every inch of knowledge of them that I can get.
Though I knew everything you talked about already, there was one thing that actually got my headgears turning a bit. Yeah, I know the common theory of their origins being Groose, and while I can somewhat get behind that theory, an important thing to remember is that he couldn't have been the only one. Takes more than one being to make babies, after all, and somehow I kind of doubt that Groose's genes were so special that he only had female kids - and their kids after that also only being female. So, sure, I can be onboard with him being the grandaddy of the Gerudo, but who's the grandmomma? The Gerudo might've gotten their red hair and golden eyes from him, but their unique genes making it so that they only give birth to females? I'd say Groose found himself a very special wife, and I would very much like to know more about *her!*
Thank you :D

same im thinking "im fasting what am i suppose to do"
I'm curious if you think Jolene from Phantom Hourglass could be a descendant of the Gerudo trapped in another dimension, like how Linebeck seems to be a Hylian trapped in said other dimension.
Perhaps!!
I think the Gerudo tradition of making the one male their leader ended with Ganondorf. After that happened, they've been depicted as regretful for his actions and trying to make up for their association with him. As you said, in four swords the male Gerudo born is a reincarnation of Ganondorf and the Gerudo, rather than making him a leader, shun him. It could be that the nature of the curse of reincarnation means that the male Gerudo born every 100 years will now always be a reincarnation of Ganondorf, which could explain why the BOTW Gerudo seem to dislike men more than ever before.
15:40 is a piece of art. I love you for leaving it in lol
I love it haha. I thought I was tripping so I searched for this comment.
What if a Gerudo was born while Ganondorf was alive and grows up normally but when Ganon dies Demise’s influence begins to take him over. By this time he’s developed as a young respectable warrior with a close ties to Link and Zelda. The conflict between himself and Demise’s influence could be a core part of the story.
Well hold on now, there's speculation that Jolene and Joanne in Phantom Hourglass are descended from or related to the Gerudo. It's nothing concrete but it's worth a mention at least.
25:46 something I think that everybody should know^^
Yes
I'm not saying people should sexualize her (I don't really care, as she is fictional) but I fail to see the issue with sexualizing a 12 year old character who physically looks no different than other teenage character, and sexualizing both Link and Zelda, something many have done, who are only 16 for the majority of the game. Seems hypocrital to call out one, but not the others.
@@stuffz1757 Solution to that: stop doing it to all of them :)
@@stuffz1757 well there was no mention of Zelda and Link in the video so their would be no point in mentioning it in the original comment.
Defeated Gerudo in Majora's Mask: Ugh! Don't think it ends here!
Defeated Ganondorf in Twilight Princess: Do not think it ends here. The history of light and shadow will be written in blood!

When groose is in a video: OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD ITS HAPPENING

I can't be the only one who noticed that the rhythm in the Gerudo Town theme in BotW is somewhat similar to Groose's theme, not to mention his name sounds extremely similar to Gerudo and that he is huge and his skin tone is a bit more tan than most other lighter-skinned skyloftians. I'd also like to add that there's no way in hell that Gondo the scrap shop tinker is not related to Gonzo and Alfonzo, given his build, skintone, and name. Nintendo sure does love their lore references
that's like saying great and gerudo sounds similar
@@DeathKiller362 okay, and? With enough similarities as I put on the table, every coincidence, no matter how slight, fits together quite nicely
@@sc0rpi0nspoison I was only refuting that one point I don't know enough about music to say that it's not just a track that has a similar instrument (I don't listen to zelda music on the regular either) or about every character that has existed in zelda based on skintone (obviously most are white but that doesn't mean much alone) to make a COMMENT (idk if you know that's what this thing that I'm doing is called) on it.
let alone it might just be because he's tan from spending all his time outdoors, or a few instruments are identical and they didn't notice it, for instance how a ton of famous songs with guitar have the exact same chords or whatever. I could refute some of those other things with this but you see, I don't know enough so why would I comment on it. groose and gerudo sounding similar is something anyone who is ok or better an english can tell you is wrong tho, they have some similarity, but that's like saying legend of zelda (original) and botw are extremely similar because they're both pretty much entirely open world from the start. doesn't make much sense, does it. they are somewhat similar, and you could say that about great, greed, green, literally any word that is about 6 letters and starts with gre. not much for evidence when I say that.

Thanks a lot!
Really liked the video. Urbosa by far is my favorite Gerudo, she is my favorite character to use in Age of Calamity.
Thanks!
Happy birthday to Ms. Hyrule Gamer herself!!! This video was fantastic as always. I adore your content and I really appreciate the fact you like pretty much every comment on your videos! It’s awesome to see you putting in the effort to interact with your viewers. You’re probably my favorite Zelda UA-camr, right there with Zeltik!
Happy to hear this!

ooooo i was so excited to see that you had a new video i love them so much!
Glad to hear :)
Got this in my recommended 30 seconds after releasing. Thats a MUST watch in my book. Love your videos, editing, and talking points. Sorry for not subbing sooner.
Thanks a lot!
Absolutely fantastic!
If you do another I'd love a full Sheikah timeline!
Thanks and noted!
Another thing to support the groose idea: he loved tinkering with things and crafting so a place like the lanayru desert thats full of ancient technology might be like a wonderland for him lol. Great vid as always!
Edit: Groose being the founder of Ganondorf's clan is also a symbolic testament to Groose's rivalry with Link. It makes sense that one of Groose's descendants would rise up to reenact that rivalry.
Very well done as always. And congrats on the b'day! Great that ur partner is supporting your interest
Thank you :D
I think it’s really cool what you did with the pieces of info about the gerudo and put them together in a very viable 100% believably history theory.
Thanks :)
Ganondorf is a witcher teached by twinrova. he is of course much stronger through the demon tribe. twinrova lived many centuries and with that in mind i guess he is also able to live longer.
This was incredibly well done and brilliantly written. So damn good! New to the channel, but not for long 😎 thank you so much for this!. And happy belated birthday to your girlfriend! 🥳 (And thank you too for this video's idea - I've been wanting a lesson on the history on the gerudo)
This video actually helped a lot i don't actually play the games(i have watched like 2 full playthroughs of aoc and a lot too much botw content) but am interested and this video explained a lot and it's a good video(though a bit confusing).

Isn't Vilia a Gerudo? I guess everyone at the oasis calls her a Hylian, and she's not exactly rocking abs for days, but the sun-tanned skin, red hair and eyes make her look like a convincing local if she's not actually from the desert.
Maybe mixed heritage?
@@yeeoldenhomeboyyeetus76 technically all Gerudo are mixed heritage given the only-female birth rate. but there's a lot of fair-skinned Gerudo in the town proper.
@zompige the Making a Champion book suggests that Vilia wasn't the name she was born with. It's possible that the most recent Gerudo male no longer identifies as such.
It was confirmed that he was a hylian who cross dressed to pass through gerudo town in hyrule historia
Happy Birthday to your girlfriend and thank you for the wonderful content!! It makes me love the Zelda series more and more when we get to know more in-depth information on groups and people.
Glad to hear :D

Awesome video dude, I would love to see some more videos like this.
But any way keep up the good work!👍
Thanks :)
That "for now" at the end was epic lol. Thanks for the history lesson, I absolutely love the Gerudo, and I always appreciate getting to learn more about them. The only game I haven't played that has the Gerudo in it is Four Swords Adventures, so I definitely learned something new from that era. I have always theorized that Groose was the original Gerudo male and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.
Anyways, say happy birthday and thanks for requesting this video to Mother Hyrule for me!
Also, one thing I want to add. I always have pronounced Mikau's name like "My-Cow" though that is just my way of saying it lol.
Glad you enjoyed!
