For the past several years I've seen my local Buddhist temple have low standards of performance for the lion dance. I've reached out to the local monks to see if I can put together a training regimen to help the performers for the upcoming festival.
Tysm for these educational vids, i just discovered this and wanted to write a story that incorporates this tradition but dont wanna sound uneducated and clueless 🫶
Our style is a variant of the Hok San style. If you look up Hok San lion dance music, you'll hear many of the same beats (though perhaps under different names)!
I really wanna be a lion damcer but 1..im not very flexible, i think im oberweight for my age, idk anything about the tradition, i dont live in asia and much more... But i wont give up. Im only 9 so i got quite a bit of time
There are many lion dance groups in the US or Europe and you can go watch groups around lunar new year (which just passed) You’re still young and don’t worry about flexibility for lion dancing, you just need to be light on your feet. Always got time to improve!
@@Aharuiano it's not cringe at all! You have a lot of time and your body isn't developed yet so you just need to start! You can go to your local wushu federation, because many Asian lion dance troups are formed from the wushu teams and forms and moves take roots from wushu (like the horse stance, the rooster stance). With proper wushu training you will gain flexibility and strength that are needed for the lion dance. Keep going! I am 22 and started wushu two months ago, though I thought it will be too late for me, but it's not, I am motivated by my coaches and I've just started saving money for my lion dance costume. Don't give up! 💪 Start learning Chinese culture, it will keep you interested and motivated. Our first steps may be cringey, but after all the hard work we will achieve the result that we wanted
I’m from a lion dance troupe known as Khuan loke lion dance association and this is quite correct
