Dan and Mazzy thank you for the trip down memory lane, from my black doll and silver Cross pram,to the mirror above my parents fireplace. Lol that was a man's string vest and pants. Fish and chips were wrapped in newspaper, you ended up with ink of the print on your hands 😅. Life was simple, but it was HOME SWEET HOME. Xx Safe journey home , enjoy your well earned chill out time.
I remember putting two shillings in the tv it was the only way we could afford a tv, you got three hours viewing, we used to work out what we wanted to watch and if there were adverts which lasted three minutes so we switched the tv off and back on after the three minutes. When the man from the company came to empty the meter they took the payment for the tv and we got back any extra. Changed days.
I love Beamish, haven't been since they added the 50's section on. I was born in 1950 and remember all the cookers, tv's, fridges etc. Doesn't seem that long ago. Things were built to last then and even now i can't bear to part with a couple of kitchen items that belonged to my parents. Great vlog, happy memories and glad you found it fascinating too. Thank you. 😊
No been to Beamish for years but watching this i think a wee visit is in order. Heres a joke for your screenshot tiiimmmmmeeee.. I was bored so i swapped all the sweets into different wrappers. My wife isnt amused she got her snickers in a twix....😂😂
The cinema used to show 2 films. The main one and another support film. You could go in anytime and sit and watch as long as you wanted. It appeared to just continue rolling so if you timed it wrong you would see the end of the film first. There was also Saturday morning pictures for kids. 6d for about 3 hours. Kept us out of our parents way for the morning and we took ourselves and back home again. We knew not to talk to strangers or take sweets from people and to use the zebra crossing to cross the road. Lol
A really delightful video. Brings back so many memories of bygone days. People were so happy and life was so simple in the 50's,60's, and 70's . Fantastic times. Thanks, guys, for a lovely video. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much. Mmm I had a bobbIn knitting set, wesere one of the first in our village to get a black and white tv in 1953 for the coronation. And yes our stove had a hotplate on top. Our first fridge was in 1958.i had a scooter just like that in 1957. And roller skates a year later. Before joining the AirForce aged 17 in 1940 my Father worked part time for 3 yearsas a projectionist in the Odeon Cinema with that same equipment. Yes my Grandma had a kitchenette with a drop down front. There are. a lot of 50st radio programmes on you tube. Yes that was a man’s string vest and undies. I hate community centres too. Thanks again Dan . I will go away or i will be here all night
I wasn't born until the late 60s but it's still bringing back some childhood memories. We had loads of animals including chickens. I think those bantams with pompom heads are a breed called Polish x
Brilliant vlog , we must visit . Loved following your trip through Scotland has kept us entertained, lots of laughs and content . Thank you both for all the information and great content . Safe travels home xx
Hi Dan & Mazzy Loved your Trip round Scotland and iv been watching all your Ireland trip again but i miss the one when you was in Co' Louth first time round, I was so looking forward to it, I though you would have gone in to Drogheda to see, The severed head of a 17th-century Irish martyr lies within an intricate golden shrine. it's the head of St. Oliver Plunkett's, its in St Peter's Rome Catholic Church the church is Beautiful also St Laurence Gate and beautiful Magdalene Tower, Then Millmount Fort This castle was used to defend the town during Cromwell’s, Muiredach’s High Cross Standing at 5 metres tall, the High Cross is the work of a master stonemason and Monasterboice round tower was used as a watchtower and refuge by monks during times of Viking attack Battle Of The Boyne.William of Orange was the son-in-law of King James II. As a protestant young man he married Mary (the daughter of King James II) and therefore secured his place as the successor to the throne. After receiving pressure from England's politicians, William built up an army and invaded England in November of 1688. The Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was one of the most significant events in Irish history, part of a wider struggle for power across 17th century Europe. The Battle of the Boyne was fought between King William III and his father-in-law King James II on 1 July 1690 (12 July according to our modern calendar). The kings were rival claimants to the English, Scottish and Irish thrones. Protestant King William (who was also the Dutch Prince of Orange) had deposed Catholic King James in 1688. James went to Ireland where he rallied his mostly Catholic army (know as 'Jacobites' after James' name in Latin, Jacobus), making a stand on the southern banks of the Boyne outside Drogheda.you would have loved Newgrange it's one of the most prominent passage tombs in the world and there's free a bus from the Visitor Centre to the tomb and back, all my Mother's family come from Drogheda,me and my husband are go back to Ireland next year to do the wild atlantic way we have watching you and Mazzy for 4 years now we the old one at 70 & 68 been married for 50 years this year,, this one is for Mazzy Love your Irish jokes can we have some more please, appreciate the time and effort and hard work you have put all your blog sharan and graham x
Great video again thanks. I think that thing next to the hairdryer was hair curlers, put them in the fire to get hot then make curls with them in hair ❤xx
Dan when you said you wondered what Beamish would be like in 50 years time well I first went there 52 years ago and is a lot bigger now I think there was just the farm and the pit area back then, great video by the way
Looks just like my great aunt/uncles house right up until they passed away (in the last 10 years). Don't think they ever redecorated it since the 50's.
Ferguson telly rented from Rumbelows😄 I remember going in with my parents in the '70's to pay the rental & we were the first ones in our little area to get a colour tv😄 I don't remember the cookers looking like that either, so must have been before my time. I did have a Silvercross pram like the ones there & I got my sisters roller skates, that looked like the ones Mazzy pointed out. I think everyone had one of those kitchen cabinets with the drop down working area too. I know ours was put into the cellar to house my dads tools. My mum told me there was a doll doctor in Manchester & Liverpool. When we went to visit their friends, their daughter, who was about 10 yrs older than me, had a black male doll & she used to pull his pants down to show me😱🤣🤣 It had been her mothers doll before hers. I was only little & sworn to secrecy so I wouldn't tell my parents🤣🤣 I'm like you two & remember bits of things, but don't recognise others as I must be too young😄 What a great place to visit. Its a shame you felt rushed, but thank you so much for showing us. Hopefully you can go again & do it at your own leisure & get to see more.
Loved this brought back memories of my old grandma's house in a pit village in South Yorkshire seeing a kitchen like hers again really made me feel sentimental thanks safe journey home xx❤😊
Great video very interesting and I remember my parents and grandparents having some of the furniture you showed. Fish and chips looked amazing how they should be.
Hi Dan & Mazzy, Great vlog, it was lovely to see all the 1950 shops and items. It would be great if they had a 1980s place. The fish and chips you had looked delicious. Looking forward to your next vlog, take care xxx

Hi darlins, I had a black doll when I was little, I gave it a little bath, and the whole thing disintegrated, !!!😨didn’t realize it was made out of paper mache, 😢 hahaha, xx
It’s an Anderson Shelter and yes the government would deliverer it to your house and you would bury it in your garden and the other shelter was for a warden to have in case there was an air raid during the war
Brilliant, Loved the colliery houses and school, glad you didn't get the Cain, dad and I went in there too and down the drift mine Take care and love to you both Anne and Andrew ❤❤😊😊xxxx
That was amazing I would love to go there so many memories. My grandad was a miner the reason the sink was separate was because they would come home from the mines black from crawling around in the pit they could wash before going into the house. My grandad sink was in a small outhouse in the back yard. My mum's younger brother died in the mine at 18 it collapsed on him and others and they couldn't get them out in time. Did you no they used to take little bird cages with a canary in it in case they struck gas. If the bird died they new they had to get out quick. As kids we used to play on the coal banks chasing newts it was a brilliant childhood kids today have it hard. I had a black doll and a white one and a big silver cross twin pram. We had a rented furguson t.v. And you had to put 20ps in the lecky metre. There is so much in that video I can remember it brought wonderfully memories and a teer to my eyes lol. Thank you xxxx
The difference with the Zebra crossings in that they are now black and white stripes on the road, in the 30s, 40s, 50s it was just white stripes as at 10.39 in the video. ;-)
Mazzy the Andrrsn Shelters were supplied in kit form by tbe government for use in the garden I think people had to dg 4 ft below the surface. If your income was low they were free but if not there was a charge. Don’t know much more except above ground Morrison shelters were an alternative looking something like a wood framed cage. Sometimes used in a cellar or in a dining room with a piece of wood on top and used as a table. About the size and height of a normal family table. My Grandfather was an warden in the Air Raid Patrol WW11. Being too old to re enter the forces. At the time A cheeky way to say what the ARP stood for was Ar-ng round pubs.
Hi dann n mazzy, got a question for ya, can you remember goin ON day Trips from the local workin man's Club, If you do, where did you Go to? Living in keighley?

If you enjoyed the fish and chips you need to go to Upton Chippy near Gainsborough lincs. not to far from the nurseries. The people from Beamish went to Upton to learn how to use the coal fired fryer they have there.
Thanks, that 50's town brought back so many memories! 😊 Brilliant, we are so looking forward to visiting again. I think the first time we went there was just the Edwardian street. It's grown so much.

Really interesting vlog. I agree would be good for a 70's 80's town. Some of the furniture I remember at my grandparents. Also I wouldn't worry about not saying anything in the vlog Mazzy as it's just as interesting walking around with you guys seeing it all.x

I agree with Dan, would love to see an 80's one! Or even a 90's as that was even long ago now. Mazzy you're so right - popping out children and them starting school...my children's school has now started taking 9 month old babies in the nursery! ❤
😁
Really interesting vlog. I agree would be good for a 70's 80's town. Some of the furniture I remember at my grandparents. Also I wouldn't worry about not saying anything in the vlog Mazzy as it's just as interesting walking around with you guys seeing it all.x
I'm sure there'll be another town added eventually 😁
Wonderful vlog. Interesting to see how people lived in the 50s 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
@ absolutely. Thanks again
The things you didn't know what they were (near the hairdryer) they are curling tongs you would warm them up then wrap your hair around to curl
Thank you.
Yes the bunker is an Anderson Shelter given to each house by the government for use as an air raid shelter
Ok thanks.
Jazzy the item you picked up in the bedroom and suggested it was a water diviner was in fact hair curling tongs!
Ok thanks

Hi dan we’ve both just been watching the repair vlog …… how daunting I’ve thought of a way to make it less stressful. Step one buy a couple of trays of John smiths.step two when your thinking of tackling a job have one when job is done have another 😂 at least when you see the John smiths going down you know the jobs are getting done 😂😂 step 3 you’ll feel less stressed (job done )👍
Have a nice week regards dave and Angie

Hi Dan & Mazzy might be worth looking into could save you money English Heritage membership, Your membership entitles you to free entry to more than 40 iconic Irish sites looked after by OPW who are responsible for the care of Ireland's most important heritage sites and in scotland, Members of the National Trust for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland can visit places cared for by National Trust organizations around the world through the INTO. This includes properties in Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Canada, and Australia
We are not in Ireland. And we are in Scotland Heritage.
Thank you again we want more.. 👌👌 xxx

Hi Dan and Mazzy....the zebra crossing from the 50s does not have the zig zags in the approach like they do today.
Or cars 😁
Hi to you both.
My goodness I have never seen anything like that ever , how I would love to walk around there, what an amazing place, it’s so well thought out..

If you're 29, I'm 39; shhh yourself, lol. Celery is yummy. The 50's were still a wonderful time, it's after WWII and before all of the drugs took over in the late 60's. Really nice video, great town. Thank you.
You are very welcome 😁
