Ray Davies always impressed me as a singer and songwriter. I waited on his table at the restaurant I worked at in 1980 in Seattle WA. I was thrilled to have met him.
Maybe I'm wrong, but Ray was super talented! I never did think he got the recognition he deserved. He WAS famous back in the day of course and the Kinks reached immense popularity for a time, but after awhile, I feel like society didn't appreciate him enough after awhile when that appreciation and admiration should have continued. Just my opinion...
First time I asked a girl to go to a concert with me [spring of '74]. Back then she only knew "Lola". she enjoyed a fantastic concert, singing and dancing. She ended up knowing more songs. I knew then that I had to marry that girl when I finished college. We're married 46 years now.
I've noticed that as the music plays I remember every note and every word from my teenage years. A.m. radio back in the day used to overplay things. I didn't mind when these were overplayed.
Geile freche, verliebte Jungensmusik. Jetzt bin ich 70, damals 17. Ich habe es genossen. All Day and all of The Night.. All the good Things and all the Bad Things that have gone. Es inspiriert mich eine Band zu gründen die auch auf sowas Bock hat. Meldet Euch.
I had this LP in 1966 when it was entitled "Well Respected Kinks" The princely sum of 14/11 was what I paid for it at the time, new. I saved up my paper round money for it. Worth every last penny, it was one of my first LPs!
@@johnross2924 On the contrary ,there were lots of good bands, just not quite in the same class as these guys. apart from the obvious ones. Beatles /Stones etc.

I bought it too, for 4 dollars, around the same time, at Karma Records in Terre Haute, Indiana when I was in high school. "Where Have All The Good Times Gone," indeed.
I've always thought the Kinks were by far the British Invasion band that held up best over time as far as never sounding dated. When "You Really Got Me" hit the airwaves I was 7 years old and immediately grabbed my Grampa's rusty stringed warped box guitar from the basement and learned the bass/vocal lines as well as possible and have played guitar ever since. I'll be 60 in a few weeks. I once heard them called "The Beatles for grown-ups" and seriously can't argue THAT one! GOD SAVE THE KINKS!!!
Great observation and comment. Their music doesn't sound dated. I don't disagree with you there...BUT..their sound DOES have a strong "1960's" flavor to it. Yet, their music is somehow TIMELESS. It's hard to describe. It's like...their music fits PERFECTLY in this neat little box situated halfway between having a very CLEAR CUT sound from a certain time period, ("60's pop rock", for lack of a better term), YET, their music still prevails today. It's timeless and never grows old. their music is still relevant, like the Bealtes, the Stones Arlo Guthrie, Jim Croce, Led Zeppelin, all that music. Know what I mean ? Another way to put it is their 60s sound is a "Time stamp" of sorts, as far as describing their music style, yet again, their music is timeless at the same time...
Si no fueron como Los Beatles fue porque prácticamente sólo cantaba y componía Ray. Encantadora banda, anyway. Los amaba. Yo viví los Sesenta!!! Thank God.❤
The Kinks are on a par with The Beatles in my opinion. Phenomenal talents with their own unique sound. This sort of music is long past and has been replaced by mostly tuneless repetitious stuff. A real shame.
I think they stand up better today. She used to love me, but not anymore. Yellow submarine, of course! Revolution... it'lll be alright! Maybe it depends on the political spectrum we lie on. But I am a 20th century man, wondering boy, longing for the green commons where the people and the pags are real. Love the Kinks!
I'm not replacing this music with anything, not in my world! Rediscovered Waterloo Sunset after long neglect, brought me here. Thankful for UA-cam, goodbye radio.
Without Ray Davies there would never been The Kinks. It extremely clear for me. Ray’s been so GREAT as a singer & songwriter. His brother Dave Davies was an important and good guitarist. too. Ray was a very nice an good person too. He’s been a fine person! - jon fisher

A collection of great songs by great trendsetting English band!

The whole package!! Ahead of their time and getting better with the years.
Far ahead of their time - hell, they literally defined much of what was going to come in rock!
They invented hard rock metal.
As well as several of the classic rhythmic chord progressions....
Ya and they were sort of pre punk,Ray Davies was a radical dude.
A subtle, sneaky, radical dude in his own quiet British way! I love him and the Kinks !👍🏼🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️

I was listening many of these beautiful songs as I was only 4 or 5 y.o.maybe a little bit older!
All Day and All Of the Night was their debut single in the U.S. It had an astonishing hard rocking sound, that riff is unforgettable.
It wasn't their debut single - You Really Got Me was.
Whatever it was, this is what I’d say: Thank you for the day!
Which was just as hard rocking!
