It's not production ready yet. It's amazing in slow moving scenes, but there's still quite a few scenarios where it just completely breaks. From what I understand though it's pretty much a performance gain in every scenario even with old hardware. Hope they iron it out soon because it will be an absolute game changer once it's ready.
@@yoyoyogames9527 Lighting in games has always been a major technical hurdle filled with technical limitations. Making sure lights don't overlap other lights, lights turning off at a certain distance, casting or not casting shadows, casting correct lighting from multi-colored sources (like a tv screen), light sources on one side of a wall lightings up things on the other side of the wall, etc.. are all optimizations and thus limitations to traditional real-time lighting. MegaLights overcomes those limitations. The only way WC can mess this one up is by turning it on before it's production ready which it is not currently.
I think they could explain respawning by saying that we are a new survivor that came down with the aberration ark and explains why we still have an implant. Also since this ark is damaged, its not able to do the reseed protocol and leaving respawning working within range of the crash site. But still hope we are still the same survivor. And a hardcore designed map would be cool.
A hardcore map would be terrible, especially for those of us who use "forever survivors" to get to the max level by beating every Alpha boss, getting every note, chibi levels, and eventually Fjordur runes etc. as you know they'll still require people to beat the alpha ascension on this new map to get the maximum survivor level. Besides, that excludes the fact this game already is pretty bad with the exploits and whatnot, PVPers would make that map far worse to play on than any other just because of the lack of a respawn. I'd say just make have a normal respawn and make it so that Helena sets up a new one in order to prevent the protagonist survivor from dying before being beamed up to the genesis ship.
I just hope the engine update reduces the lag issues/crashing on official servers. They should focus more on the performance first than throw out more content. Even the most current setups can't run this badly optimized game smoothly without turning off settings.

There are atleast 2 reasons why about half of the community is still on ASE. One would be lack of content although that is getting better and the other is definetly performance. Problem with performance isnt just optimization but old hardware aswell although people can get proud and dont want to admit that they are running on 14 years old hardware and updating gpu to 4090 is not enough, you got to upgrade cpu aswell. My pc was about 6 years old but i decided to upgrade so im running it on AMD RX6700 XT 12GB GPU, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8 core CPU and 64GB of DDR4 RAM. While it wasnt too expensive to upgrade as i have only upgraded GPU, CPU and added 32GB of RAM it doesnt run ASA the way i would have wanted but it does 1080p to 1440p upscale with medium settings with about 60-80 fps depending on the map. Tested native 1440p with epic settings and everything on max and it does 20fps which is not that bad as i would have expected it to be xD Definetly waiting for the Engine upgrade to see if it actually improves the performance and im able to run it on higher settings but for now medium with 60-80 fps is pretty good for me.
I upgraded CPU and GPU recently aswell; 'cause that damn game literally fried my old graphics card. Still need to upgrade Ram though but I doubt there will be much change. They really should start working on stuff like that instead of fiddeling with a newer engine.

Performance will be way more stable as the more up to date engine will have better optimisation. The reason ascended runs so bad is because it’s using a pre development version of ue5 ( a simplified less supported version)
Yes, and if you look into what developers are saying about UE5.5, it's just going to become even more unoptimised, demanding and laggy-er. Epic is going down the wrong path.
Wildcard can realse how many difrent arks or content they want but they will never be available to replace ark survival evolved no mater if they do asa ark 2 or anything else ase will always be the one.
This game will be borderline unplayable after the engine upgrade. This company cuts so many corners they probably meant unreal engine 3 not 5. Can’t wait to not play official for multiple days!
What if somehow the Survivor as a Homo Deus finds a way to just make body as a vessel and every time you die, you as a Homo Deus just makes a new vessel, thus giving the illusion of a respawn.
They need to allow us to turn off the frame gen again. It's effecting performance pretty terribly and it's on by default. It boosts the frames by a bit, but it adds hitching and stuttering.
I love ARK, but the massive performance issues that comes with the game that haven't been resolved, but continue to release controversial content (P2W etc.) really puts me off investing time into this game. Pessimistically, I can't see this upgrade to UE 5.5 actually improving performance.
my idea, is that like Extinction they are going to introduce a new gameplay mechanic similar to the OSD raid fights. Except this time, the raids will come for you instead at certain times of day, like 7 Days to Die. They've already been somewhat testing this feature, with the implementation of a wandering King Titan on extinction, so I hardly doubt they would go through the effort of making a mechanic for that, to only just use it once. My guess, is that there will be a new type of enemy, either human or dino, that will actively spawn and hunt the player during the night period, giving players only the early hours of dawn to prepare and ready themselves. And included in the new Bobs True tales DLC pack, will be handy survival equipment and structures to help you survive further on the intense map. There are many people who wouldnt want to play with a 1 life only play style, so I personally dont think they would make that a thing. Instead, like I suggested above, I think Wildcard will make different changes to the npc's, to make it more difficult for us to survive. Besides the changes to the way npc's target players, I believe there will also be added weather conditions, harsher punishments for being out in the cold and harder to obtain loots and resources (since aberration changed to allow people to download from any supply drop, this new map will reintroduce obelisk only downloads again).
I'm not a fan of that format of survival game, but I don't think it's really possible to implement without focusing the raids on a certain structure. Reason being I play in a group where we always progress at different paces, but in those types of survival games the raids always screw over everyone except the most active players by throwing mobs at you that are scaled to whoever is highest level.
I am still an avid ASE player and I think the only thing making me want to jump to ASA so far is the fact that they're is going to be a new map. But once that's played through i doubt I'll keep playing and I'll jump back until all the maps are fully released.
I will still have all the maps downloaded, i have almost an entire 2TB for ark. as for the lore there is already a hardcore mode where you reset to level 1 when you die
I really hope they do bring back official hardcore servers. It was my preferred way to play ase after prim+ stopped working properly. I found hardcore servers to be the least toxic and most relaxed official servers, and I'm dying to get away from smalls.
I don't hate the idea of a hardcore map. It likely wouldn't be well received, but that's nothing new. I do believe the launches are getting better though desite the delays and other issues ive been seeing. That said, while i enjoy the lore (when i bother to read/listen to it) its pretty good and id like to see it become more fluid with less contradictions, plot holes, and mistakes. As for bringing ase players to ASA. It probably won't be baby fliers. It'll likely require a massive improvement to performance and the game to be finished at least up to Genesis maybe gen 2. If the performance and most of the bugs are fixed at that point. People will likely be more willing to migrate over.
They did the same thing with ASE. They periodically updated the engine to take advantage of new features and performance gains. Nearly every game does this, they just don't state it openly.
Once we get to gen 2 I hope they decide to get rid of the missions. Gen 1 makes sense to have them but gen 2 is on a real ship. Hope they get rid of em all together but 1 is ight. Also about the hardcore bit that sounds awesome. But if we die, would we just straight up lose all the map specific engrams we’ve gotten so far like the tek sleeping pod?
1. I don't understand why it's taking so long for flyer babies when we literally just had featherlights and their babies flying around on abb 2. i'm not playing any version of hardcore with a game that literally has you fall through the map while driving a car
That happened to me last night lost a 145 deino sucbus and 100 ele 😂 they should just have the mesh trigger a teleport to a recent coordinate on the map
Anyone else experiencing a memory leak with Ark, my usage goes from 7gb to 28gb when playing and ark is saying it's only using 11gb, nothing else shows a usage that could explain the other 10gb
The creep of animated series into the game is confusing. What or who is Bob? What's up with the mention of Rockwell trying to 'revive a loved one' which isn't (and shouldn't be, his char is fine already) in the game? Confused AF on those fronts
They can add as much as they want to ASA, if people can't run the game, the ASE playerbase will not move over. Great video though Raas, thanks as always
@Alecup06 actually not every other game i play is 160 to 220 ping worst case don't know why I'm hitting 360 average on ark (south africa connecting to europe)
the people who actually cant run the game are just people who are really stubborn, they either A. have low end hardware from 7+ years ago, B. expect to run the game on high settings with anything that isnt from this generation of hardware or C. dont want to use upscaling and framegen. basically any pc from the past 5 years can get 60 fps at 1080p mediumish settings with a bit of upscaling and framegen and when it comes to consoles its just people too stubborn to upgrade their console from 2012
this is getting ridiculous i play on ps5 every time i try to play now it crashes immediately after hitting start game. I've updated every mod deactiveted a few it worked for a day now wont work again i'm so tired of them constantly breaking everything, any suggestions?
Lol, didn't I tell you a few videos back that they wouldn't do the 5.4 and instead they'll push it back and say it's because they want to do 5.5 for megalights because...WC is so predictable when you wake up and stop giving them the benefit of the doubt given their track record. Hell, this might be another PS5 next gen upgrade story all over again which shouldn't surprise anyone.
Most sml/med creatures in my game have low res textures but the bigger creatures are great looking. Do you think this UE upgrade will fix them? The new doggo looks mush 😢 hoping but not expecting much really
I don't think Hardcore is viable for ARK. Like what if you bring your character that you played with from Island to extinction, do you lose EVERYTHING on all maps if you die ONCE?
I hope the update will actually be for a good reason and not just to make it look better because I have limited space and I would rather delete ark then delete anything else
I say this with every fraction of respect: but if Wildcard has any sense they should Disown the Animated Series from their games as much as physically possible. it has absolutely no respect for its source material and reeks of a DEI quota mess. and if you haven't seen the numbers those do not sell well. retcon your show to match your game, not the other way around. the ark notes had a Nuance to them that the show could not or refused to capture yes the other tribes saw Nerva as a Conquering warlord but New Legion and Rockwell to an extent saw him as a Visionary trying to bring order and civilization to an untamed land and in Rockwell's case, he was an 1800's scientist, human testing was part of the process back then, and also giving the time period him being a little bit sexist also makes sense. as for Helena, she mentioned the fact that she worked at Kakadu national park in one of her notes, so my guess is that she Lived in Darwin, either way make her Caucasian as she was, if you wanted an aboriginal character you should have made her girlfriend aboriginal. Race swapping is creatively bankrupt and lazy.
so, basically it going be March for the new UE update and its now 5.5. ugh, guess I'm sticking with ASE then. I prob need to upgrade PC anyway but that ain't happening anytime soon. Also, sorry Raas, I'm someone on ASE and think its better, but wild babies isn't something that excites me. I'm not a fan of wild babies as it makes taming way to easy.
Content alone won't magically draw players from ASE to ASA. The disparity in player numbers between the two games can be attributed to several factors. ASA is an extremely demanding game, and as a result, thousands of players struggle to run it at a playable level due to its lack of optimization. While the upcoming 5.5 update may improve this and provide a more stable experience, only time will tell if it’s enough to attract people from ASE To ASA. Let's hope it makes a difference.
@@Alecup06 Yes, a new map release brings back players who stopped playing we see that with every map release. I don't believe the majority of people switch from ASE to ASA just because of a new map release.

They need to allow us to turn off the frame gen again. It's effecting performance pretty terribly and it's on by default. It boosts the frames by a bit, but it adds hitching and stuttering.
There is a way to turn it off someone found out but I don't know how they did it
r.fidelityfx.fi.enabled 0
that disables it
I love ARK, but the massive performance issues that comes with the game that haven't been resolved, but continue to release controversial content (P2W etc.) really puts me off investing time into this game. Pessimistically, I can't see this upgrade to UE 5.5 actually improving performance.
Seems unlike Wildcard to skip any performance update 😉
my idea, is that like Extinction they are going to introduce a new gameplay mechanic similar to the OSD raid fights.
Didn’t its start at 5.3 the. 5.4 now 5.5. Will be 6 by release
I still haven't been able to play this game since release. Constant freeze/crashes keep me from playing and I tried everything but can't fix it.
Haven’t played ASA since launch because of the performance. Hope this 5.5 UE will help.
the idea of a hardcore experience on ark of all games terrifies me bc ark isnt exactly bug free
I mean “pretty close” and “next year” is pretty damn close when you see he posted that on Dec 20…
Well what's the point of new engine if they will do the push to next engine when it will be released so it will be endless push.
Not a new engine, update to a newer version of the current engine.
They did the same thing with ASE. They periodically updated the engine to take advantage of new features and performance gains. Nearly every game does this, they just don't state it openly.
Wildcard is blowing smoke up our asses about UE5.5
It gives them breathing room. They can push the release back when needed.
i would play ASA but cant handle it, hope they get some actual good optimization so i can play 😭😭
1. I don't understand why it's taking so long for flyer babies when we literally just had featherlights and their babies flying around on abb
2. i'm not playing any version of hardcore with a game that literally has you fall through the map while driving a car
Lazy Devs
That happened to me last night lost a 145 deino sucbus and 100 ele 😂 they should just have the mesh trigger a teleport to a recent coordinate on the map
Ark has been around for 10+ years and they still haven't come up with a UI that surpasses a 90s mac
How much will this one cost?
Is the performance increase only client side? Because it's mostly the servers that suck...
Anyone else experiencing a memory leak with Ark, my usage goes from 7gb to 28gb when playing and ark is saying it's only using 11gb, nothing else shows a usage that could explain the other 10gb
What if we are going to erat after extinction and HLNA helps us respawn?
Wildcard can barely handle this current engine
The creep of animated series into the game is confusing. What or who is Bob? What's up with the mention of Rockwell trying to 'revive a loved one' which isn't (and shouldn't be, his char is fine already) in the game? Confused AF on those fronts
I was in the thread of the flyers. Asked about nests. Flyers most likely won’t have one by Jats reply. Big sad.
Scuzzy mentioned: 🤩
They can add as much as they want to ASA, if people can't run the game, the ASE playerbase will not move over.
Great video though Raas, thanks as always
I regret honestly getting asa it's permanent crashes freezing disconnects/freezing lagging I permanently run at 360 + ping on a eu server 😊
@@sandornagy3484 shitty wifi lol but the crashes are a issue but I haven't delt with a lot mostly rare AF
@Alecup06 actually not every other game i play is 160 to 220 ping worst case don't know why I'm hitting 360 average on ark (south africa connecting to europe)
the people who actually cant run the game are just people who are really stubborn, they either A. have low end hardware from 7+ years ago, B. expect to run the game on high settings with anything that isnt from this generation of hardware or C. dont want to use upscaling and framegen. basically any pc from the past 5 years can get 60 fps at 1080p mediumish settings with a bit of upscaling and framegen
and when it comes to consoles its just people too stubborn to upgrade their console from 2012
this is getting ridiculous i play on ps5 every time i try to play now it crashes immediately after hitting start game. I've updated every mod deactiveted a few it worked for a day now wont work again i'm so tired of them constantly breaking everything, any suggestions?
Dino depot caused me to crash immediately
Lol, didn't I tell you a few videos back that they wouldn't do the 5.4 and instead they'll push it back and say it's because they want to do 5.5 for megalights because...WC is so predictable when you wake up and stop giving them the benefit of the doubt given their track record. Hell, this might be another PS5 next gen upgrade story all over again which shouldn't surprise anyone.
Fully agreed
Most sml/med creatures in my game have low res textures but the bigger creatures are great looking. Do you think this UE upgrade will fix them? The new doggo looks mush 😢 hoping but not expecting much really
Cant wait for the new game called ARK Survival Transcended
I don't think Hardcore is viable for ARK. Like what if you bring your character that you played with from Island to extinction, do you lose EVERYTHING on all maps if you die ONCE?
I hope the update will actually be for a good reason and not just to make it look better because I have limited space and I would rather delete ark then delete anything else
I say this with every fraction of respect:
but if Wildcard has any sense they should Disown the Animated Series from their games as much as physically possible. it has absolutely no respect for its source material and reeks of a DEI quota mess. and if you haven't seen the numbers those do not sell well.
retcon your show to match your game, not the other way around. the ark notes had a Nuance to them that the show could not or refused to capture
yes the other tribes saw Nerva as a Conquering warlord but New Legion and Rockwell to an extent saw him as a Visionary trying to bring order and civilization to an untamed land
and in Rockwell's case, he was an 1800's scientist, human testing was part of the process back then, and also giving the time period him being a little bit sexist also makes sense.
as for Helena, she mentioned the fact that she worked at Kakadu national park in one of her notes, so my guess is that she Lived in Darwin, either way make her Caucasian as she was, if you wanted an aboriginal character you should have made her girlfriend aboriginal. Race swapping is creatively bankrupt and lazy.
they have not fix fps problems with base game and yet they moving to new engine with all those problems coming together
Engine Upgrade.. all i can see more Crash, Bugs, Lags, and Unending Repair Update
I'll believe it once i see it
so, basically it going be March for the new UE update and its now 5.5. ugh, guess I'm sticking with ASE then. I prob need to upgrade PC anyway but that ain't happening anytime soon.
Also, sorry Raas, I'm someone on ASE and think its better, but wild babies isn't something that excites me. I'm not a fan of wild babies as it makes taming way to easy.
My Xbox already can’t even handle anything with ASA
ASE stopped being better than ASA awhile ago lmao
Scuzzy getting a raasclark shout-out. 😂
Bro ark taking up so much space already please wildcard!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Content alone won't magically draw players from ASE to ASA. The disparity in player numbers between the two games can be attributed to several factors. ASA is an extremely demanding game, and as a result, thousands of players struggle to run it at a playable level due to its lack of optimization. While the upcoming 5.5 update may improve this and provide a more stable experience, only time will tell if it’s enough to attract people from ASE To ASA. Let's hope it makes a difference.
Also it requires an upgraded console. Many people can't or won't buy a 500$ upgrade...
Except it did lots of players on ASA
@@ChrisSmith-ew9fp its 350 on ebay used so there's a way to get and the ps4 and old xbox will get discontinued on 2025
@@Alecup06 Yes, a new map release brings back players who stopped playing we see that with every map release. I don't believe the majority of people switch from ASE to ASA just because of a new map release.
Dang saw the title and was hyped they might move away from UE :(
The one that was supposed to come out with abberation 🤣💩
what is clear is that no matter what change they make rendering on consoles will always be garbage.
Has WC ever released anything that required them to actually huddle with eachother to form a braincell? Probably not dog devs
So now that they say 5.5 is coming it will be 3 quarter of 2025..
what about every time u die u loose levels
It wouldn't be hardcore, it'll be a new system that goes into ark 2 since how are we dying on a new planet not governed by humans
"Coming 2025" *december 2025*
Are they gonna charge us for it?
At this point I believe this supposed 5.5 update won't be out till 2026 and WC Will charge us. I don't believe a single thing wc says
Not how it works 😂
It’ll be out in 2030 and we still gunna run at 30fps😂
Oh you mean they can update to 5.5 without a new game? funny how they couldnt do that before...

Ase is defintly still more playable then Asa, Asa is still beyond broken in singleplayer and host-nonededicated and ofcourse officals does work so well its rlly annoying. but i don't play on offical i can't take offical seriously at all
Lets not buy the new dlc if there is no engine upgrade first!!! \o/
Content is indeed not everything, Fix the games crashing
I want hardcore¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another 30$ purchase for nicer graphics lmao
