As someone that used to work at Taco Bell, I would honestly say avoid anything but beef, and regular chicken for meats. Exception is the meats during rush hours. It's usually fresh because you're actually using the stuff. This goes for slower restaurants ~ You're only supposed to keep stuff for 4 hours, but that never happens. After 4 hours, you just change the sticker in case an inspector walks in (which they never do, except once or twice a year, and we're told beforehand). And that really depends if your restraunt even care. Some don't even put hinges and lids on them and really don't give a fuck, prioritizing speed over quality (cross contamination is a VERY real thing at Taco Bell). The issue is, they never throw food out. So if you're ordering shit late at night, if it's not chicken or beef, it WILL be old and disgusting. My manager used to take boiling water and put it in shit just because it got so disgusting and crusty (which you should never do).
Avoid Black Beans at ALLLLL costs. They sit on line all day, and are so fucking disgusting. Boiling water folks. Or you'd be eating the desert.

the one food i say to avoid is the chicken salad sandwich at Chick fil a. it is made of bits of the chicken strips and sandwiches that were held too long and weren't sold. they are put in a plastic bin in the fridge and then torn up and de-breaded the next day for chicken salad.
also, it is the highest calorie thing on the menu

Also the Chipotle thing is BS, they'll just shift you back in line and help the next person while the quesadilla is pressing, so the added wait time only really affects the person ordering and whoever gets stuck watching the quesadilla press. Same thing with people who order fourteen burritos. If anything, any competent employee will be able to handle that no problem while someone else helps the next customer.

I work in food service and can verify the soda machine thing. I might be able to clean it maybe three times a week, and I swear nobody else does it.

I work at Tim Horton's as a baker/baker's assistant and literally no Tim's bakes donuts fresh. Our training material, which are online videos, are all about reheating frozen product in our ovens. You have to understand that even smaller stores like mine are pumping out hundreds of donuts and timbits a day. A DAY. There's literally no possible way we could prepare the dough for all of that, not to mention the fact that we'd need deepfriers in-store, which are dangerous as hell. Same for any of our other breakfast like sausage, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns - it all comes to us frozen - and I might tell somebody not to eat the eggs, but that's because they feel rubbery and gross after they've gone through the oven. If you like it though, there's nothing WRONG with eating it. Things like what happen in those shock-comedies about foodservice like Waiting literally don't happen in real life. You would get fired if you did it, and probably sued or fined heavily.
Also: Newsflash, call the President. FAST-FOOD IS BAD FOR YOU. Not just because it's loaded with empty calories, sugars, carbs, and a whole bunch of garbage, but because who knows what really goes into their production. I'd take a closer look at the factories that make and freeze these things before I looked at the actual storefronts.
**edit**: On the topic of 'don't order things because the employees and other customers will hate you if it takes too long.': You're under the impression that I don't already hate you for existing in my space and asking me to make your donut or your coffee already. I do. I hate each and every customer, no matter how simple or complicated their order is. The simple fact is large orders are an inconveniece, but oh well, that's what I'm getting paid for. Do I think you need five dozen donuts out the drive-thru? No. Do I think you probably should have called ahead first and placed and order rather than just running through and essentially buying every donut in my showcase? Yes. But not everybody is considerate, and that's just fucking life. Oh well. Besides, whether I hate you for your order or not, does it fucking matter?

Alex Krasny Yeah, I'm going to school full-time right now for Computer Info. Sys., and I've been applying to other places, but I like having a car, and internet and food too much to quit.
