Thanks for posting this dude! So much better than paying Jiffy Lube $100.
np, glad we could help.
Thanks for the DIY videos and good job! Ima do this on my 96 ek hatch
Ron Sinson thx!
I don’t know if I can trust a guy wearing flip flops 😛
I thought that's what you're suppose to wear in the hood no? lol
Its called a jiggle valve and you installed it wrong. It should on the bottom not the top.
Green would piss me off as well! How long do Thermostats last? Would it me an idea to change as well?
not sure how long it can last, but you want to change it out the same time you change the water pump, which is around 120k miles.
just run distilled water through to flush then drain and fill
nice video hey quick question, on my 95 Honda accord besides the radiator draining should I also loosen up the drain plug on the engine block underneath the car and get that coolant out as well?? thanks
if you can reach it and remove it, you can but not necessary. We couldn't reach ours so we just do the regular drain and refill through the petcock.
Main question why drain coolant from reservoir and radiator first, then flush with water, then drain coolant from thermostat, then fill up with oem coolant? Can I drain all three- reservoir, radiator, and thermostat, flush with water, drain all of that and thenn refill with oem coolant?
We’re getting rid of all of fhe old coolant in the system and replenishing it with new oem coolant.
So I changed my thermostat but no coolant goes to my motor and will still overheat, know what might be wrong? Should I change the head gasket and water pump?
Yooo sincerely appreciate it. Hella helpful.
can you use a water hose to flush out the system after removing the thermostat?
Yeah you can, but after doing that fill it with distilled water and run it for a few minutes then drain it to flush everything out before putting in the final coolant, the reason you don't want to use tap water when getting it hot is because of the minerals/calcium in the water can clog up the heater core etc, but just spraying it through the system before the distilled water goes in shouldn't matter at all.
what did you use to clean the coolant reservoir?
+pawkyyy brake clean, then rinse it with water.
+NutzAboutBolts thanks. what is the purpose of taking out the thermostat? i have a head gasket oil leak on my 97' civic ex and i'm going to use k&w permanent metallic block seal. the first step says to remove thermostat and radiator cap, and then replace thermostat housing. i'm kinda confused
+pawkyyy probably just to drain the coolant.
Did the thermostat housing have a gasket? Or just for the thermostat?
Will this get all the block antifreeze out too? Or do i need to take the block drain plug out to get it out from block?
Okay thanks! yeah on my 95 accord with the V6 engine my repair manual said there's actually 2 Drain bolts on the block, one in the front and another about about 10 inches back, I just did the drain and refill like you did. I wonder how much coolant is actually in the block??
I doubt its significant to worry about, they said the same thing with the prius and rarely any fluids came out.
Would it be easier to just turn the car on with the Radiator Hole open?
Isn't there a drain bolt on the front side of the engine?
+the7mad9cap7laughs there is but there's no room for us to use a breaker bar to remove the bolt on the engine block. Draining it through the radiator is better for DIY at home and then draining it from the thermostat housing to get more of the coolant out from the engine.
NutzAboutBolts While I'm at it would it best to replace the thermostat then? I've been overheating lately and not sure what exactly's causing it. I drove on the freeway 65-75mph and everything was fine but 3 minutes within getting off driving around >35mph I started overheating.
My coolant was brown so I flushed (only the) radiator (wasn't positive of the drain plug) and there was gunk in the reservoir so I thought maybe it was clogging the radiator. The fluid's still dirty-ish since I only flushed half but I'm still overheating and starting to think there's an issue with the fan maybe not coming on..
+the7mad9cap7laughs it might be the fan switch. typical symptom when its broken.
NutzAboutBolts Thank you for replying, I did a flush today with a bottle of cleaner and let it circulate for about 25 minutes and it never overheated so I haven't been able to tell if the fan's working or not yet.
Went for a drive afterwards and the temp stayed regular but when I popped my hood after I got home there was some coolant that sprayed around the bay a little but I'm guessing it was just from overfilling the radiator and reservoir and once heated up just got gushed out the res. cap drain. Nothing appears to be leaking while idling and my reservoir and radiator's still full.
I just find it strange how it's only overheating sometimes.. the other day I drove around for half an hour and completely fine, come home and went for another drive later and drove fine for 20 minutes but within a few minutes of getting off the freeway it started to heat up. Let it cool off, drove around the city a little then got back on the freeway to come home and right as I pull into my driveway the heat gauge starts to shoot up. Perplexing.. thanks for the info anyhow, very helpful!
+the7mad9cap7laughs Do a coolant leak down test and see if there are any leaks. Check to make sure your radiator fan works.
what is wrong with the green coolant?
not for aluminium components
Where did you get the adapter funnel
good video, just one question. is it necessary to remove the thermostat to drain all the coolant and please what type of coolant do you recommend for this vehicle?
Roberto Guilen yes because the the coolant behind the thermostats is the engine block. We recommmend oem unless he find an alternative.
@@NutzAboutBolts OK thanks
i'm currently adding water because the coolant goes away faast, but what i'm curious about is when adding water./ coolant shouldn't i turn on the car as im pouring int
.?
+★ Ally_Woo | CSGO & More what are you trying to accomplish?
my question was should i turn on the car whenever adding coolant/water in the radiator?
+★ Ally_Woo | CSGO & More no.
this apply for a new radiator installation ? for the beginning ?
if you're installing a new radiator, you can drain the coolant and install the new radiator. Then refill and bleed the coolant system.
Thank you for the video.
Çok teşekkürler beyfendi. Güzel çalışma
Hey that’s the Bay Area
3WBY343 is the license plate ;)
engines ONLY suck water from the side bottle as an engine cools
About how many litres is it to fill the system?
in your owners manual I think
How much was the Honda coolant?
around 20$ I think, that's just a ball park.
Did you have to go to a Honda dealership for it?
winchester auto and Napa auto part sells them. You can also get them at the dealership. Ask around to compare prices.
bt how much you payed for it
Gerson Bahena 20$
this is stupid im just flushing it and putting new coolant not all this extra shit
+Captain Erwin You can do that, we just did this since we wanted to completely flush the old green coolant out and replace it with blue Honda coolant.
