  • "War Pony" follows the interlocking stories of two young Oglala Lakota men growing up on the Pine Ridge Reservation. At 23, Bill just wants to make something of himself. Whether it’s delivering goods or breeding Poodles, he is determined to hustle his way to the “American Dream”. Meanwhile, 12-year-old Matho can’t wait to become a man. Desperate for approval from his young father, a series of impulsive decisions turns Matho’s life upside down and he finds himself unequipped to deal with the harsh realities of the adult world. Bound by their shared search for belonging, each of the boys grapple with identity, family, and loss, as they navigate their unique paths to manhood.
Watch the Red Carpet Highlights from Riley Keough and Gina Gammell's feature directorial debuts of War Pony. Plus a post-screening Q&A with the cast and crew at the 2023 SXSW Film & TV Festival.

Why don’t Natives tell their own stories? I understand the writers are native, but for these weirdo directors and cinematographer to take credit for this seems disingenuous to say the least. And these Native actors just don’t know better, taken for the ride. These people are just using them and trying to take the Chloe Zhao train to Hollywood, which is disgusting in my own humble Lakota opinion.

That seems like a a diagnosis without the proper diagnosis! You put that statement together from what? t A small minded emotional response with no data! Like a person bitching about racism, stereotyping when every phrase out there mouth being racist, stereotyping!? They are just to ignorant to realize they're the issue, themselves!! Are you a little college child, a professor, a victim or a person with a undeveloped and/or defective mind? See there I go with the stereotyping ! Nobody is perfect, I guess?

it is a exchange. it is difficult to make a film. you need well known names to get it off the ground.
