  • Throw away your looper! Haha. I know it seems extreme, and I love loopers, but Ableton live does everything a looper can do much better. If you dig the looper, that's cool, but check out Ableton Live and I hope you dig this video! Please hit me up with questions.

    What a great lesson! I just gave up on my intro ableton version because I wanted to practice guitar. I downloaded cakewalk but this lesson may have me returning to abelton after seeing how easy it really is.

      Daniel Seriff Thanks! I have the intro version of ableton, but I am wondering what you think is the easiest daw for guitar players to use, practice and do some basic home recording with? Having basic drum beats is a requirement👍

    With a looper pedal you can create your loop live , so everything is live and by feel (not pre recorded) So I would suggest not throwing away your loop pedal.

      Titles can be a bit extreme on UA-cam. That being said, many many many guitarists should be trying to improve their rhythm with real drummers rather than practicing with their bad time.

      You could also do what you're describing with Ableton in real time.

    What does wet, dry, wet signal mean?

    • @DanielSeriffMusic
      @DanielSeriffMusic  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. Essentially I am plugging into drive pedals before the amp. I save all the delay and verbs for after. I have a signal that’s drive/amp only which is considered “dry.” The. I have a left and right wet signal which ha s a lot of verb and delay.

      Hey bud. Older video from over 3 years ago. The new ones are much more succinct. If you'd like to get the quick and straightforward one...this one is more recent and very straightforward. ua-cam.com/video/vYA3Smn2B50/v-deo.html

      @@DanielSeriffMusic yes! Thank you so much 🙏 that video is very straightforward and very well put together!
      May I make one request to expand on the newer video? You've created a looped scene, but how can you implement a different chord pattern for the same song, also are there ways to trigger a drum fill leading into that change. This has been my hang up for quite some time and this video has gotten me the closest to the solution. Thanks mate

    May I ask? Would you be kind enough to explain in detail your signal path from your guitar onward please? It is so important to have a sound that's inspiring to begin the process of learning and it can be tricky with computers/latency etc
    .......I couldn't understand what you said there (2 rock traditional clean 100 watt mode? Dry signal going into your OXBUS? sorry -too many years of standing in front of loud monitors))
    Also-do you do anything with the monitoring in Ableton-latency and all that? I thought this recent vid regarding the 'proper' way to record real instruments into Ableton was a huge help-

      Hey Chuck! Thanks for the message. Guitar goes into the Universal Audio Ox Box. 1 output goes directly into my tube pre from there which goes to my Universal Audio Apollo. It's my "dry" signal. The other output of the OX goes to my "wet" chain. First a Strymon Volante, then 2 outputs (Left and Right) GFI Specular Tempus, then 2 ouptuts to my Strymon Big Sky. It goes out of the Big Sky into two channels on my tube preamp. This is a complex and somewhat unnecessary setup but it allows me complete flexibility for recordin wet and dry and mixing later. I have zero problems with latency in recording because I monitor directly with the UAD Apollo. The latency in the video is only caused by the screen recording program. It's not actually happening in real time. Haven't found a screen recording program that doesn't cause that problem yet. But, for recording it's not a problem, everything is perfectly synced. Have a nice day!

    Hey Daniel, can you share with us the device you use to start recording and playback etc? Are you using a foot controller or keyboard midi controller?

    • @DanielSeriffMusic

      You can really use any midi programmer. However, I like to use the Keith McMillar Softstep. It works amazingly well!

    You were right the first time. Throw away your looper - it's the most anti-creative device ever devised. Makes you live in musical repetition and takes you away from musical collaboration because you're so obsessed with doing it all yourself - and being seen as a genius by ignoramuses who think that only a genius could be doing it all. It's for posers, it's not composition.

      Yeah, life looping often seems boring because it makes a song really long. They record, then listen to it, then play etc. Maybe it's sometimes useful to take more time when you are playing background music. But I prefer playing songs like the original, without spending time on repeats. Also, I hate songs that repeat four chords all the song, and these seem to be the best for live looping.

    • @Peaceful_Days
      @Peaceful_Days 9 місяців тому

      Live looping is a good tool if used minimalistically without making a song long and repetitive though. For example, I use it when playing solo acoustic gigs to have some rhythm to play a guitar solo on top of it. If a song uses the same chords in a verse, for example, I record one of the verses, press stop, keep playing. When it's time to play the solo, I press play and play the solo on top of the rhythm. I particularly looked for a looper that allows to record and stop, not only play it immediately after recording, so that I don't noodle around listening to my loop for 30 seconds.

    • @andoletube
      @andoletube 9 місяців тому

      @@Peaceful_Days I can respect that use-case. 👍
