    That would also work great using scotch-bright pads if you make the disks a bit bigger, nice work, hand made always works better than having to buy them. :)

      That's a great idea. I've often been frustrated at the cost of buying replacements (for my Dremel) - the scotch-brite pads do a good job but don't last long.

      While we are talking about make things, when you use the typical 2" angle grinder sanding disks of any grit, when the edges are worn and don't work anymore, cut them down to 1" disks and they will work like new again. Of course you will need a 1" disk holder, but it works. And I found that cutting them down is so easy on a bench grinder from the back side of them...

      @@Quwoll Indeed. I use a Dremel a lot for armory in the sport of fencing, and changing the wheels out is a pain sometimes.

      The tool usually is cutting before the center of the part, there i cut it behind the center

      It was so that he could use the side of the platter to chamfer the end instead of turning the compound rest at that angle and use the tip of the platter. Definitely faster than having to reallign the compound rest (wich can be quite a pain in the neck) afterwards. He's a clever one. :)

    I know it will never be the same, but it took me ten minutes to go to a supply store got a bag of small Dremel buffing wheels and I was on my way, Thank's for the video, I just don't have access to NASA'S machine shop!

    Very nice. I assume you could use a nut if you don't have a lathe. Less clamping area in the Dremel Chuck but there is no torque on it so...?

      No, not at all. Just a waste of time and unnecessary, it's like shaving your beard before going to the barber shop.

      @@ArniVidar only paint and dirt. That would make the sand unneccessary dirty, which is very expensive.

      I would have made a template from paper, measured and marked the centre for a small hole. Old habits from woodwork classes at school, a half-century ago...
      We don't see things being measured, it must be happening.

    Do you use the punch tool over metal surface? I always use it over wood/cardboard because i'm afraid of damaging/unsharp it
    It is safe for the tool to do so?

      It's actually black plastic, never use it on metal as it will get dull just by one hit.

      @@mymechanicsinsights Thanks!! That's a really big chunk of plastic!! The problem with cardboard or wood is that you loose a lot of "cutting force" when the surface gets "marked" by the tool. I guess it make sense to use hard plastic that don't mark as much and don't hurt the tool also

    Just came across this, nice video. For those of us without a metal lathe, I would think we could do something similar with a hex or lag bolt, as long as it is balanced.

      My cheapo rotary tool came with one and the little pads. This is like planting wheat to make croutons for your salad.

    Do they make (or can you make) a similar tool except it would load with sandpaper? Not a stone. But like a small version of a flap disc sander?

      my mechanics insights I love restoring my metal detecting finds and I've always found myself in need of something that wasn't as harsh as a stone, but smaller than a flap disc, for use in small spaces. Not extremely small spaces, but I think you get the picture.
