That would also work great using scotch-bright pads if you make the disks a bit bigger, nice work, hand made always works better than having to buy them. :)
That's a great idea. I've often been frustrated at the cost of buying replacements (for my Dremel) - the scotch-brite pads do a good job but don't last long.
While we are talking about make things, when you use the typical 2" angle grinder sanding disks of any grit, when the edges are worn and don't work anymore, cut them down to 1" disks and they will work like new again. Of course you will need a 1" disk holder, but it works. And I found that cutting them down is so easy on a bench grinder from the back side of them...

Really slick , nice work on the arbor . You've got a lot of patience , but that's what you need to do the level of perfection that shows in your projects . Thanks for showing how its done .
Nothing like starting with a 13 mm rod and turning it into a 3 mm screw! I'm always amazed at the talent in these videos. Wish I had that array of machines.

It was so that he could use the side of the platter to chamfer the end instead of turning the compound rest at that angle and use the tip of the platter. Definitely faster than having to reallign the compound rest (wich can be quite a pain in the neck) afterwards. He's a clever one. :)

I would really love for you to give us a tour of your workshop in one of your next videos. I'd be interested in what tools you have and what you think are the essentials for getting started with machining and restoration.
I know it will never be the same, but it took me ten minutes to go to a supply store got a bag of small Dremel buffing wheels and I was on my way, Thank's for the video, I just don't have access to NASA'S machine shop!
I am really enjoying all of the videos. I would like to see how you measure diameters while you are turning metal stock. I would appreciate tips on using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments. Thank you
I would have made a template from paper, measured and marked the centre for a small hole. Old habits from woodwork classes at school, a half-century ago... We don't see things being measured, it must be happening.
Do you use the punch tool over metal surface? I always use it over wood/cardboard because i'm afraid of damaging/unsharp it It is safe for the tool to do so?
@@mymechanicsinsights Thanks!! That's a really big chunk of plastic!! The problem with cardboard or wood is that you loose a lot of "cutting force" when the surface gets "marked" by the tool. I guess it make sense to use hard plastic that don't mark as much and don't hurt the tool also
That black plastic block u mentioned did its job very well. Very interesting tool attachment created in the video👌. I wanted to know details of the punch tool, the make and the link from I can buy. THANKS.
Just came across this, nice video. For those of us without a metal lathe, I would think we could do something similar with a hex or lag bolt, as long as it is balanced.
my mechanics insights I love restoring my metal detecting finds and I've always found myself in need of something that wasn't as harsh as a stone, but smaller than a flap disc, for use in small spaces. Not extremely small spaces, but I think you get the picture.

That would also work great using scotch-bright pads if you make the disks a bit bigger, nice work, hand made always works better than having to buy them. :)

does anyone know, which rotary tool it is? i need a new one :(
@@mymechanicsinsights can you tell us which rotary tool it is? I would like one too. Maybe I make a new one

Probably it's has been already asked, but could you please let me know what brand/model is that "Dremel" like hand tool?
Minimo is the name of the manufacturer... He replied in one of the earlier comments.
Excellent.
Many thanks!
Very good, man !!! 👍👍👍
One quick question: what was the purpose of changing rotation direction at 1:28?
Frederico Chaves i guess to achieve a smoother surface!
The tool usually is cutting before the center of the part, there i cut it behind the center

hey there! I just keep watching your videos. Can you make a video about sandblasting? is removing rust before sandblasting gets better results?
No, not at all. Just a waste of time and unnecessary, it's like shaving your beard before going to the barber shop.

@@ArniVidar only paint and dirt. That would make the sand unneccessary dirty, which is very expensive.
