Let's be frank Ukraine never existed as a cohesive nation state until the USSR collpased. During a brief period of WW1 there was a Hetman installed to govern Ukraine under occupation of the central powers while Russia was losing. Even during that time the majority of people in Kiev spoke russian and Ukrainian was a dialect of those on the fringes of the territory. Please read the history of the region, it's not as simple as Russia bad, Russia good. Always with Honor by Pyotr Wrangel is a great book to start educating yourself. Dwelling on the past is not only senseless, but might cause war. And you need to realize that all this situation isn't really about territory and what's right or wrong, but about money and power. Putin & co. couldn't care less about Ukraine... But money and power, those are high on the list of their interests. I also think that it's not fair to talk about "Russia" here, it's not fair towards Russian people, as most of them don't want this crap either. It's all politicians and warmonger militant assholes steering the pot.
