Hi Tom, Thanks a lot for this video. I have been uploading some audio podcasts on Indian Classical Music on my YT channel for a year now, and someone recently suggested me to using Anchor to so that I upload on Spotify. It was difficult/overwhelming to browse through blogs to understand about it. Your video simplified the whole process from uploading podcast to distributing the podcasts. Reasons I liked your video : 1. Its precise and covers all the necessary aspects (even the terms and conditions, whether its paid or free) 2. And for someone starting out, you also covered, how can one upload the videos 3. And most importantly, you have used it for around 2+ years - that made your video very organic and authentic. Thanks again!
I'm so happy to hear this, thank you! I'm really glad to know that the video was helpful, and I truly appreciate the feedback as to _why_ it was helpful. 🙏
Thanks for this video. Specially for explain very clear "the rights" of Anchor. I have a Podcast on Audioboom and i want to move it to Anchor but i was afraid of. Now im gonna do it!
@@tombuck what is another one that doesn't have the insane user agreement that Spotify has initiated in Anchor? Just did a trial run with Anchor. Needless to say that it will be just that. A trial. It isn’t ideal platform for DJ mixes. If you get nailed for copyright infringement, forget about 1, 2 3 strikes. You literally are erased. I wish Mixcloud had a podcast component.
Thank you so much for this review! It was enough for me to go ahead and choose anchor. I started with other hosts but got stuck trying to connect them to my domain etc. I feel so relieved now to say, I'm going ahead with anchor and it is going to be finally published!
So glad to hear it! Good luck with your podcast! And the good news is that if you ever do want to switch at some point, it’s a pretty easy process, so don’t stress too much over it. Anchor is a great choice 👍
Great video! I'm starting my podcast soon and I researched all the other podcast services out there. Anchor fits the bill and offers everything you need!
This is one of the BEST “HOW TO’s” I have ever seen. Clear. Understandable. Pacing. G-d Bless u r a teacher! 👏👏👏 what program did u use to record ur video, focusing on the screen to highlight? What u use road caster pro for? THANK U AMAZING 🙏
Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly and in a short amount of time. I love how the video is broken into sections as well, but I listened to the whole thing to the end, and the time flew by quick. I appreciate the information! Also, that joke at the end was everything! Lol, love jokes like that 😅
I wasn't aware of anchor! Thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention! I had the idea of making a podcast in the back of my head, but I wasn't actively planning on it. Now I can't wait to start, thanks to you! One thing that although I can find in other videos but I would also love to hear your perspective as well, is how you structure you podcasts. I see that using seasons is a thing, but I don't really get how many episodes a season should have, should the number of episodes be consistent? How often the episodes should be posted, what is the sweet spot of each episode length, and other questions as well. It would be great if you made a video discussing those things :)
That's a great question and definitely a good idea for a video topic! A lot of it comes down to personal preference along with what your show is about/how often you post. I have 4 podcasts and only one of them is divided by seasons, and that's my personal one (The Enthusiasm Project). I'm not sure why I chose this number, but I do 21 episode runs and then take a break before jumping in to a new season. While the whole series is pretty cohesive, the different seasons each focus a little more specifically on certain themes or topics and it seems like 21 episodes is more than enough to explore things thoroughly before moving on.
First! edit: also thought I'd let you to know that I ended up buying the SM58 as my first XLR mic setup thanks to one of your previous videos. Subbed since!
It's a great way to jump in! My advice would definitely be not to overthink it. It's incredibly easy to switch podcast hosts down the line, so you're not committing permanently to anything. The most important thing is to get started! 👍
I enjoyed this breakdown of anchor, I been podcasting for 7 years. For free uploading to SoundCloud & it distributes everywhere. It is a pretty big podcast called Church For The Wild, but we play music in between our episodes so we can’t monetize off of it. So as I’m starting over i’m definitely leading towards anchor.
The only real downside in my opinion is Anchor's connection to Spotify, but that's hugely subjective and I only feel that way because I don't personally like Spotify's approach to podcasting. But Anchor as a service is great.
Sounds great. I hadn't actually heard of this host before. I checked out their page and it sounds like the best place to host a podcast now. I was curious about how they made their money and you have to dig a bit to find out, but at the very end of an article about the subject written by the CTO of Anchor he reveals that they make their money much like UA-cam does. When a podcast makes money from ads, they get a portion of that revenue. I think that's fair and it allows them to provide their service for free, and it also encourages them to help podcasts make as much money and to be as successful as they can. Plus in the article the CTO makes some good points about how much other podcast hosts are still charging for their services. For anyone interested you can find the article by going to the website, click on Features at the top of the page, click on the Unlimited Free Hosting item, then click on Read More. This is where I'll be hosting my podcasts from now on.
Thanks for sharing the info! I actually sent them an email and they told me the same thing- their money comes from ad revenue, which seems very fair to me (and I don't run ads on my podcast, so I guess I'm just a freeloader 😬
There might be 2 issues here: One is that they can insert their own audio sponsorships within your podcast and they could be annoying ads that may scare away your audience, and the other issue is that by granting them rights of distribution you may not be able to transfer your older podcasts to a different platform if you decide to do so in the future.
I'm excited to record my first podcast episode soon. As someone who's openly gay, a cosplayer, and on the Autism spectrum, I want to be an inspiration to everyone in the LGBTQ+ community, the cosplay community, and the Autism community.
Great information, and well done! How did you get such good sound quality in this video without a visible mic? Highlight for me: the joke at the end. That was good.
Hey thanks a lot for this video. Its very helpful. I am about to upload my first podcast and was trying to choose between spreaker and anchor but after watching your video, I think I'll give anchor a try. Thanks again
Thanks so much for all the great information. It's really helpful. I've been doing UA-cam videos (mainly using audio with pictures) for a long time for my ministry, and I've known I needed to get some podcasts out there as well, but for some reason, podcasting seemed more intimidating than the videos. Your video helped a lot.
I'm so glad it helped! Podcasting is really fun, and if you've already got the UA-cam side of things under control, it should end up being a simpler process overall. Podcasting is definitely it's own world, but I've found it much less daunting than UA-cam.
It's totally worth it! And when you're just starting out there likely won't be a ton of people listening, which is actually a good thing since it means you don't have to feel like you're in the spotlight right from the start.
Great video! All my questions were answered except one: When I edit UA-cam videos I use iMovie, and I know that you can also edit audio in that editing service as well. Can I record my podcast in iMovie with a mic and then upload it to Anchor?
I’m not 100% sure, but I think that when you export in iMovie you can select an “audio only” option (at least this is how Final Cut works). However, editing only audio in video software can be clunky. I’d definitely recommend GarageBand if you haven’t tried it 👍
Hey thanks! As a fellow teacher, I have to say I love your channel. I have picked up Rode Caster Pro on your recommendation. I love it. Hope your year is finishing up ok... Mine is different than I expected, but still making a difference! Peace!
@@tombuckdo you know if there is a way to manage multiple podcasts through one account on Anchor? Or would you have to set up multiple accounts to do that?
Been watching your vids. Saw that youre also a teacher. Im a college teacher here in the Philippines and Im trying to level up my game in yt and podcast. Hopefully I can do it in full blast soon. Thanks for providing these vids in your channel. So helpful!
I loved this. Would you say that Anchor is used BEST for audio podcasts? Trying to decide if I should just post the audio version of my videos. #toomuchcontent
Haha, love the hashtag. For audio only, yes, Anchor is great- especially because it handles all of the distribution for you to the different podcast platforms. You can also have a separate UA-cam channel for the video version too. 👍

Hello, just came across your channel. Great stuff, thank you. I am wondering about this particular episode you mentioned obviously podcast and anchor however we are on UA-cam. So can you share what your process is between UA-cam versus a podcast?
The biggest difference has to do with video and RSS feeds. Obviously UA-cam is geared towards video, and isn’t a great place for an audio only podcast. But the bigger benefit of a host like Anchor is that you can submit your show’s RSS feed to all of the podcast platforms, making it easier for everyone to find it.
Hi Tom, hope you are well. Quick Question regarding Anchor. I have uploaded my WAV files, no editing, just straight from the Rodecaster Pro 2 output file and I notice that when uploaded the tone has changed ie: Less bass and they seem to sound more stereo, if you get my meaning. I have been listening to your Podcast this morning, and I think it has done this to yours also so this may just be the norm. I just want to make sure I am not missing something here, as Anchor is definitely a great platform so thanks for the tip, as I chose Anchor from watching this Video last year. thanks in advance.
Hey Paul! It's very likely that Anchor applies some of its own EQ to files once they're uploaded. There must be an option to disable it somewhere in your account. I've been using Buzzsprout for the past 2 years or so, but I do enable their "Magic Mastering" option, which just helps things sound a bit more uniform across different devices. Maybe that's what you're noticing?
@@tombuck so would you recommend Buzzsprout over Anchor or do you just mean this is another example for the way a provider changes the EQ? :-) it just makes it sound less Radio like with that brilliant bass the Rodecaster provides. I will check in the settings !! Thanks again Tom
I really like the youtube recommendation system 😂😂 I have an idea of making podcast content and I figured out: ohhhh I need to host it but where ?! 😅🤦♀️ nnd I see ur video clicking on it immediately 👍 Man thanks a lot for sure ❤ And If I could I have a question: Do u recommend an intro episode if my podcast is educational like describing what I will provide and how or it`s not important?
I like that youtube is recommending my videos 😁 And intro episode is up to you. It can definitely be a helpful way to offer some context and frame expectations, but also with podcasting, most people will listen to the newest episode first, so don’t stress too much about your intro as it will quickly get pushed down once you publish more episodes.
Bro thank you...I am literally about start a podcast and this video was super helpful. Thanks for sharing...I too enjoy the "domain actors" joke...as well as your subsequent explanation...good stuff man!🤣👍🏾
Great show thanks for the information. Got my Podmics yesterday and waiting for the Podcaster tomorrow! This covid interruption has given me a bit of time to listen to some UA-camrs and finally organise getting started. This episode was especially useful in pointing me towards Anchor - thanks again 👍
Hi Tom many thanks for your advices .I am an Italian Podcaster and not a youtuber, and I use Anchor since may 2020. and I'm so happy of it!My podcast is in English language and it called "Yes! Libertarian Free MArket Podcast. Just a question: how do you Upload you podcast ,I mean only audio/voice, on UA-cam? do you know free software or do you use a specifically command like RSS Feed to upload a podcast there? if you have some ideas I'll be very grateful to you. Your videos and your studio are Awesome! Greetings from ITaly.
Hey there! UA-cam just isn’t built for audio only, so as far as I know, there’s not a way to build a podcast RSS feed around it. Of course...I could be wrong 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for your great video - very helpful. I have a question: I wanted to upload a WAV format file of a whole podcast episode that I produced with Garageband. The file was larger than 250MB, however, so too large to upload. Do you usually upload separate WAV files or use the smaller MP3 format? Thanks a lot for your answer.
I've been planning that forever and just haven't done it for some reason. The short story is that while Anchor is an excellent service, I'm not a fan of Spotify's approach to podcasting in general. Buzzsprout is a huge proponent of open and independent podcasting, which I'm a big supporter of.
Great video. Very professional. Lighting, image (blurred background) and sound are of good level. And the content is interesting (to me at least 😁). Well done.
It seems to me that the only downside to Anchor is that if you let them "distribute" everything for you, you don't get your own account and access to analytics from services like iTunes and Stitcher. Those accounts are actually owned and managed by Anchor. But if you choose to set those services up yourself (really not that hard), you maintain ownership and management on those services and Anchor is merely your storage and host. And that is perfect for someone like me that has already done all that work coming from Buzzsprout which just showed me how to set up each service instead of doing it for me. It seems that if I simply submit my RSS Feed to Anchor and create an account I'm good to go. Unfortunately I just recently paid another installment of the ransom to Buzzsprout before coming to these conclusions. 🤦🏿♂️
@@tombuck Well actually if you do the same level of work Buzzsprout requires (setting up each service account yourself) you can maintain that same level of control with Anchor. Thanks for the quick response.
Hey with that being said. What happens if i start make my own apple/Spotify account while already having used anchor for years. Will i now have to different post-cast out???
Awesome video! I uploaded my first podcast on anchor last week and its not distributed anywhere for now. I was wondering what are the delays for my first upload to be distributed? Or maybe im missing something to do?
Did you go through your account settings and add your feed to each service you want it to be on? Once you do that it should only take 1-3 days to show up. Either way, congrats on launching your show!
Great video. Hey I heard if we don't use the Anchor recording option and upload an mp3 or m4a file it has limited uploads/space. Have you heard this? Thanks for the detailed video.
There is a size limit, but I don’t know exactly what it is offhand. I haven’t had any issues with MP3 files though, and my shows are typically around an hour long.
Hello thanks for the awesome video I do have a question so I just upload my first podcast on Anchor but I was wondering for the other services it distribute. Do you have to create a links in the Manual distribution (advanced) area? Because it only has the Anchor and Spotify or later on once my first podcast is down it can upload to the other seven on the advanced list?
Once you have your account created you should be able to submit your RSS feed to all of the services pretty easily (unless they’ve changed something recently).
This was such a great and informative review and description on the platform. I've listened to a couple podcasts that use Anchor and have heard them plug in an ad on Anchor before. Is that mandatory or is that only if you want to monetize your content?
Thank you so much for your insight and experience with Anchor. I’m stepping into this podcast world with NO technical experience and you made this less overwhelming. I do have a question...is there a way through anchor to link my podcast to my website so that it appears there too? Thanks! Jillian Ahonen
Thank you so much for going a little bit through the policy/rights. how does it work in terms of making money though is there a minimum of some sort, do you charge for your podcasts, do you get paid per listener or follower or like... how does it work?
You can add adds directly through Anchor, where it works like UA-cam- advertisers pay and Anchor takes a cut. Or you can find your own sponsors, which is tougher, but Anchor won’t take anything from that.
The ending though! You might as well had dropped not one but those TWO mics and casually walked off stage! Lol Love love the video man, thank you! Subscribed, Commented and Liked!
Thanks for your video and all the information. One question regarding adds and monetization. I want to start an educational podcast project, no sponsors, adds or monetization involved, just content. Is this the way to go? Thanks again
I feel like this is maybe a dumb Q but here I go regardless, I have myself a rode pod mic and I’m happy with the default out of box setting. I use it for some podcasting and the likes but also use it casually when talking with friends over discord. Is it possible for me to alter the EQ of the output of the mic live when using over discord etc? I use a usb audio interface (scarlet solo) and so can only alter gain levels from it, so obviously would be looking for software to do this.. thanks:)
Not a dumb question at all! It really comes down to your software. Whether it's your streaming software, or running the audio signal through another app first, that's where you would make your EQ changes. I've only done this with OBS. It works, but it's clunky. I'm sure there are better software options out there fire live adjustments (and of course you could always get a small external mixer).
The Enthusiasm Project thanks for the reply! Yeah I’ve just struggled to find much info on live output changes besides getting a mixer, so I guess that’s most likely the best option. Thanks again:)

Thanks Tom, you came in the perfect time! to switch over to Anchor, thanks again. im all ready subscribed now.
I'm happy it helped! Always nice to find the right tool for the job 👍
Thank you for this video🙌🏾... The dolphin joke at the end was a good closing 😂😂
Every video you make is 1,000,000% quality
Thank you! 🙏
now, I like Anchor even more, this was very helpful. also, your dad jokes are awesome.
Why thank you!
Love how easy and simple this was!
Happy it was helpful for you!
Hey thanks a lot for this video. Its very helpful. I am about to upload my first podcast and was trying to choose between spreaker and anchor but after watching your video, I think I'll give anchor a try. Thanks again
Good luck! I haven't used Spreaker myself, but I just ran a poll here on UA-cam and quite a few people said they use it and are happy with it.
thank you for the video and dad jokes. i'm about to launch my podcast, and i have been researching anchor.
You're welcome and good luck!
Thank you for your tips
You're welcome! I hope they helped!
@@tombuck They really did, now I am gonna be watching your other videos to learn more and suceed in my new project.
The expression u had when telling that dolphin joke was hilarious
I really enjoyed this video - great content and info. 1st video I've watched from you, so thanks for making this!
I’m really happy to hear that! 👍
Great video and explanation. Thanks the showing the desktop set up option.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Tom, that was enlightening and helpful. I have always postponed to upload and publish my episodes on the platform.
I’d definitely recommend GarageBand if you haven’t tried it 👍
yes you can. just uploaded some audio, and you can upload videos too and it detaches the audio
Thank y’all so much!!!
Fantastically simple and clear explanation CHEERS 🎉
Happy to hear it! Thanks Stella!
another beauty! Thanks buddy. I'm getting there now. About to order all the gear!!
Tell your wallet I'm sorry 😬
Hey thanks! As a fellow teacher, I have to say I love your channel. I have picked up Rode Caster Pro on your recommendation. I love it. Hope your year is finishing up ok... Mine is different than I expected, but still making a difference!
Peace!
My year is definitely different- we’re doing all classes online for the remainder. But we’re doing well overall. Good luck with the Rodecaster!
This is so helpful! I've been recently thinking about switching my podcast from hosting on my website to Anchor, so perfect timing. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! I used to host podcasts on a personal site and handle all the feeds myself. I...didn't like it.
@@tombuckdo you know if there is a way to manage multiple podcasts through one account on Anchor? Or would you have to set up multiple accounts to do that?
I don’t know since I haven’t tried it myself, but worst case scenario would be just setting up a second account.
Been watching your vids. Saw that youre also a teacher. Im a college teacher here in the Philippines and Im trying to level up my game in yt and podcast. Hopefully I can do it in full blast soon. Thanks for providing these vids in your channel. So helpful!
That’s awesome to hear, it’s always nice to meet a fellow teacher 👍
Thank you for reading out the rules and guidelines - really helped me!!!
I’m really happy to hear that! Good luck with your show!
@@tombuck Thank you :)
Always love your videos. I always appreciate the use of timestamp organization too. Super helpful to come back to for reference.
I’m glad it helps!
I love your studio! Your color choices, lighting, and wardrobe really add to your video content.
Thanks so much! It’s a really fun space to be in 👍
I loved this.
@@tombuck Thank you! I love love love your videos. SO VERY HELPFUL! And the dumb dad jokes are precious. lol *Seriously...GONG level bad dad jokes...I like how you make it easy for ANY level to jump in and begin. I was going to go FANCY PANTS (is that even a category???) microphone but I think I'm going to go total newb..and try the cheapest possible...buwahahaha
AGAIN! THANK YOU! I'm telling all my followers (that's like 4-5 hee hee) to check out your stuff...thank you. #jesusgirlwifemomsuperduperpodcasternewb
I really like the youtube recommendation system 😂😂
I have an idea of making podcast content and I figured out: ohhhh I need to host it but where ?! 😅🤦♀️
nnd I see ur video clicking on it immediately 👍
Man thanks a lot for sure ❤
And If I could I have a question: Do u recommend an intro episode if my podcast is educational like describing what I will provide and how or it`s not important?
I like that youtube is recommending my videos 😁
And intro episode is up to you. It can definitely be a helpful way to offer some context and frame expectations, but also with podcasting, most people will listen to the newest episode first, so don’t stress too much about your intro as it will quickly get pushed down once you publish more episodes.
This was a good walk through, much appreciated, Tom. In closing, that joke at the end..lol, have a great weekend, man.
Haha, glad it was helpful!
Thanks Tom! As usually very interesting information. I was so impressed that decided to start my own podcast in russian instantly! 👍
Woo hoo! Best of luck in that project!
@@tombuck Thanks a lot! 👍😊
Bro thank you...I am literally about start a podcast and this video was super helpful. Thanks for sharing...I too enjoy the "domain actors" joke...as well as your subsequent explanation...good stuff man!🤣👍🏾
Haha, I'm glad it helped! Good luck with your show 👊
@@tombuck yeah thanks man. I love when I come to a video and get exactly what I needed know. Blessings on you man🤙🏾
Great show thanks for the information. Got my Podmics yesterday and waiting for the Podcaster tomorrow! This covid interruption has given me a bit of time to listen to some UA-camrs and finally organise getting started. This episode was especially useful in pointing me towards Anchor - thanks again 👍
I’m so glad it helped! Congrats on all the awesome gear and good luck with your podcast! 👍
Ciao Tom many thanks for You reply. With best regards Massimiliano
I like this backlight color set up , previously it was too blue'ish I guess. Now there is color but not too much.. Love it.
I don’t know if I consciously changed anything, but thank you! 😬
Amazing video as always! Thank you for the education Tom!
I create my Spanish podcast thanks !
Podcast : La mentalidad ganadora
Thanks for your great video - very helpful. I have a question: I wanted to upload a WAV format file of a whole podcast episode that I produced with Garageband. The file was larger than 250MB, however, so too large to upload. Do you usually upload separate WAV files or use the smaller MP3 format? Thanks a lot for your answer.
I'll upload MP3 if the WAV is too big.
@@tombuck cool, thanks!
Hey Tom can you do a video about Buzzsprout and why you switched?
I've been planning that forever and just haven't done it for some reason. The short story is that while Anchor is an excellent service, I'm not a fan of Spotify's approach to podcasting in general. Buzzsprout is a huge proponent of open and independent podcasting, which I'm a big supporter of.
The hokey jokes at the end are awesome! 😂
Really the best part 😬
@@tombuck totally.
Great video. Very professional. Lighting, image (blurred background) and sound are of good level. And the content is interesting (to me at least 😁). Well done.
Thank you! I don't think I could ask for more encouraging feedback than that!
Thank you very much for such a clear explanation presented by such a nice guy! Cheers cheers 👏

That’s definitely true- a service like Buzzsprout let’s maintain more control over all aspects of your show.
Thanks for sharing! 🤣🤣🤣that end joke😂🤣...too funny.
I was probably a little too proud of that one 😬
Very informative and for the latter part, entertaining! Thank you. Sending some love from the Philippines.
Thank you kindly 🙏
Thanks for sharing your experience with Anchor! Im going to start using it and this video has definitely helped!
Good luck! I’ve had a great experience 👍
The dolphin bit was cute, lol :) Thanks for posting this, it was really helpful. Much appreciated!
Super glad it helped, despite the joke 😁
Great video. Hey I heard if we don't use the Anchor recording option and upload an mp3 or m4a file it has limited uploads/space. Have you heard this? Thanks for the detailed video.
There is a size limit, but I don’t know exactly what it is offhand. I haven’t had any issues with MP3 files though, and my shows are typically around an hour long.
@@tombuck thanks for that feedback. Love the clarity of your communication and your studio. Very refreshing.
WOW. This has been very useful. Thanks!! 😊👍
Happy to hear it! Good luck with your podcast!
Very helpful and reassuring! Thank you Tom
I’m so glad it was useful!
Those last words with those innocent face expression spill out the coffe from my mouth...danggg...lols.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mission accomplished 🙌
Where did you get the plastic cover to protect the RODECaster Pro when not in use? Looks like a great way to keep dust out of the slider tracks.
It works great and is from a company called Decksaver based in the UK 👍
This was such a great and informative review and description on the platform. I've listened to a couple podcasts that use Anchor and have heard them plug in an ad on Anchor before. Is that mandatory or is that only if you want to monetize your content?
Anchor's monetization is entirely up to you. I never used it, but it seems to work very similarly to how you can put ads on UA-cam Videos.
Thank you so much for your insight and experience with Anchor. I’m stepping into this podcast world with NO technical experience and you made this less overwhelming.
I do have a question...is there a way through anchor to link my podcast to my website so that it appears there too?
Thanks!
Jillian Ahonen
Yes! You can embed a little player on your website so people can listen there directly.
@@tombuck amazing! Thank you!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hello, do you have multiple podcast on one Anchor-account? Or for every-single podcastshow another email/account? Thanks!
Each show will need it's own account since they all will have different RSS feeds.
@@tombuck thank you. Are these ads found on Anchor itself and do you get paid per listener or follower, how do you make money apart from the ads?
Amazing video, exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for your time and work!!

Good finishing joke dude. Nice review of Anchor. If you don't mind sharing what Camera model you are using? Thanks Tom

Love your voice dude. Very good video.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for your video and all the information. One question regarding adds and monetization. I want to start an educational podcast project, no sponsors, adds or monetization involved, just content. Is this the way to go? Thanks again
I feel like this is maybe a dumb Q but here I go regardless,
I have myself a rode pod mic and I’m happy with the default out of box setting.
@@tombuck You have to get a mixer, but make sure you get one with a USB connection, if not you must be Tech Savvy in order to create work around's.
If you have a mac, you can use Audio Hijack
Great episode, clear, concise and to the point! thank you so much for this!
I'm so glad it helped! Anchor is super simple.
