It's time to get the new tractor, you need to think of your back and a good grapple on the front to help turn the big logs. Surgery is no fun, and the tractor is cheaper than surgery.
That’s a really good point!
That poor little tractor! Oh My! what You put it through! LOL! I hope you raised that small end 2 inches: 21-17 equal 4 Divid by 2 = pith level to bunks + more board foot per cut = less wastage.
The ol BX skidder at it again. Great job sir
Thanks, Mike!
Looks like it cuts super nice🪵
Have you considered a mini skid? It would be great for your wood yard. Keep using the BX for the other chores.
I would consider one, but I think it would be more of the same issue…I’ve used a pretty large one at Rockhill Farm and you could not lift full firewood totes to truck bed height without tipping. I just don’t think it will cut it.
Hey Lucas, have you ever considered building a movable ramp out of lumber, place it by your mill, back your tractor up on it. Place your log on the mill then take the tractor and set it out of the way so you can operate the mill?
That’s a solid idea. I’ve been kicking around a lot of other options. I’ll come up with something before I tackle anymore big logs…
TIP: On your log stops cut some lengths of PVC pipe that will just fit over them. Slip them over the log stops and turn the logs will be easier.
That’s on my to-do list! 👊
Lucas, Lucas, Lucas!? 😂 Wach'a doin' my man 😂 Love your hijink 😂
Yeah, I know! 🤦♂️😂🤣 I am having a good time.
I hope the flood waters not affect you and your family in Eastern Kentucky
Thank you! We are good. 👊
Will any of the tractor brands out there let you demo them for a few months on different models and sizes of tractors like “Outdoors with the Morgans”
I would love to, but so far no takers. I’m not quite on the same playing field as the Morgan’s. 😂
You might want to look into a log arch with wheels that you put at either end of the log so it’s easier to tow a log out of the woods and to the sawmill
Yes, definitely would come in handy!
You work too hard, lol - I use a wrap around strap on the big ones and spin with the BX. That log is huge - kudos!
Yeah, I am trying that next. Thank you! 👊
Get a chain or strap to roll those big logs with your tractor loader.
Definitely have to do that!
You need an old 50 chevy with gin poles and a winch
Now your talkin! 👊
You’re killin it Lucas💪. Poplar has a nice grain. Have you put any thought into how you’re gonna turn the logs, once on the mill, in regards to your new tractor? The log ox works great though.
I may start experimenting with wrapping a tow rope around them and lifting with the tractor bucket to roll them. Similar to what guys are doing with the shop cranes…. I know with bigger logs I have to do something because I can’t do it like I did here…
Here in se Ohio , the mill I buy from can't get poplar.
I love having poplar on hand . Easy and attractive .
Hi Lucas my name is Jerry and I have following your channel and I would like to suggest that you could mount a harbor freight winch above your mill to help in rolling your logs I have seen this done on Wallace farm and sawmill Tyler uses that set up on his Corley mill please be careful and keep up the good work can’t wait to see your new tractor and I hope you don’t kill your bx before you get it
Hi Jerry! Thanks for the comment! I think a winch for turning logs is a solid idea. I’ll have to go check out Wallace Farm. I don’t think I’ve watched them yet. 👊
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead you’re welcome
Thanks for the video . I will be getting in touch with Jerry's Resharp about blades for my SM-22 . I just received notification that my mill will be delivered in 4 days so I am looking forward to working with the mill . Thinking about my next upgrade but that is still a ways in the future.
Awesome! Congrats! Tell them you saw it on my channel! I appreciate them working with us!
Will be sure to let them know I found them on your channel I hope to be using a lot of ideas from your channel. I area is only 16 acres and most of it not usable but this is my start into sawmilling. I also own a 201@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead 0 BX 2660 that is still serving most of my need Keep the videos coming.
Great stuff Lucas 👏 👍 👌
Thanks! 👊
I've known guys to power wash dirty logs . A guy who use to mill for us had a powersaw debarker.
Other than dirty logs I've never saw anyone remove bark from logs .
Does mechmax offer a cut line debarker for your mill ? Woodmizer does for theirs .
Mill a beam to mount overhead of the bed to hang a chain fall from . Wind a chain around the log and turn it with the chain fall . Safe and easy plus one won't have to worry about the log getting away from you .
@@davidfooce1890 Thumbs Up!
Thanks for the ideas. I watched this video back and knew that I have to be thinking about smarter ways to turn the logs…
Just fyi, when you skid logs you pack the dirt into the bark which is one of the worst things for the bandsaw blades
I get that, that’s why I was pealing off the bark that could. But for right now, It’s skid it or don’t mill. 🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for the comment though. 👊
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomesteadI understand,I have a 1025 tractor and it has a hard time lifting as well. Maybe make a set of ramps then you could push the logs on. You are a beast to watch. I enjoy your videos.
@@danbelden7354 thanks! I’m having fun. I really hope to have a tractor that will carry the logs soon.
😂 that tractor sure surprises me on what it can.
There is nothing left! lol. We found the limit. 😂
Well you said that before.
So time will tell on that.
I think you like the struggle 😅
