I remember that song so vividly.....we were on vacation in Yugoslavia in 1981....I didn‘t unterstand the lyrics because I was just eleven years old at the time with just one and half year of english at school. But her powerful voice overwhelmed me back than. Years later I did some research to find that masterful song because that was my final vacation with my beloved father ❤️ who died on Christmas that year. Thanks for uploading that version
Sublime. An achingly beautiful piece of music, so beautifully rendered. The horror of mundanity and ennui, perfectly brought to closure by redemption and triumph. An utterly riveting version.
Tout à fait remarquable ! Quelle grande artiste ! Fabuleuse interprétation ! What a wonderful singer, using her voice at her best ! And the guitarist, boy ! he's good !
No-one can beat Marianne's version of this song. She captures the absolute desperation of Lucy Jordan, more so than Dr Hook, but that's the second best version with Dennis Locorriere. Maybe it's because it's a woman singing it from the point of view of a woman, I don't know, but Marianne's version gives you goose bumps, it's so realistic and frightening at the same time - frightening that a woman who you would think had it all but, deep down, has lost herself in the life she creates around her husband and children and has lost her sense of "self" but suddenly wakes up to the realisation that they are all off doing their own things and all she can do is clean the house or rearrange the flowers. Don't give up your day job, girls!!!
Marianne is poignant, but guitarist's rendition is too poor about sound and rhythm. I would have preferred her voice without such musical accompaniment.
@@piarodidi8598 No Piaro! While Marianne IS wonderful and desperately poignant, the guitar accompanies her perfectly. It has its own drama and tension. The voice and guitar are a perfect blend. IMO.
Wow, this is Marianne Faithful at her very best. A song that tugs at one's heart-strings. So many once beautiful, celebrated women out there can compare their now so mundane lives to that of Lucy Jordan -
Mic echo is so cool for this song that is dreamlike. Definitely this is the best version. I know, how beautiful she was in her youth, ...still beautiful.
A very talented artist with along list of great songs from the folk era, also onetime girlfriend of Mick Jagger, a been their done that girl, and still doing it with style, thanks Marianne
Ouvi essa música uma vez em 1.980 ,e nunca mais tinha ouvido, eu tinha 14 anos e nem sabia o nome dela, mas ficou gravado na memória e há poucos dias eu a encontrei novamente., nossa quantas lembranças!
Out of the several performances of this song by Marianne, this one really stands out as her finest. She also looks so elegant and beautiful, a great survivor of all life threw at her in the past.
Great singer in her own genre,,,matured after years of hard times hanging out with riff-raff Mick Jagger,,luckily she survived him,,,and moved on with grace,,
Marianne is very special. Was turned on to her in the 70's by a friend who'd been a fan since the 60's. Went to see her in Hollywood on the Broken English tour. And now I ask a favor, there used to be a VHS DVD of her performing in a French cathedral and it was a magnificent performance. Somehow I lost my copy in a move. I can't find it anywhere, of course online. If anyone knows where to get a copy please let me know.
No. It does not make sense, Shel said it very clearly that she jumps with the warm wind in her hair while she found FOREVER (note that word). He also stated it more then a dozen time that is is about suicide.
plant1deep4u2 shes reputation in early 70s was not the best way for survive in her darkness side life..but, afer all that, the detox, she could get a lil beat more care in herself..I mean...take a look Anita Pallenberg in the 80s, and you will understand what I mean.
Anthony Richards P. Huh? Perhaps your comments are better understood/appreciated in your native language because your English is almost incomprehensible . . . aside from your unbridled cruelty.
What a beautiful and unique voice!
This is probably her best version of this song. And she looks great. Love that voice.
Listen to Dr. Hook's version.
I love this song!!!
I prefer the origional version she did when she was young n full of piss n vinegar!😂😂😂 finish your Mars bar Marianne!

wow, Pat, all those ol' songs we'd listen to 'back in the day.' Miss you. Hope to see you sometime. xo
she has changed a lot in 15 years!
. . . and you're uglier for saying so. She's getting old and I believe she has health issues.

plant1deep4u2 That is a very nasty comment, she was once very beautiful but now looks the way a woman her age should, but certainly not ugly.
Toujours aussi merveilleuse 😘
wunderschön, love
Nice and sweet performance girl well done, 👍😉
Brilliant !
Such a goosebumps depiction of a suburban hell-scape.
Eine super Frau
Brilliant !!! thank's
Simply superb.
