There's definitely some mis-reporting and misunderstanding (on the government's part) on what's being discussed and what an actual machete really is

The problem with banning things, is that the government is particularly bad at defining what it is that they are banning. Most people already think that carrying ANY kind of knife is illegal. Any further legislation is both ineffective and open to being misinterpreted by the police - many of whom already judge the legality of a knife by how “scary” it looks. The government should increase sentencing for people who actually engage in violence.
It's not the Machetes or Knives it's the person using it!!! It's just like here in the USA it's the Guns it's the crazy people using them!! I have been shooting since I was 5 years old and I carry a gun and I'm 75! I have carried a Knife all through school from 1st. grade and I still carry one every day today!
How can we expect to have a sensible, thought out decision that’s clear, precise and pertinent to resolve the root cause of a problem when they don’t even know the difference between a meeting and a party? I despair honestly. Let’s hope for a modicum sense. Oh and thank you again for your content (even if it is Tuesday). Take care
Just spent £80 on my machete not a chance I’m handing it over. Government is an absolute joke!
this is the same government that can't tell the difference between a meeting & a party .. even when there are loads of them there ????
i am in the same boat as, as many other shooters who use a machete to clear nettles / overgrown areas to build a hide, in order to take care of pest problems for farmer. i am certainly contacting BASC in order to find out once and 4 all, if anyone who uses one on a regular basis is exempt, or can obtain a license or permit to legally own one .
Bad take.
If I want to kill someone id go down to Sainsbury’s and buy knife. I wouldn’t think “oh let me get out my leatherman”
“That was a shit one” lol 😂 “dildo massacre “ omg that was too funny! 😅
Just ban shit knives 😂 these knives have no use , cheap, badly made, over 40 plus years of collecting and using knives I’ve read about and seen many knife types banned , many due to popular culture, like switchblades due to knife fights in movies, butterfly knives due to martial art movies , and zombie knives due to zombie films 😂 if it’s cool and youngsters like it it will get banned , knuckle dusters , knives with knuks built in , but let be honest the issue isn’t the knives , it’s the youngsters picking them up , and the lack of conscious or no feeling for human life , things need to change , and these laws don’t help ,also criminals don’t give a crap about laws .
Good day mate.
How would you clear young brush in inaccessible places? Can your MP do it for you or get the army to do it?
The problem is that British governments are rubbish at properly defining what they're banning and our police are really good at misinterpreting the law on a whim. I have a machete I use for gardening - clearing a virulent bush that frequently intrudes into my garden courtesy of my lazy neighbour. When not in use it sits on my wall with a lot of African and Aborigine weapons on display. I also have a large Gurkha issued kukri. Who is to say a copper won't take unmbridge should it be seen by "a concerned citizen"?
Tramontaine!
A kitchen knife is far more dangerous.
Firstly i think bannig items is dumb, i could find sone scrap corrigated iron and make one. Secondly I would call them purposeless knives. As you said, different blade serve different functions, and the function of these are to "look cool" or be intimidating. Some sawback machetes can be useful but are half as useful as two separate tools.
How about we look at who comes to the UK, what “culture” they bring with them and why is that a problem instead of blaming inanimate object.
Those redicioulious looking "zombie" knives, are beyond stupid. Before a bunch of crackhead burglars broke into my forge and stole everything, I forged knives from railroad spikes, lawnmower blades, and high quality steel. I took pride in making useful, quality knives for sportsmen and bushcrafters. They sold well. Seeing cheap, weird, and useless "knives", just makes me wanna puke.😲
Why don’t the government keep the laws they got regarding uk legal knife carry and carrying with good reason but also introduce a knife license to be able to carry a lock knife/fixed knife.
Governing bodies never think things through e.g. bans. wht good would banning machettes do? to stop knife crimes?? As you mentioned we could easily order any kitchen knife online...can't ban thouse can we? Box cutter/utility knives...cheap and effective...likely used a lot in crimes for the affordabiity....not banned.
