Goddamn. I hate sales. And the inherent disingenuousness of sales. Well... Retail.

you can shorten the time it takes to bring the walls down by adding, "im mostly getting why you'd say this (repeat back something related to the objection they said earlier)
then add " is there anything else about this you can touch on?" (or swap out some words based on context)
just seeking one extra point of contention from them, could get them to drop the hint that gives you the actual reason behind the objection, the first reason is almost never the real reason for the objection.
it also helps to highlight that the problem is small and singular in most cases.

I would like to persuade my girlfriend to move South because it is way too cold here. I've been trying for 20 years

You must've felt a crystalization of your understanding by vocalizing this lesson. I'd feel a weight off my shoulders if I had shared my understanding on specific socialization skills. I've found that when I feel passionate enough about a topic, I can discuss it thoroughly enough to explain it to a third party. Perhaps you should share more sociological lessons you've observed.

With great power comes great responsibility. Manipulation is when you alter someone’s behavior with poor intent. Persuasion is to help someone make the right decision. It’s a double edged sword really.
