@@pianopat yes I'm fine, thanks for asking ... it's always nice to get to know new compositions, I've never heard of this Java Suite before ... nice Probably THE best piano sonata I discovered recently is this one: Carl Vine - Piano Sonata No. 1 UA-cam channel olla-vogala there are AMAZING parts like 4:23 & further Listen and you won't be disappointed I think ;-)
@@pianopat I would say I agree with your assessment. I think it is a great piece, and maybe godowdky's most structurally interesting large-scale work, but I'm not sure I would say I love it, nor would I say reaches the height of the period's greatest piano variation sets, which are, in my opinion, of course, Rachmaninoff's. In that sense, I would rank it alongside Reger's variations (op. 71?) And Busoni's fantasia contrapuntistica. I feel like those three works share some core similarities, what do you think?
Your playing is wonderfull. The difference with Debussy to me is that Debussy is genuine and spiritual and Godowsky is more the sigar smoking bon vivant who wants to show his guests at his high society parties that he can outdo Albeniz and Debussy in their own style if he wants to. Maybe a less noble artistic aim. But he stumbled upon something interesting indeed. Although I think the piano textures are too dense there are many interesting ideas like his use of heterophony. A concept that is not used a lot (or at all) in piano literature.
OMG !!!
I'm so glad you're back
yesssssss
I am, and hopefully this time, for good. I hope you are well.

Thank you Patrick!
Very interesting piece. Looking forward for the next ones!
Very interesting to see this different side to your musical interests. I’d never heard of this piece before.
glad to see you cover this suite!
What do you think about the Piano Sonata and Passacaglia? I think they're both minor masterpieces.
I want to like them, and bay well do, one day. They have so much going for them, but I do think they are problematic.
@@pianopat I think the passacaglia is much, much more successful than the sonata.
@@SpaghettiToaster Yes, in many ways it is an admirable work. I just cannot quite love it yet. Maybe it will change.

Surely Godowsky said Oriental and not Occidental in his final sentence!
Thanks for pointing this typo out. Corrected.
