After being a certified car audio installer for 7 years, I would not recommend it. Lots of stress, deadlines, dealing with shitty customers/co-workers, and long hours for a measly 30k a year. SOOOO glad I don't do that shit anymore.......
Yust started work yesterday installing onboard computers in taxis. Its a start but I love that ive been given this opportunity. And its just a lot of good luck realy.
Cool episode Soundman, I wish I had that opportunity around my way. No local shops want to help so I decided to open one myself but still in the process. Not enough $$$ yet but lord knows will get there with his grace. Had to make life changes about 1 yr and 1/2 ago so been unemployed and studying to get my car audio shop up and running so I can give those opportunities I did not receive. Thanks for the videos big inspiration. Peace.
doug! just installed your ipad kit and love it. been a subscriber for a while and was wondering why raffa and the rest of the guys don't work with you anymore? what's going on with soundman? keep up the vids, love the style!
***** ahh ok gotcha! yeah definitely the kit's been molded into my AC center vent and while i still have to hit it with some finer grits, it's working awesome so far! was soo excited to use it it's not even painted yet. i have a bunch of photos on my instagram account under @booogs. well i hope the vids keep coming regardless of soundman's situation. i've learned so many new techniques from you guys and your videos since way back that i still use to this day.
I had a self-amplified sound bar installed in the back of my ford pickup and I used a high low converter to convert the higher amped signal from my factory speaker wires to the lower amped signal requirement for the sound bar input. But there is a great deal of distortion in the sound bar when I play it through the factory radio. Playing it through Bluetooth is crisp and clear. Why? Can I clean up the radio audio through the sound bar by maybe using a better high to low converter? Why does audio distort from high to low?
As always. ..good video. That's how I got started, hung out at "Fuller Sound" got to know the owner Chuck Fuller and Jimmy Cloud the main fabricator, Tory Lean the manager. ...so on, and the rest was a blast! Thanks again!
That’s crazy how everyone left soundman and went to work somewhere else each shop Doug visits are not as busy as when he recorded at soundman with all the old crew members the more work Doug had the more money they made.
it's a decent career if you want to run your own business. if you work for someone else be prepared for some late ass nights working for 15 bucks an hour
Yea it's not really smart to tell your new boss that you used to be a heroin addict, , i think thats something you should keep to yourself especially in the work place , , Don't give people ammunition you know what i mean, business owners will use any excuse in the book not to give you a raise or pass judge on you, its in peoples nature
Digital Bullet depends' if you are cool and close to your boss, sometimes that kind of honesty shows them trust because you were man enough to be forward about it, so long as it is a while in the past and you give them no reason to suspect that it did not stay there ( in the past) these things can be seen as charter builders rather than character flaws, I wouldn't just blurt it out in the interview but if It came up in conversation years later after I established a relationship with the boss, I could only see it making him trust or respect you more for overcoming it
Nah it doesn't work like that lol Your boss is called your boss for a reason, You are an employee, You are being paid for your time, Bosses and your work place will use any excuse they can not to pay you any more money, There are things your boss should know and they're things they shouldn't, this is one thing they should NOT know, regardless of how long you known the person, Being addicted to anything is stigmatized and look down upon in this society why would you want to make your job that much harder ???? Not a smart thing to do
I agree. I did slip up, once, when a coworker told me she was going to rehab because I did do that before. But I never, ever tell management, HR, or anyone else about this aspect of my past. Because no matter how open minded and understanding people pretend they are about it you can't know which one will use it against you in the future or which one actually doesn't respect that you've been through that (in fact they look down on you for it).
Great video brothaaaaaa
0:43 now that's Old School Car Audio! That's some serious evolution to stay in the business for more than 40yrs...wow! Great video
