Personally, me being an installer at a small shop I don’t mind people who go to places like this to get such things, but I feel that with it being such a large franchise that, while you do get what you want, and it works the majority of the time, I noticed in this industry i trust a place like bestbuy to adequately and properly handle the installation as well as be knowledgeable about what they’re selling, but I notice the small good shops, yknow with good reputation are better. Usually, small business as stated don’t have such large inventory but I do appreciate the little things. For example some customers come in and if we’re not being slammed we do enjoy giving them the opportunity to personalize the install, Sometimes when we do Amplifiers for Subs and they come with the Bass Knob we enjoy taking the extra few minutes to ask and see where exactly they would prefer it to be. Larger places like this most of the time get it done and done right the 1st time, but they all apply the same basic ideology to all the installs and I tend to notice they seem to prefer just mounting it right by the steering column. We’ve had a couple that didn’t really like the location and it’s always nice to give that little extra care and attention to each client. Not all clients are the same. Some may have disabilities or other factors that can affect the enjoyment of a new add on to their everyday transport. So bestbuy is good. I’ve seen some customers get stuff installed then come to us, & at least in my area the bestbuys nearby seem to have good techs that make it neat and a solid install. So they for the minimum have that going for them. Just wish it wasn’t such copy paste. If possible always support your smaller businesses some people like us really enjoy building a bond and getting that loyalty and trust out of our clients. Great vid.

@@Mavis308 you bought a Kenwood! Sadly you probably let them install it. My oldest Kenwood deck 13 years old. Dropped faceplate on concrete. Buttons fly off. Nbd push them back on. System shocked by a 5F capacitor loose wire. The kenwood deck kept on going. It still goes. Doesn't have the aux input jack going so I had to buy the biggest best one they have. Old Kenwood deck so much better. If you come across one that works buy it. New ones don't allow 20 second crossover changes without even looking at it. New ones are obnoxious. We shall see how this 6v output signal one goes. Old one was better.
Whenever I get a new car the first thing I do is upgrade the Stereo, speakers, Add a Subwoofer or two with a sub box and Mono amp for the lows and a class AB 4 Channel amp for mids and highs. If you like music when you drive then it’s a must have. The stock sound systems in cars are garbage.

Get Kenwood head units and mono bass amps. Many pioneers died before that. Kenwoods can handle abuse. I you can solder go ahead shock the amp whole thing easy to fix. Pioneer bye no more of your stuff. 25 years of running systems. I learned physics in college (very practical) not buying your stuff again. Send me samples to review if you have gotten your act together Pioneer. I have 2-3 vehicles at a time. If you improved yourself then show me!
Looks like they did a great job, I wanted canadian tire to do mine after 3 different guys said yes, they can do it, and yes they have all the parts. What ended up happening was half of my day taken up waiting for it, and a shotty, incomplete job. They told me to come back again to finish. My dad ended up taking the incomplete job elsewhere. Big oof.

Best buy cracked up my brothers trim around his head unit and cracked it around his heat and A/C vent on a 3 months old car and refuse to replace it.. I would never use them after this. If you can not handle the job and accept any responsibility if something goes wrong then simply do not offer the service... A store this big should have said sir we are sorry we will replace what we broke at no costs. Best buy is garbage for this!!!

Went to a best buy down where I'm from to install a radio. I had the factory radio wired to the back seat and when I got there the guy didn't know what the hell to do so he told me to buy a $129 harness and get rid of the radio in the back. I said hell no and went to a local audio shop and they did it without even removing factory radio. The only thing that happened is I needed to reprogram the wheel controls for my volume buttons and stuff not a big problem I'll do it in the future. It was an 02 impala

Best buy charging me 120 for install 2 front speakers and tweeter and 80 for the back door speakers so $200 plus the 150 + 80.... fuck I ain't gonna have them install it that's too fuckin much and I can get the speakers for way less on Amazon same speakers

I was also looking into getting Best Buy to install a stereo I'm thinking about buying online from them. When I was checking out online, it says "Free Installation" but it was also charging me $150 for the installation kit (harness and wires), which is grossly overpriced because I could get that same kit from Crutchfield for $50, so it seems like they're recouping some of that "free" installation money from that kit. Unfortunately there's no option to NOT buy the kit if you want free installation, it all comes in the same package.
Oh, but they don’t work on BMWs. Went there to have an Alpine ILX F259 installed. They won’t work on BMWs. Another car audio place near me won’t install since I didn’t purchase through them. Another place, Cartronics, I don’t trust since they said it would take two hours at 95 bucks an hour to run wires from WindRestrictor to brake lights. I did it in five minutes but had another place do the wires to the brakes. I won’t go through them since they want me to purchase a 1200 system, minus the speakers and subwoofer. I’m just gonna return the damn thing back to Amazon.

Best Buy in Canada doesn’t do installs but they can sell you car audio , remote starters but they use to years ago. My guess is to why they don’t do it anymore is probably because they messed up peoples cars.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. Most cars are easy to install stuff in but then there's luxury cars like BMW and high end stock systems like jbl equipment that's complicated as hell. That needs professional all I do is work on car audio for a living experience installation. And even they'll mess it up sometimes.
I'd be afraid of the butt connectors behind that new head unit. It's probably butchered to hell by a pair of pliers. Personally it's solder or no connection at all.
Nothin wrong with a splice via butt connectors… I mean yeah soldering is better of course though, but they work just fine, just gotta make sure any data connections to the car (like with remote starts) are 100% soldered, otherwise with radios it’s perfectly fine the use butt connectors and some zip ties or Tessa tape
Not sure if 'DJ' is a plant, but good luck finding someone with that level of product knowledge in a big box store in Australia. My experience is that there is one person - usually male but not exclusively - who knows their stuff and the rest of the staff just start twitching if that person isn't available. Note that I'm not talking about dedicated car stereo shops - you HAVE to know your stuff to work in one of those - but businesses employ kids and expect them to magically develop knowledge gleaned over years in a stack of different areas. I'm guessing that DJ could walk into a different part of the store and know what he was looking at - if only we had more like him here in Oz.

I will be looking for a complete car stereo system for a 1974 Ford Gran Torino Starchy and Hutch tribute car in the spring. I am sure most of the techs are used to working on much newer cars. On one hand I'm thinking that things were simpler then and it will be no problem. On the other hand I would think most wires are shot if not gone on a 47 year old car. I'll find out in the spring.

@@WickedFabz I’ve found out what I thought was the case and Best Buy does not check for clipping via an O-Scope. They do an “Ear test”. This was told to me by one of their installer techs at Best Buy. SO, if you’re spending bucks there don’t expect a totally professional install. Problem is probably most people are clueless about clipping and anything audio.

I thought I couldn’t beat the free install on the alpine ilx-w650 that I purchased at Best Buy... The installer was training a younger gentleman I feel bad for the guy now in hindsight he’s being trained by someone who doesn’t know his craft and how to install radio decks... I also bought the Power Pack that Alpine makes he said couldn’t be installed that it wouldn’t work with my vehicle because of the factory amp which was BS he had all the speakers splice into the front L/R speaker wire outputs 🤷🏽♂️ this guy was not a PRO... I ended up just cutting out the PAC interface he installed for no reason and soldered it up myself Alpine KTA-450 makes the Alpine s6.5c blast never again will I trust Best Buy... but then again that’s what I get with a free installation...

Can they do a simple / basic install... of course! Are they going to do a solid install on a full system? Not at all!!
Almost every audio specialist you go to will install a radio for free. Especially when you spend 400 or so dollars on a touch screen head unit.

Did BB adjust your amps gain with the head unit output for no clipping which causes distortion and damage?
Best Buy does a half assed job of an install. They know nothing of clipping, using O-Scope to adjust gain, LPF, etc. They are salesmen not audio pros.

Pull out the radio and look at the wiring and see if they cut your factory harness before you say they did an awesome job

You have to pay for the unit before they install it and pay for the install after they installed the unit.

I was going to do the same thing but I opt to get my back up later. They have different install packages, but check with them.
Does Best Buy when installing an amp with a subwoofer adjust the amps gain with the output of the head unit so you won’t have clipping?
Not sure. I would inquire about that.
@@WickedFabz I’ve found out what I thought was the case and Best Buy does not check for clipping via an O-Scope. They do an “Ear test”. This was told to me by one of their installer techs at Best Buy.
SO, if you’re spending bucks there don’t expect a totally professional install.
Problem is probably most people are clueless about clipping and anything audio.
Do the stereos and speakers have to be from best buy for Geek Squad to install in your car??

Yes you have to buy the harnesses. They have different packages.

I really can’t recall. The install was included with the radio. I added some extras in there.

I thought I couldn’t beat the free install on the alpine ilx-w650 that I purchased at Best Buy... The installer was training a younger gentleman I feel bad for the guy now in hindsight he’s being trained by someone who doesn’t know his craft and how to install radio decks... I also bought the Power Pack that Alpine makes he said couldn’t be installed that it wouldn’t work with my vehicle because of the factory amp which was BS he had all the speakers splice into the front L/R speaker wire outputs 🤷🏽♂️ this guy was not a PRO... I ended up just cutting out the PAC interface he installed for no reason and soldered it up myself Alpine KTA-450 makes the Alpine s6.5c blast never again will I trust Best Buy... but then again that’s what I get with a free installation...

I think I know what your problem is with your radio. It's a a FIAT. 2009 or earlier for me.
In a Ram. I know Jeep sold some of their line to fiat.
