Would love to see slightly deeper dives into the actual root cause and troubleshooting on some of these vids. Not everyone has spare PS5's laying around for parts.
Watching the first repair, when it didn't turn on the second time, I immediately thought I'd be either the fan or the disk drive as something similar was happening to my PC with a CD-Rom drive lol
Funny, I've had the shorted fan problem on a notebook before. But it wasn't a dead short, just over time while running it would short out randomly and the notebook would shut down. Took me a while to figure it out.
Awesome.. enjoying the compilation.. I've been enjoying your videos for years and have given me the initiative to do maintenance and repairs on my own laptops and PC.. thank you.. I still need to talk the Mrs into an I-fixit tool kit though 😉🤘🏻
It's really fun to do yourself, even without soldering skills a lot of repairs just call for a part replacement or a clean and reassembly. The best part are the deals you can nab if you're comfortable with this stuff, got a Halo 3 edition 360 for wicked cheap and she works like a charm now.
I’ve had the same issue as you had in the past video where it keeps shutting off it may be the power supply however it stays on for awhile if you leave it on main menu but once you start a game it shuts off
Makes me sad how a lot of people mistreat and their Electronics and some people can't afford them and would be glad to have them and not treat them like this
I absolutely love the soldering sections as always but hated any mentions of cockroaches in the system, could've gone the rest of the day without hearing that!
I had a neighbor tell me he had a problem with Sony and the warranty. He lived in AZ at the time and when his son’s PS4 stopped reading the discs he sent it back to get repaired. They said it had liquid damage and he knew it was false. So he took it to a local repair shop and they showed him very little spots that look like water in the inside. But nothing on the board or anything it was like just 3-4 spots. He also noticed it wasn’t in the same box that he sent it to them in. Turns out that to where they sent the PS4 to get repaired had all their boxes they had improperly stored them so that humidity would be a problem. A lot of the boxes got destroyed while waiting to get repaired. My neighbor is a lawyer and told them he’d file a class action suite if they didn’t fix it and they crumbled. Sticky stuff though is a dead giveaway.
Hi Steve, i watch your channel all the time, especially older teardowns and repairs. I have a question about an xbox one slim. I repaired one for my son for christmas by replacing the hard drive and it was going great for a week, but then it just died, i opened it up and see 4-6 resistor or capacitor s had corrosion around that little area. How can i get the exact parts to replace them like a schematic or parts list. I cleaned them up but still nogo. He's bummed out and id like to fix it again for him. So he can get back on.
To be fair, it was fun. I have seen you bring back stuff that no one could. So don't be so hard on yourself. Now, there's another guy that takes more in-depth fixes. I forgot his name
This makes me come to a theory that Sony doesn't really want to do much effort into fixing a console, encouraging that customer to buy a brand new one. It was afterall a simple fix by discovering that the fan is mainly the problem other than some cleaning of water damage.
I trust the factory crimps on the fan and power connectors, I'd never use a tool to pull those apart, just yoink the wires and if it breaks you re-crimp or splice the wire instead of trace repair... just me though
I never intend on fixing any electronics, I just enjoy watching you fix items. And the rare episodes that you invite your wife in, makes those episodes much more entertaining. So I have to ask out of curiosity. How did you learn all the circuitry for this an other devices ?? I enjoy process of fixing thing but, Would be so nervous not knowing what each chip does and such.
I bought a second-hand Xbox Elite series 2 controller, I needed to change the front and back cover, when I was taking it apart, I noticed that there was liquid on the battery, I cleaned everything, I was lucky because there was no liquid on the motherboard etc. I hope I don't have any problems in the future.

Has the colloidal metal ever coagulated into a small terminator type robot ?
Does that conformal coating add any structural support to connectors? Sorry if you often get that question
From where do you order liquid metal for PS5 ?

On the first PS5 fix, what are the odds the owner was telling the truth and Sony put the liquid damage there?
