Your reactions are exactly how I feel every time I listen to them. I grew up listening tonTFF and it is still being played consistently to this day. Thanks for the videos.!
It's amazing that The Working Hour, an incredible work of jazz would be on the same album as Everybody Wants to Rule the World, a great rock classic and Shout, an awesome pop/dance classic. Love TFF!
Man this song is sooo good this has to be considered as one of the best instrumental and vocal songs I've ever heard, just the layering of instruments is ridiculous and Roland's voice and range is unreal, there's never been another group that constantly blows my mind like TFF!
Hi, great reaction as always, The lyrics that you were wondering about say "we are paid by those who learn by our mistakes" About Mother's Talk, there's a lot of different versions of it because they were never satisfied with that song lol
Yay! You've reacted to what is probably my favorite Tears for Fears song! Purely by accident, a year or so ago I came upon a rare live version of 'The Working Hour' here on UA-cam from the Spotify Landmark Sessions in 2014. I wasn't familiar with the band beyond their radio hits. I heard that and I'm like, 'Wait; this is Tears for Fears?' I loved 'The Working Hour' so much because I love jazzy pop songs in general and Roland's voice is just perfect for this song for the way it builds (one of my favorite parts is when the power keyboard chords come in right before the vocal--you anticipate some strong singing!). As I listened to the studio version, I was especially impressed by how complex it seems from a musical standpoint, especially when you consider how young the guys were at that time. This song is a fan favorite and Curt has said it's their most -requested non-hit single to play on tour. As I and others have mentioned, they have only played it a couple of times on previous tours since they don't normally have a saxophone player on hand. I suggest checking out the Spotify Landmark Sessions version of this song since it was more recent. The saxophone player on that version is excellent although someone other than the person who played it on the studio album. I feel that 'The Working Hour' is a gem among gems in Tears for Fears' catalog. I believe the lyrics are basically Roland's response to the record company for pressuring them at the time: 'This is the Working Hour/We are paid by those who learn by our mistakes.
UA-cam tried it again but this time I caught them red-handed, lol. But cheers, I'll definitely give that Landmark Sessions version a listen, and you're right---this really is a special song. Also great take on the lyrics!
The Saxophonist is called Mel Collins, he used to be in the band King Crimson, and has worked with The Alan Parsons Project and Roger Waters amongst others.
Yo! I just got my copy of The Hurting today (which includes 4 bonus tracks), and I noticed Mel Collins is listed as performing on the saxophone on the first album too. Very excited to start going through that one!
It's Will Gregory that plays the solos on the sax. He also toured with them. Even gets a shout out in the re-recording of 'I Believe'. He's now the musician behind Goldfrapp.
Ha, nice! I love this one too. Also I'm aiming to get the next Echo & the Bunnymen reaction shot soon. Thanks again for sharing those albums, keen to go through all of them.
With regard to Mothers Talk, it’s much more raucous. Roland has said he doesn’t particularly like it but considers it to be a very important track as they transitioned from the synth sounds on The Hurting to the much more guitar based Songs from the big chair. It was the first single released from the album.
Oh hell yeah, I love the sound of that. I'll ask some friends of the channel if they can can help me access Morphine's material. Because that description is intriguing to say the least!
Great reaction from you on a masterpiece. Indeed it is ! Thank you!
Their best song ..ive been a fan since 81 ..heard every album but this song always stands out ..just musically brilliant..

A masterpiece from an album that is also a masterpiece and arguably the greatest album from the 80's

Masterpiece 👍 such a good band

Just found this now. One of the most beautiful songs they've ever done and glad to see you discovered it too.

Oh, there's a setting for "always approve comments from this user," and I just activated it! So that should end UA-cam's malevolence, lol. :)

A masterpiece!
Great song by TFF!
This is a shining gem, one of the highlights off of Songs From the Big Chair album.
Indeed, I really love this one now, even though I never knew about it before I went on the TFF deep-dive. Top tune!
How did I miss this reaction to my favorite TFF song? This is a fan favorite.

@@mattsnider2667 I'm looking forward to it! Especially Crocodiles and Rescue on the Crocodiles album.
Great great song!

I knew you would like it
You’d like Terminal Frost, instrumental by Pink Floyd from 1987.
My best guess about the category of this song is a Jazzy Pop Prog-Rock.
Never mind the the category, the truth is that it is a masterpiece.
If you like sax in Rock music, you should check out Morphine. A different kinda sax, baritone, but 3 amazing musicians largely forgotten.
