Dude it works! I spent about 45 minutes trying to get the right pressure . stopped found your video , grabbed a tennis ball and it only took me a few minutes to get it l back together! genius!
The ball tricknis the ONLY way to get this done right. I struggled for a good 45min until I stumbled upon this video. Looked for a tenis ball and put some dish washer soap on the gasket and bowl. Thanks for the trick. MUCH LOVE FROM PUERTO RICO 🇵🇷
you are the man. i worked on this 45 minutes and stepped away and came back the next morning. got a softball after watching your video and 30 seconds later it was installed 😊
Thank you for posting your method! We are so grateful for your advice. We installed the toilet under a banjo counter so it was near impossible to get the amount of downward pressure required to turn it in to place but the ball worked along with compressing the ring in a vice grip for one hour prior to insertion.
Thank you for your trick. In fact, using the tennis ball didn't even require me to lubricate the ring and I used a regular tennis ball. Not even a hard one. I would not advise anyone to use a stress ball because the regular tennis ball nearly passed through and a stress ball would definitely pass through and then it would be another job. You seem to have more strength. I'm a pretty weak Indian man so I was able to do it putting pressure downwards with my left hand and then shifting the valve using my right hand. The job was done within 5 minutes. Watching the other video with a guy throws it overnight to shrink. The rubber gasket was making me apprehensive. So thanks for figuring this out. Kohler needs to add it to their instructions! 🤩👍
You the man! Tennis ball worked! I had a 2 day turnaround on a vacation rental and was able to get this valve next day by local plumbing wholesaler. Good thing because called around and is not on any shelves locally and even if in a plumbers truck they are 2 weeks out around here!
Great idea I called kholer and they said to soak the seal in hot water 3-5 minutes then apply dawn dish detergent to the seal to toilet surface. Worked great
A dog Kong round rubber ball made a hell of a difference. If it wasn’t for you having this video I’d still be there two hours later and I’m sure I probably would’ve snapped the clips underneath. So thank you.
This did the trick! I used my dogs large Kong, which is a solid rubber ball slightly larger than a tennis ball. It allowed me to place equalized pressure and gave friction so i just twisted my palm. Thank you for this tip!
The Tennis Ball was a GREAT suggestion, and I Just want to add - I lubed the gasket with Pool & Spa Lube, get at any Pool store or home improvement and had some difficulty pressing down on Tennis ball with hands so used about a 2 foot section of a 2x4 and wow pushing down with the added pressure of the 2x4 on the Tennis ball and turning it worked immediately! Thanks Again!
THIS WORKS!!!! I have a banjo counter top above my toilet with 6" clearance, could not get leverage.... was about to pull the toilet when I found this trick. Evoo etc nothing worked cuz I had no leverage I used my Rottweilers 3.5" dia. rubber ball put a little evoo on the seal that goes next to the porcelain and it went in with ease, Thanks Bill!!!! Saved me a lot of time!!!
As can be confirmed by all the difficulty with this part expressed in these posts, the design of this flush valve is sadly lacking in anything but frustration. Out of the box, it is almost impossible to install. After more than a few four letter words, I did succeed and would like to share my tips. Some form of lubrication of all surfaces of the gasket and between it and the plastic valve and hole in the toilet really helps. I used soap, but before also soaked the gasket in hot water for about five minutes to soften it. Finally, I used a 1” X 2” wood block with one end tapered to fit inside the hole of the valve to apply sufficient pressure while turning it at the same time. Good luck to all.
These flush valve designs from Kohler are completely junk imo I have changed out so many of them its crazy...your better off keeping your old 4 gallon flush unit instead of changing flush valves out every year or two if you have town water there is really no reason to be conserving or rationing water and to only have problems with these conservative fixtures a short time later

I watched 14 other videos and nobody had this trick. The lubricant and pressure helped me tremendously. Excellent video for the novice plumber. 🎉
Duuuude! I used my kid’s semi hard baseball! It freaking worked. You are the man!!!
Thank you for the ball hack, i used a pickleball. Worked perfect.
DUDE! You just saved me a call to the plumber! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this hack! It made all of the difference in the world!

And I thought I was the only one with this idea since I didn’t see a tennis ball around. 💪🏽🙌🏽
Could not have done this replacement without this tip. Thank you so much!!
Awesome!
Could not have done this without the use of a ball. Watched this prior to install, you saved me a lot of time. Thanks!

Awesome. Glad you found it before pulling the toilet. I was on the couch contemplating buying a new toilet when I thought of it. And poof right in.
When I first watched this, I said, "Yeah, right, but it worked! Thanks for the tip.
This worked! Used a ball for roller hockey.
This totally worked! I tried wrangling this thing for 30 mins before finding your video. Thanks!
WOW - Great advice. After wrestling with this seal I finally found your video. Thank You.!!
Glad you found it helpful

The ball was the answer. Two day project solved in minutes!!!!
Tonight I used a tennis ball and olive oil. Thank you ❤
But did you eat the tomato afterwards?
Sliced it with a mozzarella… some very good extra virgin olive oil some fresh basil salt and pepper. Delish!!
It looked like you were using a tomato and NOT a ball in your demo 😅
I’m Italian… what can I say 😂
i like the part when you put the tank-to-bowl seal on your kitchen counter
I used a hammer with towel and press and turn very hard never will buy anything like that
Ball fell through the hole 😂
I think there is a video on that. LOL
