I’m blown away by the honesty of your insight. It was what I needed today as I sit down, new year having already begun, to set up my bullet journal. I had been putting it off because I didn’t accomplish all I wanted to last year…but by gosh I learned some valuable lessons. And that learning is so much more important to me than if I had ticked off every checkbox and not grown as a human. Thank you for your authenticity and willingness to share with the Bujo community. Peace and healing.

Ryder, I watched this video (while at work) and cried. Everything you mentioned is what 2023 was for me. I would worked up to 70 hours a week just so I can completed projects and meet deadlines. I did this for 8 months straight. In 2023, I had knee surgery. while healing I fell and fractured my ankle and wrist and damaged the surgery knee. I was also in a fender bender. At first I did not relate the two together. I also lived on 2-3 hours sleep per night. I did not care about my health or my appearance - just as long as I completed my work.
I finally had to say enough is enough. there are 3 people now doing what I used to do alone. I moved into a different department. I cut my hours down to to 40-50 hours.
I am rambling. I am so ready to make 2024 better...healthier.... I loved what you said "who do you want to be in the next year!". Thank you

Hi Ryder! So sorry you injured your arm, but grateful you shared this lesson. For what it's worth, the hat (and beard!) looks good on you. The funny thing is that often when we don't make time for our health, it ultimately forces us to. Always a lesson worth remembering as I work through some of my own health challenges. I hope you heal well! I know you'll knock out this next milestone whether it comes "on time" or at the best time. Happy Holidays, and see you in 2024!

Healing & taking care of yourself is more important. We can wait for the project as long as it takes. It may take longer than expected but when the project is done you should be able to be proud of it instead of being resentful.
Thinking about who I want to be in the next year fits since a part of my current life will end and I'm not certain what happens afterwards.

I badly dislocated my elbow in June due to a stupid accident of rushing and not being mindful. I spent 12 weeks in a cast and this so resonated with me. It was terribly difficult to admit that I couldn't just go back to work like before. I couldn't even wash my own hair. It was a lesson in being vulnerable and a lesson in taking care of me. I suffered significant nerve damage. I couldn't write. Shortly after the injury I was awarded the Basics and Beyond Scholarship. I watched and listened and took in your good advice. 7 months later, the road to recovery ahead of me is still long, but I'm getting there and improving. I started the new year a more resilient person unsure of if I will gain back full function but knowing that I can be the me I want to be. Wishing you speedy healing.

Feeling resentful toward your achievements is the worst. I am right there, in the middle of burnout.
Burnout kills my drive, my creativity, which is my life force. So it's dangerous.
Protect your golden goose at all cost. Don't sell it!
Because my work is not fun anymore, I won't be able to go on with it like before.
Or at least it's going to take me a very long time to find the spark again.

I hope you get better and strong in your well-being.
I’ve been in a miserable state too in a period of 2 years straight with sleep deprivation and not being an employee or studying something which led me to anxiety problems and sleep problems. And I became angrier and selfish, telling people about my sleep problem instead of being compassive with them. I’m becoming selfish because I cannot even take care of myself, I feel like I’m dying but too slow by skipping sleep frequently because of fear of trying to rest and then failing to not fall asleep. And that’s how I lost clarity with the years I have been living, for example, I cannot remember how 2021 and 2022 were, like those quarantine memories were fog and worthless because since Covid ruined our freedom and safety, I have become that “and-then-I’ll-be-happy” type of person. Believing if someday quarantine and Covid plus other viruses end, THEN I’ll be happy.

I think it’s a learned human condition, to push through for our work or study to succeed in a goal… while ignoring our health and fitness… until we can no longer do so. This is when we learn the hard way, that our health and fitness needs to be re-aligned to be part of a three-pronged approach: health, family, work or study goals. Not “I’ll do it when I get a chance because I’m too busy” which was my approach up until 12 months ago when I was forced to make changes. Grudgingly. But turned out to be the best thing going forward. It’ll be ready when it’s meant to, Ryder. We’ll be here😊

  • @Marialla.
    @Marialla. 5 місяців тому +1

It's a nice perspective. Rather than just wanting to weigh 20 pounds lighter, I could work towards being someone who is mindful of my eating, and makes room for a salad every day, and heads into the gym a few times every week. Because I want to be healthier, not just smaller. I want to be resilient when I backslide into old habits too. I want to be able to curve the behaviors away from the mindlessness that got me fat, and gently retrain my habits to put more attention on better (not perfect) behaviors.
I wouldn't berate a friend who got distracted from a goal, or call them a loser, or undisciplined. I'd just take their arm and say let's go this way now and forget about that other stuff. It doesn't matter in the long run. Just doing what you can is enough. Doing a tiny bit better than before, NOW, is much better than waiting for 100% perfection someday. Tiny bits of better "now" can add up to a lot of changes eventually.

Before you were born, your higher self was journaling of what it wanted to experience through you as an incarnated, less conscious part of itself. It is the bullet journal of your life with all its ups and downs. Within the polarity in which we live, we need negative experiences to know what positive ones are. A concept only exists because it has an opposite.
There is no wrong time in this journal of life and there is no goal that is not achieved. You are always on time and you are where you are supposed to be at all times. It's not about the goals that we (as incarnated humans) set for ourselves, but rather the goals that our higher self has set for itself because it can only experience through us what something feels like in 3D. In the higher stages of consciousness it has no material body and no emotions. Everything that happens happens for you - never against you. Nothing is coincidence in this universe, no matter how chaotic life sometimes seems... everything follows a higher order.
Added to this is the fact that there is nothing but energy/consciousness. Your thoughts and feelings are also measurable energy. We know from physics lessons that energy is never lost, but converted from one state to another. If we don't deal with certain emotions, the energy looks for an outlet at the body level. Energy wants to flow, which it cannot if we suppress it. This is how illnesses arise. Without exception, everything outside of your consciousness is a reflection of your way of thinking. If we listen to what our body is telling us and look at our thoughts, feelings and old belief patterns based on social conditioning, illnesses can be healed (if that is how it is meant to be according to the planned bullet journal of life our soul made).
Just speaking from 23 years of studying of why life is the way it is.
Merry Christmas, all the best for 2024 and beyond and get well soon. 🌻

I have just had surgery on my right foot and will be needing surgery on my left foot also. I had underestimated the pain and the lack of mobility as well as the length of all that. Because of the holiday season, the follow-up appointments have had to be pushed back. I have had to learn how to crawl down the three flights of stairs to get to the car and, yes, crawl down the front walk to reach the street. It has been humbling. I am not able to move efficiently around the house or carry things in my hands. I lament the untidiness of our place. My partner has been a great help with many of the chores and my care for which I am grateful. I realize that my way of keeping the house neat is not the only way. I want to be a less controlling person in the new year as well as allow myself to be less efficient. This will be difficult for me.

Alles Liebe.

Wow, Ryder! You seemed to speak directly to me here. I was needing to hear your advice. I noticed that as of this morning, early on12-31-23, this was recently posted about a week ago, so please take care of yourself. Resourcing ourselves and prioritizing our self-care is so important because it affects the quality of our lives, yet we somehow keep needing to relearn this. I believe I have developed a computer addiction, and it is really tough to get that under control. It is insidious because it ruins the quality of my life, since I loose sleep. Everyone, if you are having troubles that are compromising the quality of your life, see if you can offer yourself compassion. Say to yourself, "I hear how hard this is. I am here with you." We do have choices, as Ryder says. We need to bring our awareness to how we are feeling, and what we are needing, and what we are doing, so we can choose wisely. We may need help doing this, and that's okay. Generally, if we are doing something we don't like ourselves to be doing, whatever it is, there is something we are needing that we are not getting. What is it, and how could we get what we need in a way that is better for us? When we don't know for sure what we are needing, it can help to notice what we are feeling. If we feel bad, that is generally a sign that we are not getting something we need. If we feel good, that is generally a sign that we are getting something we need. Usually at any time we are getting something we need, for instance, right now we are very likely breathing. Our needs to breathe are being met without our having to do anything. Isn't that amazing?! If we can focus on what is now meeting our needs, that can help ground us and resource us, and gradually that can help us.

As always, I am clapping and cheering for your self awareness and insights. These mortal bodies get hurt/damaged. I'm a PT and work with patients all day, but when I broke a bone after a slip and fall on ice last winter- I became the patient and all my busy-ness came to a screeching halt. The gifts were not initially recognized, but with the daily struggle I became more aware of the frustration and hardship of my patients when they came to me with their injury- it really levelled up my empathy and compassion. I love your insights in the intersection between the practice of bullet journaling and life. It can get messy- especially for us ADHDers. I initially was introduced to your method by InFlow - an app for ADHDers in December 2023. I have been a better version of myself using your bullet journal, following your method, and watching your content. May your journey back to good health and function be swift & strong! Happy 2024 Ryder!

Thank you for your insight Ryder❤. My bullet journal has always been about what is done or what needs to be done, and ways to cope on both sides of this lens. I never really understood the parallelism between the BuJo and habit journalling but i think this video shines a huge torch on how important it is to build ourselves, and not just take mould as per our how our surroundings shape us. Great stuff to start a new year!

This is such an important and powerful message: we can only be who we want to be when we remain faithful to our own needs and boundaries. I thank you for sharing this moment of re-evaluation and reflection with us. I'm excited for the project that's been put off. And I can wait for it, for when it's healthy and helpful for you to lead it.
It's hard to overstate how powerful the Bullet Journal Method, and your thoughtful and insightful presentation of the evolution of the mindfulness built into the method, have been in my life. I am excited for the next chapter.

    Dear Ryder,
I am sincerely sorry to hear about your medical condition, all the more than I am a MD.
I am not the one to give you advices after everything you gave to the whole BJ community, as I have shamelessly been more of a "taker" from your videos.
After going through a severe burnout due to my medical activity, I will still allow to give you my perspective. Please, take time for yourself now. I know it sounds easy and silly to write as you know all that, but you have, in front of you, the best tool to heal yourself: the tool you designed.
Your tool was the one that saved me from helping during that time I was totally unable to care for my patients. It became my precious companion (along with my husband and kid, who didn't really know what to do to help). No color, no sticker, no decoration. Just the black BJ you designed, a black pen and ... my dark frame of mind... I used it as a therapeutic way to reconnect to myself, to write down what was going through my mind when I wanted or / and needed to. No key, no future log, no nothing except the paper, its touch, its smell, my pen, myself and learning some meditation and breathing techniques.
You gave A LOT for others, at the detriment of your own health, it's time for you to slow down, be proud of your accomplishments and look at a brighter future. No one will ever take away from you what you authentically and generously did for us, no one will judge you. Time and your close ones will be your most precious allies, believe me.
Keep your arms up, think only of yourself without any guilt, try to enjoy life simple pleasures and don't hesitate to reach out for help.
I can only wish you a better health for 2024.
    Sincerely from France.

Please take care of yourself, which should be our highest priority. As an AuDHD I would become so hyper focused on my goal I would forget about my mental health and sleep. So the one thing I learned from my study support counselor, is also to listen to my body, get out and walk, sleep and most of all to pace myself.

This message really hits home based on who I am and the struggles I have been feeling. They have taken a toll on me lately and I have had to step back, away from some roles. I love that you remind us of “who we want to be”. Great mindset.
I send you strong health vibes, as I have been going through again health journey myself in the last two years. It is hard, so hard to slow down and face the reality that does not match our vision for ourselves. There’s a lot of learning in that. You share that very well. Thanks for all you and your team do/ ARE. 😊

You're disappointment in yourself is palpable & my heart goes out to you 💔
For anyone in this situation, in case you need to hear it; just remember that one of the keystones of self care is self forgiveness for very human mistakes. Look for the small moments of sillyness & joy you might not have had if this injury hadn't slowed you down.
Just the same, I hope this does heal quickly; being in pain sucks 😖
