4:08 that's the Viaduct, when The Snowshoe Rails To Trails started You use to be able to ride your ATVs and Side By Sides across the Viaduct they closed it due to rumors of people trying to jump off of it. you can actually get to the other side of the Viaduct by crossing the Red Moshannon the shallow creek under the I-80 Bridges 3:36 and once you're on the trails you ride into Peale which is on the other side of The Viaduct if you keep driving straight ahead You'll be able to drive through the Peale Tunnel
That high train trestle bridge used to be the way across the river. It was shut down which forced people to cross through the river. Not sure if that's legal or not. Was told it was private property and dirt and trees had been pushed up to block the path. Need to find out why the connector to the Bloody Skillet is closed and when and if it will be reopened. If the bridge crossing and the Bloody Skillet connector are passable this becomes an awesome trail. Let's work to get those two things changed so we can really use the trail.
The Bloody Skillet is a DCNR ATV Park and their opening times are posted on their website. Generally, at Memorial Day they are open and Hunting seasons close them. The Bridge was closed by RJ Corman RR due to liabillity. A jerk from Ohio was charging college students to bungee jump illegally which got the attention of the RR forcing them to close it to us(SSRT). You can cross the Red Mo when it is low, many do often - just keep to the crossing off of the property privately owned. The western side leads you to Black Bear Trailhead.
Yes, I hope to be back out when we have our signs and sponsorship paperwork processed. Hope to explore the missing area we couldn't get to! yes, I can imagine the trestle being a liability.
@@TheBeatenTrail So glad to have you explore the SSRT! I wish you could have let us know of you interest and coming, we would have loved to go along and answer any questions you had about our Trail and the connections to Philipsburg and the Bloody Skillet. We are continueing to try to make more connections in both directions and are having a map developed by Centre Publications of legal riding areas and access points. Trilby Mayes President SSRTA
Thank you! We hope to be back out again to see all there is to see, along with some businesses. Please feel free to link the video if required, possibly we can interview you or some of the board, planners for a future video. Let us know!
They do have about a dozen businesses that you can pick up passes I recommend giving the cramer family mountain Inn in snowshoe a call they probably have the best hours out of most of them but yes you just have to make sure that you have insurance and registration paperwork available. You can’t just show a plate. You need the actual paperwork.
Thank you we didn’t get to see 100% of the location in Trails but hope to get back out. Wanted to put together an overview summary of the basics glad you liked it.
Have you been to SSRT? How did you like it?

You didn't film the Peale Tunnel? It's the best feature of the entire area that you covered
We will be back for a follow-up with businesses and when we get our signs up. Stay tuned!

Coming from out of town - can you get a permit to ride same day from local businesses or must you do mail-in application?

Years ago we use to ride over the trestle bridge with only a side rail on one side. A bit scary.
I can only imagine....looks sturdy, but its a LONG way down.
Hmm I was just told about this trail system but it doesn’t really seem like anything more than a back yard tour.
Its a good day ride rail beds and into town river crossing. There is more than i filmed. For $20 it cant be beat. 30-40
Miles
great video !

Nice
Thanks
Yeah. SSRT is nice but rather boring. As you saw, the trail ends at the old bridge. The best kept secret is Newmans Sandwich Shop. Great food!
PA is FINALLY getting with the program. Surrounding states have their acts together for ATVs
Except NY
