    None of the producers or directors of this film were Somali. I’m just saying! It took someone else to identify our mistakes. That says a lot about us. There’s a clear distinction between tribe and tribalism. I like the message but the audience aren’t listening and the messenger isn’t from one of us.

      For me, essentially comes down to social/economical/cultural advantage V.S disadvantage. I fervently believe the disadvantage outweighs the advantage/benefit it brings to the table. Find it VERY DIFFICULT to swallow the idea that a cultural practice that disunite and hinders its own people the ability to grow and prosper can, in any form or sharp, be attributed with a solitary positive force.

      @DailySunnah-1 4 роки тому +5

      But we can't ignore the fact that most of the bigger issues - especially those that attract our attention and that of the media - are for the most part the negative consequences of tribalism. Look at the war. Look at some social issues like: marriage proposals been declined due to tribe a person(not often but a lot especially between clans that have had feuds). Do we, as a somali, even practice fairness? even the most just amongst us is unconsciously affected by tribalism. From my experience, as someone who grew up in both Somalia and Kenya, I can say I wouldn't blame any parent if they talked to their kids about the bad side of tribalism. What is important at this stage is to understand each other's point of view and admit that we have had problems with how we use tribe and focus on how we should resolve the matter for the betterment of ourselves and that of the future of Somalis in the world. We have lagged behind the rest of the world not because we lack the skills or knowledge, but because we can't work together on what benefits us all.

      kulamada Tv don’t bring religion to justify this. I just heard about a girl who was gang raped in Somalia and killed after, and the killers getting out because they were from a bigger clan. Is that what Allah wanted? Have some heart!! And what about the jareer dude and the midgane, Somalis will never achieve anything until there’s equality. I’m not saying that you need to reject ur ancestor but you need to think about the youth and futur of the country. Unity..always. Love from djibouti 🇩🇯

    Many nations went through civil war but it was more of a 1 or 2 clans fighting where as back home it was a royal rumble like they have in wrestling so everyone fought everyone and every tribe till today says my tribe didn’t do anything wrong so their is no forgiveness. Only the billionaires who control the money back home are benefiting from the tribalism we have our Asda and constant electricity in this country and all the other perks so it’s easy for us to scream our tribe but back home the amount of poverty and lack of education etc is crazy we are seen as barbaric by most of the world, we need to stop focusing on our differences and focus on our common goals, our neighbouring countries have more differences and languages then we do but they get along. May Allah bless this platform for at least trying to speak up.

Also, failing in school parents perhaps not understanding how quick they need to react when their kids fail a few tests. In sha Allah we need for us to understand the western issue facing us not triblism no one is putting you down because of your tribe. No we are not because of tribes, we are being given excuses. Somali’s are in the west because of greed and a corrupted ex leader. If tribes were the reason why did Somali’s come together in the past to form modern day Somalia there is more to the conflict wake up

    ATM miserably failed the content and by producing this video. First of all a ''tribe'' is not relevant terminology because Somalis are one ''tribe'' but they consist of the many ''CLANs'' trees from the Somali tribe. Yes, we had a ''CLAN'' issue in the past but it is fading away surely but slowly especially in diaspora. The title of the video does not correlate to the content ''Growing up as a Somali in the UK'' should have been more about experiences of young Somalis with multicultural Britain, speaking two languages, challenges of relating their parents, faith and culture. Reflection of being ethnically Somali, Muslim and British born all at the same time. These are more interesting contents.

      Fair point, we understand where you’re coming from. Yes, Somalis are one tribe that divided into clans and sub-clans. However, as an organisation, we're not only focused on Somalis but other non-Somali communities across the continent who share with us the challenges of tribalism. Hope this clarifies to your concerns. Thanks for your thoughtful engagement!

    I'm half Somali half Sweedish but I look Morrocan and very pale with very soft curly hair so I don't look like a white person but I don't look mixed either. I have the issue of older and younger Somali people not seeing me as Somali. It is all I know it is the culture I'm raised in and the language I speak at home. At 9/10 years old I was a rare mix and have never met a half Somali in London before and neither had other people. But as I grew and now I'm 15 it is still seen as a rare mix however I see many younger children like me being half Somali and not looking like it. We seem to appear more Arab looking. I worry that we are not as accepted as being black and mixed-raced like other mixed-raced people are. I understand you are ATM but could you please discuss this as I think the more half Somali children are being born the more important it is they become a part of the Somali community and not made to feel like they stand apart from who they are.

    The same groups that want to eradicate tribalism or knowledge of your individual tribes are the same one's that are the most tribal. Amongst people from Somaliland it's not seen as a negative thing to know your tribe which is apart of your identity. I would never think I am better than anyone based on my tribe, but I can appreciate my lineage and identity. Allah ( subhana wa ta'ala) has stated in the holy qur'an that he made nation's and tribes to get to know each other. Tribes can be a blessing not a curse depending on the individuals understanding.
