His insurance WILL go after the dog owners to get back what they paid out and his deductible if he had to pay it. People seem to forget dogs ARE property. I actually had an attorney argue with me that a person cannot be responsible for their unleashed dog causing and accident, but they absolutely can. If the owners don't have renters or homeowners then they will garnish their wages. It would be a comp claim so hopefully his deductible wasn't too high.

Actually the responsibility falls on the neighbors whose dogs were loose. They are the ones who he needs to seek damages from. The postal worker is well in his right to protect himself anyway possible.

The fact this got 400 plus likes is ridiculous and is why we are losing rights right and left. He has the right to protect himself but not the right to trespass and damage someone elses property to do so and not pay for the damages. I'm a courier for FedEx and I can't express how scary it is when you encounter a dog attack. I think I speak for all couriers out there when I say, we only ask for 3 things... 1) Keep your dog inside your home or on a leash if you're expecting a package. 2) Please put numbers on your house so we can identify your home 3) If there snow, please shove a path for your local delivery driver. These make a difference in either receiving your package or not.

it was crazy dog attack i had last year when i deliver package to a complete new route they given me. when i park close to costumer's house. i was so confident to get off my van coz i didn't see no dogs or any barking dog at all. so when i was close to the porch that dog suddenly jump off in front of me came from no where or he maybe hide somewhere in the boxes coz that house was like a hoarder pep house. what i did i smack his package on his dog's face. he chase me and his teeth just few inches to my foot. i was shaking like hell. 😂😂😂 i call my dispatch to mark the package voz i wasn't able to scan it first 😅. now i got the route all the time, and i try to make friends to my costumer's dog. they now become friendly on me since we see each other most of my working days 😂😂😂😅

As someone who's worked in body shop and paint repairs I can tell you that he did not need the entire part of the truck painted even with custom paint. All the shop has to do was color match and fis the scratches they probably just milked him for me since he doesn't know about this sort of thing. Also I think the neighbors who has his dogs loose should be the one covering the damages
Ummm, anyone that works in the collision repair industry can tell you that he DID NOT need his entire left side repainted from the front to back. Either that shop milked him or the dude had other damages and wanted to milk the post office for as much as he could get. I'm surprised the insurance company paid for that entire ridiculous bill. I'm sure they'll get their money back ten fold when it's time to renew his policy and raise his premium through the roof. 🤭
Actually yes. Fixing the scratches by repainting the cover would cause a mismatched paint and still be very costly. Painting the whole thing is about the same and within the owners right to claim. My ex went through that when someone hit his car door. The door vs the whole car was the same but the insurance company didn't think that was right. In the end they did the whole car in order to restore it as it was before the hit.

I think it’s due to the truck owner trying to get the USPS to pay for it. I’m assuming the mailman didn’t try and make a big deal out of the dogs that chased him, thus they used whatever story they could.
I do agree with USPS on this one. Whoever owns those pitbulls should be responsible for the damages but if they were feral, it defaults on them. Therefore, the burden of proving pitbull ownership should be on USPS.

The dogs’ owners should be 100% responsible. If they were strays, the post office should be happy to pay because had the truck not been there, the employee would’ve likely been mauled AND the post office would’ve had to dish out monetary compensation for their employee being injured on the job.

This is an easy one. The owner of the dogs should be paying for any damages, caused by a person trying to escape their dogs, which were not secured on a leash. They would of been paying his hospital bills or getting sued if he was attacked, so the damages are the least they should pay.

@Tiny Princess Even service dogs are required to be leashed unless performing a task the leash would interfere with, or if the handler's disability renders a leash unusable. My (leashed) service dog and I were attacked by an unleashed dog. I would worry having him untethered even for a task. Other dogs can come out of nowhere and I want mine close so I can try to protect him. It sucks, as it would help if he could get things for me from a distance. However, my faith in owners of aggressive dogs is about zero.

4,400 for a full paint job is relatively cheap. The prep work for painting one panel alone is a lot of work. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what it cost
Exactly, he should have given insurance company estimates for the damages and the insurance company will handle the claim (which they did in the end). It was odd to try to sue the Post Office. The dog's owner, his neighbor should be responsible for damages...but they don't even mention if anyone reported the dog attack at the time. But they have video proof of the attack on a public street and the truck owner's property.

I want to see where repainting of the cover of a truck bed cost over $4400 🤨. He got the whole truck repainted not just the back cover which was the only part damaged. But the post office isn't responsible, the dog owner is responsible for the repairs.
Well in order for that style custom paint to match they had to respray the entire drivers side and the entire tonneau cover. Yes, the USPS is responsible for damage caused by their employee. They are the ones that should be going after the neighbor for repayment.

The man didn’t just land on and only damage the bed cover, he and what he was carrying came in contact with other body panels. So it order to make that style of paint job to match and actually look right, they would need to repaint the entire side and the bed cover.

I'd have never gone after the postal worker to begin with. He did what any person would have done in that situation. I'd have sued the owners for damages. We have a leash ordinance in our town. If they r outside they r to be on a lead or fenced in yard. I informed my neighbors that if their dogs attack mine while he's outside i will press charges on them as we'll as the town for not enforcing the law. They all know i will so far no issues have come up. If it were my postal worker (after making sure he was ok) I'd have called the cops and showed them the video. With the worker and the video there was plenty of evidence to go for damages against the neighbors. I'd also inform the city they will be on the lawsuit as well for damages bc they aren't doing their jobs either.

A customer on my route currently left his door open during regular delivery time. His dog charged after the last Carrier, he jumped on the guys vehicle for safety. This customer not only came after the USPS for damages, but also berated the Carrier for the damage and denial of the claim, and also has complained about it to me. He doesn't get how completely faulted he is, at all!

If someone jumped on my car to avoid being attacked by an animal I’d show them the utmost sympathy. I know he incurred damages but if the person who jumped on it shows compassion by helping to pay, then cool. The way this was handled just shows that no one in this situation is using logic or compassion themselves.
So happy he is OK. My mother has been working for the post office for over 30 years and I can tell you this, they are lowest of the low and absolutely not about there employees. My mother is in need of a full knee replacement and cannot get in until sept. She has been dealing with severe pain for a year now. Infortunately she still has to work. Her job has been giving her all typea of shit because she is on light duty and cannot do a lot of the things she used too. I wish I could do more for my parents and do my best. I can just say, the post office as a whole, is absolute shit when it comes down to helping its employees and taking care of them.

The dogs didn't jump on the truck, the mailman did. The truck owners only course of action would be to have the post offices insurance pay for the damages and then said insurance company go after the dog owners for the bill... which is probably what eventually happened. The story twists peoples brains into thinking that the truck owner is the problem here when in reality he was a victim also.
as an insurance producer, if you have full coverage, this type of damage is covered by your comprehensive coverage, as this would be actually considered vandalism. your insurance company should pay this, no problem. it's up to the insurance company to then sue who ever they want to get their money back.

This happened to my husband everyday he worked at the postal office. He said he had to jump on cars from dog attacks. We were in the hood so stray dogs were always everywhere. I had to call the dog pound everyday!

There just needs to be more done either the post office or law enforcement, for awarness, that dogs shouldn't not be out roaming off leash during delivery hours. There should be stricter laws on this. There needs to be more safety for mail carriers and carriers over all! This girl at my office had her ear chewed off, chunks of her arm and thigh gone. I had one lady tell me her dog is sweet after biting one of my co-workers. SMH I'm glad he made it. Stay prayed up carriers!

@@chrisulmer694 yea but dogs get off the leash all the time and although it's the owners who needs to make sure the leash is strong enough to hold the dog, alot of dog owners don't think like this. I use to deliver the mail to a mounded mailbox I had 2 feet from where the box and the dog because he had a long leash. But he broke the leash and they just tied the two pieces back together instead of going to get a new one or a metal one. I've seen so many dogs get out someway and they are miles away from home smh

That’s because in any jurisdiction, if their dog attacks someone, they will get charged criminally for it. I saw a judge Judy case where the dog owner was succefully sued after a lady jumped on someone's car to escape from a pitbull.
His insurance WILL go after the dog owners to get back what they paid out and his deductible if he had to pay it. People seem to forget dogs ARE property. I actually had an attorney argue with me that a person cannot be responsible for their unleashed dog causing and accident, but they absolutely can. If the owners don't have renters or homeowners then they will garnish their wages. It would be a comp claim so hopefully his deductible wasn't too high.

Actually the responsibility falls on the neighbors whose dogs were loose. They are the ones who he needs to seek damages from. The postal worker is well in his right to protect himself anyway possible.

I'm a courier for FedEx and I can't express how scary it is when you encounter a dog attack. I think I speak for all couriers out there when I say, we only ask for 3 things... 1) Keep your dog inside your home or on a leash if you're expecting a package. 2) Please put numbers on your house so we can identify your home 3) If there snow, please shove a path for your local delivery driver. These make a difference in either receiving your package or not.
Thanks for bringing us all what we ordered, safely. That job seems like it would suck...not because of the actual duties, but for having to put up with constant jackassery from the people you encounter.

it was crazy dog attack i had last year when i deliver package to a complete new route they given me. when i park close to costumer's house. i was so confident to get off my van coz i didn't see no dogs or any barking dog at all. so when i was close to the porch that dog suddenly jump off in front of me came from no where or he maybe hide somewhere in the boxes coz that house was like a hoarder pep house. what i did i smack his package on his dog's face. he chase me and his teeth just few inches to my foot. i was shaking like hell. 😂😂😂 i call my dispatch to mark the package voz i wasn't able to scan it first 😅. now i got the route all the time, and i try to make friends to my costumer's dog. they now become friendly on me since we see each other most of my working days 😂😂😂😅

As someone who's worked in body shop and paint repairs I can tell you that he did not need the entire part of the truck painted even with custom paint. All the shop has to do was color match and fis the scratches they probably just milked him for me since he doesn't know about this sort of thing. Also I think the neighbors who has his dogs loose should be the one covering the damages
Ummm, anyone that works in the collision repair industry can tell you that he DID NOT need his entire left side repainted from the front to back. Either that shop milked him or the dude had other damages and wanted to milk the post office for as much as he could get. I'm surprised the insurance company paid for that entire ridiculous bill. I'm sure they'll get their money back ten fold when it's time to renew his policy and raise his premium through the roof. 🤭

Actually yes. Fixing the scratches by repainting the cover would cause a mismatched paint and still be very costly. Painting the whole thing is about the same and within the owners right to claim. My ex went through that when someone hit his car door. The door vs the whole car was the same but the insurance company didn't think that was right. In the end they did the whole car in order to restore it as it was before the hit.

My (leashed) service dog and I were attacked by an unleashed dog. I would worry having him untethered even for a task. Other dogs can come out of nowhere and I want mine close so I can try to protect him. It sucks, as it would help if he could get things for me from a distance. However, my faith in owners of aggressive dogs is about zero.

4,400 for a full paint job is relatively cheap. The prep work for painting one panel alone is a lot of work. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what it cost

Exactly, he should have given insurance company estimates for the damages and the insurance company will handle the claim (which they did in the end). It was odd to try to sue the Post Office. The dog's owner, his neighbor should be responsible for damages...but they don't even mention if anyone reported the dog attack at the time. But they have video proof of the attack on a public street and the truck owner's property.

I want to see where repainting of the cover of a truck bed cost over $4400 🤨. He got the whole truck repainted not just the back cover which was the only part damaged.
But the post office isn't responsible, the dog owner is responsible for the repairs.
Well in order for that style custom paint to match they had to respray the entire drivers side and the entire tonneau cover. Yes, the USPS is responsible for damage caused by their employee. They are the ones that should be going after the neighbor for repayment.

The man didn’t just land on and only damage the bed cover, he and what he was carrying came in contact with other body panels. So it order to make that style of paint job to match and actually look right, they would need to repaint the entire side and the bed cover.
That was one smart, quick-thinking mailman!

It was a scam to get his truck fixed. He knew his neighbor didn't have that kind of money so he went after the postal service. The repair done on the truck( the employee never touched it there ). Those scratches were already there. He just saw a chance to get his truck painted.

I'd have never gone after the postal worker to begin with. He did what any person would have done in that situation. I'd have sued the owners for damages. We have a leash ordinance in our town. If they r outside they r to be on a lead or fenced in yard. I informed my neighbors that if their dogs attack mine while he's outside i will press charges on them as we'll as the town for not enforcing the law. They all know i will so far no issues have come up. If it were my postal worker (after making sure he was ok) I'd have called the cops and showed them the video. With the worker and the video there was plenty of evidence to go for damages against the neighbors. I'd also inform the city they will be on the lawsuit as well for damages bc they aren't doing their jobs either.
I feel for postal workers. They don’t even have a bathroom or a place to have lunch at like most of us do, so where would he have ran from those dogs? I feel for both the mailman and the truck owner. The dog owner should be responsible not the post office.

A customer on my route currently left his door open during regular delivery time. His dog charged after the last Carrier, he jumped on the guys vehicle for safety. This customer not only came after the USPS for damages, but also berated the Carrier for the damage and denial of the claim, and also has complained about it to me. He doesn't get how completely faulted he is, at all!

@@personanon2879 as was many other dog breeds, Great Dane, Rottweiler, huskies, and pretty much any big dog breed, yet almost every pit bull ive met has been friendly, the only 2 that were aggressive were in tight ass leashes, the owners kept yanking on them, and the dogs generally didn’t look ok, so you should go do more research than just statistics

If someone jumped on my car to avoid being attacked by an animal I’d show them the utmost sympathy. I know he incurred damages but if the person who jumped on it shows compassion by helping to pay, then cool. The way this was handled just shows that no one in this situation is using logic or compassion themselves.

So happy he is OK. My mother has been working for the post office for over 30 years and I can tell you this, they are lowest of the low and absolutely not about there employees. My mother is in need of a full knee replacement and cannot get in until sept. She has been dealing with severe pain for a year now. Infortunately she still has to work. Her job has been giving her all typea of shit because she is on light duty and cannot do a lot of the things she used too. I wish I could do more for my parents and do my best. I can just say, the post office as a whole, is absolute shit when it comes down to helping its employees and taking care of them.

The dogs didn't jump on the truck, the mailman did. The truck owners only course of action would be to have the post offices insurance pay for the damages and then said insurance company go after the dog owners for the bill... which is probably what eventually happened.

as an insurance producer, if you have full coverage, this type of damage is covered by your comprehensive coverage, as this would be actually considered vandalism. your insurance company should pay this, no problem. it's up to the insurance company to then sue who ever they want to get their money back.

There just needs to be more done either the post office or law enforcement, for awarness, that dogs shouldn't not be out roaming off leash during delivery hours. There should be stricter laws on this. There needs to be more safety for mail carriers and carriers over all! This girl at my office had her ear chewed off, chunks of her arm and thigh gone. I had one lady tell me her dog is sweet after biting one of my co-workers. SMH I'm glad he made it. Stay prayed up carriers!

@@chrisulmer694 yea but dogs get off the leash all the time and although it's the owners who needs to make sure the leash is strong enough to hold the dog, alot of dog owners don't think like this. I use to deliver the mail to a mounded mailbox I had 2 feet from where the box and the dog because he had a long leash. But he broke the leash and they just tied the two pieces back together instead of going to get a new one or a metal one. I've seen so many dogs get out someway and they are miles away from home smh

That’s because in any jurisdiction, if their dog attacks someone, they will get charged criminally for it. And if their dog kills someone, they can easily get charged for murder. 2) This is why I always carry the strongest pepper spray on the market, today.
