German Shepherds are one of the most popular breeds out there, and for good reason. Known for their loyalty and companionship, it's no wonder so many people bring them into their families. But what's it really like to own a German Shepherd?
One of the biggest misconceptions about German Shepherds is that they're naturally obedient and don't need much training. But that couldn't be further from the truth. German Shepherds are highly intelligent and need early socialization and training to become well-behaved adult dogs. Without it, they can become destructive, anxious, and even aggressive.
In reality, German Shepherds require a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. That means daily walks, runs, or playtime, as well as puzzle toys and training sessions to keep their minds engaged. And if you think you can just take them on a 10-minute walk and call it a day, think again - German Shepherds need at least an hour of exercise per day, and even more if they're puppies.
German Shepherds also have a strong herding instinct, which means they can be prone to chasing children, other pets, and even cars. So, if you have young kids or other pets in the household, you'll need to supervise interactions closely and teach your German Shepherd to respect their personal space.
One we have is somewhat like this but not completely. She's very super smart. Has a bit of seperation anxiety and loves to chase and be chased. She'll bark yes but not all the time.
It sounds like your German Shepherd has a unique personality! Separation anxiety can be challenging, but it's great that she's smart and loves to play. Keep working on her training, and she'll flourish!
This is completely stupid.
Stupid? I prefer to think of it as "unconventional wisdom"! But hey, to each their own! 😉
@@knight59 Most of the things mentioned aren't just a "GS-thing" but generally a "DOG-thing". It's the owner that needs to take responsibility to look properly after their animals, making sure they kept clean, groomed, safe with right schedule and quality time. Hence, video is not helping but it was only my opinion.
Have a nice day.
