  • Marshall Lyles, Jami Lynn Bula and Caleb Matthews discuss book six, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, chapters 25 - 30, in terms of grief and attachment.
The Harry Potter books are so beloved that the terminology and characters have become culturally embedded, allowing mental health clinicians to benefit from these works within their therapeutic contexts. Furthermore, much of the plot serves as engaging material for clients of all ages and abilities to connect to healing concepts from the empirically-robust model of attachment theory.
In October 2024, PCPSI are excited to welcome Marshall Lyles, Jami Lynn Bula and Caleb Matthews to Ireland for the first time with their workshop on Attachment Theory through the lens of the Harry Potter books
    pcpsi.ie/event...
This workshop will allow participants to experience intermediate level expressive techniques related to bibliotherapy, sandtray, art, and creative writing while accessing the attachment-rich metaphors from the magical world of Hogwarts. Participants will engage in collaborative dialogue in identifying attachment-related concepts contained within the Harry Potter books before being invited to explore experiential elements in response to identified attachment themes.
It is strongly recommended that participants have knowledge of the Harry Potter books. There is no known commercial support nor conflict of interest for this program and those involved in this workshop do not endorse the author’s personal beliefs. This intensive workshop will strive to match the tenets of attachment theory in a manner wholly inclusive of all people.
