I'm pretty certain that M855 is not an armor piercing round. Level 3 steel plates are not rated to stop M855 penetrator or any AP round. Level 3 aren't rated to stop any 5.56 rounds, although they will stop .308 in most cases. Level 3+ steel plates, which isn't an actual NIJ standard, will stop everything up to 30-06. Level 4 will stop everything up 30-06 armor piercing rounds. The weird thing is that level 3 will stop .308 but not 5.56 green tip M855 or M855A1

Green tip ammo was called cop killers or armor piercing rounds before they made level 4 plates
