  • Where boys became men, rivalries were established and life long friendships were formed and it's arguably Halo's most famous map. Blood Gulch is a great example of simple, fun, map design and I think there's a lot that modern game developers could learn from it.

Little Covenant and banished action mainly city based human military action? I'm curious to know how you'd feel about both and what idea you'd like more

I'll have a few questions, so feel free to pick as few or as many as you like:
      - If you were to take one element from _every_ fps halo game (with no repeats), what would you include?
      - What inspired your retro themed editing style, with the tape recorder SFX at the intro, the tv static and the waveform outro?
      - What is your favourite sandbox item to have ever been introduced into halo, whether that is weapons, grenades, vehicles, movement abilities, equipment, etc.?
      - what is Obama's last name?

For all h2a multiplayers faults, it's version of blood gulch is near perfect. It's wide and open with sightlines across the map and tons of room for vehicles, but still just enough cover to cross the map if your careful enough.

Wholeheartedly agree, all the added cover and stuff like the little bridges and bunker in the middle make on foot traversal and engagements way more fun, and the map is still wide open enough to support all the largest vehicles. Bloodline is way up there for me among my favourite BTB maps, it's fantastic.

The problem with Infinite's BTB maps, (I quit playing a year ago for context), is they have too much crap in them for bigger vehicles to have any breathing room.

Halo is a party game with shooter mechanics. It's a sandbox of chaos and fun. A story of bravery and hope. In short, it was a game about the best parts of the world. Blood Gulch embodies that perfectly. It was a map of freedom, where you could do whatever you wanted however you wanted, and even tell whatever stories you wanted with your friends who were just as ridiculous as you were. You're absolutely right; we need more maps like that.

As someone who has forged a lot of maps I can safely say that the “don’t try so hard” mentality is very important. If you try to place everything perfectly you’ll never complete the map and often times people won’t even have fun. Balance is sometimes “imbalance” as it encourages creative gameplay.

I disagree on the spawn timer thing. Surely, spending time to memorize the spawn location and time of a power weapon makes the skill ceiling higher, but it makes the game more sweaty. With 343’s approach of marking down the location with a timer, as well as an AI notification, players can spend more time to focus on playing the game instead of counting the time in their head. This also makes new players’ experience a lot more enjoyable and not get completely destroyed by existing players who know where to pick up the power weapons.

Came back to this video because I was having a discussion with a few friends. The discussion was what Halo is known for, and they argued that it's known for its slayer game modes. I argued that it's more known for its social/party/custom game modes. In Infinite, these game modes are Big team gamemodes, Fiesta, etc. And party game modes that date back to the OG trilogy like fat kid, cops and robbers, duck hunt etc.
One argued still for slayer, and the other was swat.
Just wanted see others experiences on what they think Halo is known for.

  • @ajladesigns5834
    @ajladesigns5834 Рік тому

So glad you’re here to broadcast proper Halo facts.
Big Team in Infinite is absolutely missing this magic, precisely for the reasons you outlined: vehicles and infantry do not interact.
Fragmentation is a perfect example - infantry squirrels away on the sidepaths until they inevitably get the op af dynamos and then dust anyone unfortunate enough to get in a Warthog.
This also contributes to vehicles feeling nearly pointless and weak in Infinite. Sometimes you just need people to be exposed and bowled over by a Hog with no chance at survival, and Infinite doesn’t really provide that.
I’ve been purposefully avoiding that in my current BTB forge project. It’s symmetrical (because I have a chronic map-making condition), but it *should* force infantry and vehicles into the same space, without giving infantry the full suite of murder tools.
Would love to playtest it once it’s done, whenever the heck that’ll be between my life changes and work 😂

Even an objectively bad map can be so much more fun if devs arent afraid to experiment with new or strange ideas. Its something i realized in playing TF2 a lot. My favorite maps aren't necessarily good maps, but ones where the gameplay experience has a lot of variation and potential for shocking or bizarre moments

Excellent video and congratulations on 10k. An amazing milestone, and one that I genuinely hope is soon overshadowed by 20k.
Q&A: if you could commission or magic into existence a Halo spinoff game, what would it be? A Halo Wars 3, an ODST 2, a Spartan Assault 3, or something unique?
I personally would have a survival-horror cooperative experience set deep within the bowels of a Flood Containment Facility deep within a Halo ring. You and up to three other friends would have to make your way to the surface from the bottommost level, contending against the horror that is the Flood. To make it stand out, I would also make it so that it has that patented 'custom games' customization, allowing for anything from a hardcore, limited health and ammo and visibility experience to a fun, laid back rampage to the surface with you in a Scorpion and your friends wielding Scarab Guns.
That, or a VR port/remaster for the MCC. Halo CE:A:A in VR, whoof, that'd be amazing. 343 Guilty Spark in VR, with 2023 graphics.

Also please consider doing a video about physics interactions in halo!
In infinite it seems to be the thing that's had the biggest hit. The gravity hammer sucks, vehicles feel magnitised to the floor, team mate on team mate collision sucks, there aren't any big physics props on maps that can act as cover and a weapon too, explosions seem to just damaged stuff not push it and so on.
I always felt the weapon and vehicle sandbox was at its best when it was interacting with physics in some way, like a big team battle on reach around a point that has big crates.
You'd use the big crates for cover and they would constantly be moving around as explosions from grenades bounce it around, cars smack against them and then, someone on the other team finds a gravity hammer and uses what was your cover to pancake you into the wall behind you with that same box.
Also driving a warthog charge at the enemy team was made more awesome as grenades and fuelrod cannon shots would be hitting near or at your vehicle bouncing it around causing you to barely keep control or flip around. Now it seems when that happens you just lose your tires and keep heading straight on.
It seems all of these physics interactions were stripped back to make room for competitive reliability, which fucking sucks.
I always thought physics shouldve been the focus for future halo titles and espsecially for competitive as I found competitive more intense and amazing to watch as players dynamically react to unpredictable situations, as I think that takes more skill. Not just learning the map to a extreme level and playing the same exact way to perfection in a predictable situation.

when infinite came out I played the campaign first as is my tradition and was less than impressed despite incredibly low expectations and multi didn't work so I shelved it and went back to the MCC
    But
You hit the nail on the head with the maps in infinite I was playing infinite btb the other night for the first time and everything was hollow and clostraphobic at the same time Vehicles were useless
Even as cover or obstacles to block paths and as a wheel man that hurts more than the splazer

I agree with your thoughts about modern Halo multiplayer maps. Halo 5 suffered from the sameness problem in its multiplayer maps, and playing multiplayer became very tedious for me after a few months. Thankfully Halo: Infinite doesn't have those kind of repeated maps such as Truth and Regret, but the similar layout and bland weapon placement definitely hinders its great gameplay. I would really like Forgers to have the option to place weapons and vehicles on the map. In addition to what you said about mixing weapon placement up, weapons and vehicles strewn across maps can provide visual storytelling for the maps they are in. Regarding a question for your ten thousand subscriber special, I'd like to know the meaning behind your UA-cam channel name. If that has already been asked, then another question I have is if you have a favorite genre of music or several genres that you love.

I really love your point about visual storytelling with the use of weapons and vehicles on maps. That was always one of my favourite things to do on the maps I made in Forge, especially Infection. Having a sniper rifle leaning against a lawn chair up in a tower, or a shotgun hidden behind a bar, a warthog that crashed through a building with debris around it.
I'll make sure to answer both of those questions in the Q&A! Thanks Reclaimer!

Damn for real, we need more better maps in Infinte imo as said. Forged really doing it.
But I wondered quite a long period ago, why weapon racks? Can we get back to just a BR casually chilling in a chair?
Like the racks so trivia to the maps and made thing so fomularic and random as time no sense of goal, empty at times. Hopefully they make that option in forge in the future.

I totally agree with you, my biggest issue with Infinite MP is the lack of fun, non competitive maps, "unbalanced" maps that offered situations and multiple point of interest other than the center corridor, well even back in the days "competitive" maps were fun as hell.
We got forge now to create or remake bangers from the past, but all of that is locked behind custom games and will depends what the game's host will want to play and not sure if i create a lobby people will hop in.
And how can we have a BTB with much more players but all the BTB maps feels so claustrophobic and so not vehicle combat friendly? I mean 343pls give us Sandtrap or Bloodgulch type maps.
It's sad to feel so restrained while having a really good and fun array of weapons and tools to play with.

My favorite maps were coag, turf, and lockout in h2. The Pitt in h3, and maps I don't remember the name of in h5 which seems stupid to list but h5 had 3 maps I really enjoyed and now I don't remember their names. H4 I didn't play much, and infinite my favorite is actually the the Pitt remake.

I just wish they would make the same, more, and then bigger...
    That's it.
    It worked then,
It has proven to work still now on forge...
    Make it bigger!
More players, more vehicles, more bases, maybe more teams. How about a 4 way version of blood gulch?! (My next forge project... Once I figure out how to use this bloody over complicated new forge lol)

I’d argue it’s one of halos most iconic maps ever made especially because it was the red vs blue map but I would never say it’s the best.
I think arguments could be made that forge world is the single best map ever made but because it’s a forge canvas i wouldn’t count it.
Personally I’d say halo 3 has the best maps overall, some of halo CE and 2s best map’s where remade or given spiritual remakes and the new additions where instant classics.
Play ctf on any infinite Btb maps and then slayer and it will feel the same, then play ctf on sand trap and then play slayer… or multi team because that use to be a thing and the map plays completely different just because of how the elephants play such a big part of ctf.
And just like this video said Valhalla is basically better blood gulch, and nobody can tell me it’s not!

I do really enjoy the gameplay of Halo Infinite but the maps doo feel operating theater levels of sterile. They need to add more 'fun' (a truly alien thing to most Infinite sweatlords I know) maps to the social playlists and leave them out of ranked.
